Y'all think you have any significant amount of nitrogen in your tires after paying for it?

Air is 78% nitrogen, so you start with that. Then, someone puts pure nitrogen in, which increases the nitrogen ratio. But, unless you pull a vacuum prior to adding pure nitrogen, you only get a mix.

And don't fall for "my dealer put nitrogen in" the car has air in it's tires from the factory. Does the factory use nitrogen? Did the dealer pull a vacuum on your tires before "adding nitrogen"

None of y'all have pure nitrogen in your tires

 

I still fail to see the advantage of nitrogen. What's it supposed to improve?

 

I think it's supposed to be less susceptible to changes in the ambient temperature. Around here, when we get our first cold snap of the fall season you will see everyone lined up at the air pumps at the gas station because their TPS alarms are going off

 

So I guess that 21% oxygen has a much higher susceptibility to temperature than the 78% nitrogen that's in air...

 

I worked in the semiconductor industry for over a decade. I'll clear some of this up for you.

The semiconductor industry manufacturers a wide spectrum of technologies. We still use equipment from the 70's to make simple, outdated semiconductors, regular diodes being a great example. There are so many fabs in the world, and a fab is built around the level of tech it will be manufacturing. It takes years to upgrade a fab, so they will focus on their core competencies, even if "outdated", the product still sells well.
It would crush the entire industry to shut down "outdated" fabs.
Vehicles using "outdated" chips is not an issue. Do you really care what chip is in the CANbus module in your driver's side door? You really think it should be a high end chip to roll your window up and down, lock the doors and adjust the mirror? How much tech do you think that requires? Higher end chips are more expensive, and forcing a manufacturer to use higher end chips, which would be severely under-utilized would increase costs.

It's extremely expensive and takes a long time to build high end fabs, so it's good that vehicles use lots of "outdated chips".

The current semiconductor crunch is affecting all tiers of manufacturing. And modern vehicles utilize all but the highest tiers of tech, the items like CPUs, graphics cards, video game systems that use chips that are more advanced are also having issues. So suggesting that the issue lies in vehicle architectures being "outdated" is incorrect.

I know you are just repeating something you've heard, because I read one or two of those stories too. Trust me, it's poor reporting. The industry relies on it's customers needs being spread out across many generations of tech to maintain capacity.

 

And yet, Costco has nitrogen refill services, because, those tires need topping up too

 

In high performance applications where a few psi make a difference between winning or losing. That's about it. I doubt any of us are racing our commuter trucks, so in practical application it doesn't really matter.

 

Yep, for Nascar or indy cars etc it might make a difference, but for the rest of is a couple pounds of pressure won't make any difference. I had a nail in my tire 2 weeks ago and was down to about 20 lbs of pressure in my tire. The only way I knew was because my tire light came on.

 

yes the hydrogen in air expands and retracts based on temp. Nitrogen basically does not. That’s why you air your tires up to 40# when it’s 80° and in the morning the pressure is 34 because it’s only 40 °. I look at this as a good thing. When the temp drops in winter I want my tire pressure lower anyway.

 

Damn. $7500? I think you got screwed twice. I’m sure that was to return it to completely stock, but at that point you have to cut your loses and find someone who can solder before paying almost $10k and losing you vacation days.

 

It’s an absolute waste of money. For high performance applications like F1, sure but you will see absolutely no benefit.

 

Yea, I know. I don’t use Nitrogen.

 

I was also being charged for nitrogen like $99. Asked the Saleman man to explain the procedure , did the vacuum the tire, did tire loose it’s shape when vacuumed, etc he took off the nitrogen fill up fee.

 

is that Pat Lobb Toyota of mckinney? They doing Add-ons now . That is crazy they never had all these addons , only tint and floor mats.

Talk to Patrick he should be able to order for you without the add-ons

 

That $249 "nitrogen upgrade" would buy you a pretty decent 12v compressor. Just saying.

It was that or cancel my factory warranty. Complete replacement of factory harnesses. I could have fixed it myself but of course wiring diagrams aren’t public.

 

I would have made the dealer who installed the gps tracking unit come and pick up the truck and return it back to stock. Did calling Toyota customer service get you anywhere?

 

Just saw an add for the new Lexus IS with 5.0 v8 472hp. So their cars get the v8 and the full size trucks get the v6. Crazy.

 

Wow. Mods, please delete this post along with the one above it or else you'll be cleaning up exploded heads all over this place once the "V8 or die" crowd sees this!!

 

Agree ! .. at least an option. Perhaps they will surprise us at the refresh but not holding my breath.

 

Went today to put my name in line on the new Tundra, my dealers in Orange County don’t take a deposit yet. I stopped by to check out the new Raptor which is damn good looking but nearly lost my lunch when I saw a $30k “market adjustment” I wonder if someone is stupid enough to pay that… is this even legal?

 

The problem with that is, if they offered it as an option, it would probably outsell the v6 by a good margin. So all they have invested in the v6 would be for nothing, lol

 

At 7200 rpm...... and only 395ft at 4600 rpm. Thats not what you want in a truck.

What is it with people in v8's. I dont get it. If an engine out performs another who cares how many cylinders it has.

 

Went to the Texas State Fair today..
They had 2 2022s that were locked up and labeled as PROTOTYPES..
A brown 1794 and an orange TRD Pro..
I kinda liked them both.
At least with the 1794 they got rid of that awful orange leather interior...



My next Tundra, in 5 or 6 years, will be either a 1794 or a Platinum.
But I'll be keeping the 2014 for at least 5 to 8 more years.
Sure is nice not having a vehicle payment.

They had 7 or 8 2021 models there...

 

Still would be nice test drives comparing all 3 motors (V6tt, hybrid, A new V8)

 

Its not just “someone”…but a shitload of people who pay not only $30k but $50k mark ups (even more than that on higher end cars). The Raptor R will command $50k+…write it down.

As you get older you realize there are more dumb people than smart people..and its not even close.

 

I think most people who rant over the v8 not being available are like myself. I just want to have the option of choosing the engine I like more. After all isn't it most peoples complaint that Toyota doesn't do things like the big 3 which offer engine options.

The current numbers that 5.0 v8 puts out are not great for a truck but im sure with changing a few things(camshaft, intake manifold, etc) the torque and hp could be changed enough to work for a truck.

 

They were not of any help. Got the generic not a factory problem, it’s a dealer problem. I even told them I was buying a modified truck that became unreliable and gave them a bad name. Didn’t care.

I wish we didn’t have the dealer system. Most are money hungry scum bags pulling stunts like this.

I didn’t know the wiring harness had been hacked until it broke.
