Yeah I have to agree with this 100%. We have a luxury here not many threads get. We can talk shit, bust nuts and generally Fuhk off pretty freely. I don’t want to muck it up. We also do one hell of a job of moderating our own thread and for me that is just Epic AF. I appreciate all y’all and I believe a fireside beer talk would probably prove a lot of us are on the same page but for the sake of our crew let’s not make it public.

So, this morning I made a decision that I've been pondering for several months. I broke it to my wife this morning. On Monday I will be resigning from my current job/career. I'll have to find a job with insurance for about 4.5 years, thanks to someone on here I found out that Costco offers benefits for 24 hours a week. I think @ColoradoTJ . That led me to do some research and there's others also.

After 41 years, I do not intend to go back to the ship repair industry. But, never say never. At least I hope not. Although if my body would cooperate, I'd finish my career as a ship fitter, the same way I started.

Needless to say, my spending will be scaled back. I might have to switch to Busch instead of Bud, like I drank in my 20's when we were income impaired. But I'm feeling better with every passing minute. Already looking forward to October 18.

Thanks. It's a few years earlier than I intended, but with the current situation I'm not sure I would last a few more years. We'll figure it out. We always have. Always good to have encouraging words from a great community.
The biggest thing is we've been able to splurge for the last 15 or so years, and still save. We had an agreement, if one of us wanted to spend over $500 we would discuss it. Under that, have at it. I believe that will be a different limit now.

My grandfather that lived nearby (on my dad's side) was a pretty cool dude. Farmer, fisher, etc. We spent good times together. Every time I'd walk in the house (smoke filled with yellow/brown walls) he'd pluck me on thr head with his big ass farmer hands and borderline bring a tear to my eye and/or pants me.
But the first time I brought my girlfriend that's now my wife over to his house, first thing he said was "That's not the one you brought over here last week"

What up crew, hope you had a great Saturday. Today was my Dads 80'th Birthday, and maybe his last due to his ongoing health problems including Cancer. We had a huge bash at the S. Boston Yacht Club we belong to, and the weather for Oct. 2nd was 75 with a slight Westerly breeze. Amazing weather for this time of year up here on the coast. Awesome day, all the family was here for something we all know is inevitable. Never take any day for granted my brothers.

When I brought my current wife (we’ve been together now for 46 years and he’s long been dead) over to meet my dad, he says, “where’d you get such a scrawny one?”
I was not close to my father and had no interest in going to his service when he died.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy time with family. We should all enjoy the time we have with family.

I saw a video that hit on this. Wish I could find it.

Paraphrasing here; we tend look at our parents and family and think "we've got another 5,10, or 20 years with them at least" and we feel like that is lots of time.
Well how often do we actually go see them in a year? Once? Twice? All of a sudden that "10 years" just became "you only get to see your parents/family 10 or twenty more times."

Make sure those you care about know how you feel. If you wait, at some point, it may be too late.
