Tim, are you hiding the pictures of the tool you used for gutting and dressing?

That's a good point. I don't know. It was just a guess. But if it was solid antler at the time of the shot, maybe the vibration cracked the fiberglass arrow and the insert:notsure:

Thanks for reminding me. Also, Damascus steel, after cleaning you said something about oil on the blade?

My guess is that after the shaft broke off at whatever length, the remainder vibrated loose through the bucks traveling. I know that sometimes I’d have em loosen just walking around.

Same here. I always make sure to tighten them before knocking them if I wasn't in a rush to get a shot off.

Field points/broadheads can work themselves loose from a shot or even from just being in the quiver. Especially if they're being put on hand tight (no broadhead wrench). I imagine being stuck in a (used to be) live animal that the arrow/insert could eventually just work itself off. The whole thing is screwy...

It is. I saw him about a mile away. Seen he was decent 2, but figured he had to have more points. I glassed him at 200 yards and didn't see the broadhead. Snuck in to within 100 yards and shot. Didn't see the broad head until I got to him to check him out.

Definitely. Wash as soon as possible and wipe with a little oil before sheathing.
Obviously, if you are using this knife to also prep food, peeling an apple while you stalk, for example, use olive oil.

I haven't cleaned yet, just wiped off. Was meaning to ask before I washed because I remember you saying something like that.

How many times have you recovered the slug (or parts), or the pellets at the dinner table, lol?

Only bb's from upland birds. Never found anything in my deer meat. But I've found lots of bullets in deer. Usually just under the hide on the opposite side of the body. This was in the organs. Quartering away shot. Hit liver and lungs. Heart was still good so I kept that. It will be dinner Tuesday. Heart fajitas.

Roasted our green chilies this morning.
We ended up with 12lb of Lima beans. I’ll be vacuum sealing them shortly, after blanching D47868D4-4375-4E8C-A5C9-8FA5E87C7C78.jpg

We are a quiet group this week. How is everyone doing?

Got back from Vegas Tuesday night and now I’m just dragging to the weekend. The trip was a blast and much needed, but I think it will be the last time we visit that city. There is just nothing there I need to do/see. Nothing at all.

I made it to my weekend, hope yours arrives quickly. Lots of winterizing is on my list the next couple days.

I've been to Vegas once as a teenager, I probably have one more trip left in me to confirm I don't need to return. Lol

    How ya feeling Ray? @gosolo

Just got up and poured myself a cup of coffee. Slept 11 hours, feeling better than yesterday, so far.

I really appreciate all the well wishes, offers of help and concern from the community. Right now, my biggest concern is that my wife will get it. She has had cancer and is pretty weak anyway

Glad to hear that, not a problem man.

Yeah, keep her safe. You might have to spend most of your time in the shop, for her protection. :D

I only go there for conferences...during which I spend the week networking and then finding ways to get back out of the city.

    :fingerscrossed: for her.
I remember when I had it (unconfirmed - November 2019), I slept solid for three days. Felt like I'd been run over by a truck the whole time. Then woke up the fourth morning and felt fine.

Winterize everything is the agenda for this weekend. Tis the season…

If gambling next to drunks in clouds of cigarette and weed smoke is your definition of a good time, Vegas is for you. Otherwise it probably isn’t your scene.

I missed the earlier conversation. You down with Covid? Hope you are on the mend soon and your wife avoids it. Will keep you both in my prayers.

Nothing like a construction conference in Vegas! :DDid that once many years ago (World of Concrete). We lost a Superintendent for like 24 hours… We found him eventually but his phone ended up with the security department at one of the casinos. Never did get an explanation for what happened.

Busy week with work and home stuff. Going to try and get a bit more winterizing done and also watch my nephew run at a HS cross country meet on Saturday.

Does anyone not have “a story” from a Vegas conference? Maybe if you don’t have a story to share…the story is about you.

My buddy attends World of Concrete. He told me how someone from one of their suppliers didn’t show up at the booth for an entire show. That employee found themselves unemployed soon after.

My last conference, a vendor took us out to the shooting range. If you thought you could dump money fast at a strip club, go run the mini-gun!
