I do find it funny thought that many of the domestic owners think of a transmission as a regular maintenance item that gets replaced at 100-150,000 miles. I couldn't tell you how many times I've heard someone say my truck has been great, no problems except I replaced my transmission at 100,000 miles, but that's nothing major.
Starters, alternators, water pumps, etc are all considered regular maintenance for them, I'm over hear saying I've put 2 sets of tires, a battery and a set of brakes on my truck. That's what I consider regular maintenance items except of course fluids.

That's all my neighbor and multiple friends of Done have done on there's, tires and fluids. I'm the one who tried to run Toyota trucks and had the issues, thought we were supposed to be the other way around? I have yet to have trouble free experience with the Toyota truck product, my wife had and we still have an 06 TC that has been great to us, i just purchased her a 21' 4runner in march so maybe this is the one that gives me this great unicorn experience people have with yota trucks.

I don't think everyone's ever seriously suggested that all Toyotas are 'supposed to be trouble-free.' (Or if they DID, they were sorely mistaken.)

Things will fail; it's just the nature of things. However, are Toyotas statistically far less likely to fail? Are they more reliable? Yes. I had a sensor go bad in my 2020. My son said "Dad, I thought you said you'd never have any issues."

I told him "No, I never said that. I said I'm a lot more likely to have LESS issues with this truck than with others I've owned."

For me, that's been the case. Before it hit 20K, my last truck ('13 F150) had two recalls, a radio replacement and a right rear door issue that was never able to be fixed.

Of course I recognize that may not be the case with everybody; and if someone's owned 2 or 3 Toyotas and has had nothing but issues I wouldn't blame them for going elsewhere. I know people who have owned Dodges/Rams with very few issues, but the *18* shop visits in 18 months for my 2002 Ram 1500 was enough to swear me off of them forever, no matter HOW nice the ride is nowadays. LOL

I have a 2006 4runner with close to 200,000 miles. No failures and regular maintenance only. Brakes, tires, fluid changes, filters, light bulbs, wiper blades and that’s about it. Not only did I get the unicorn experience but also saved $60,000 in car payments along the way. And it’s still worth money now.

How much did the 4th dealer discount from msrp?

I just searched all of New England and the best I could do was msrp on a prime rav4. I'd be willing to travel to get a deal but unless you've tried buying in the past few months I don't think people understand. Hell the kia and hyundai dealers in my area have adm's. Some of the renegades and cherokees have discounts and maybe a 1k off a camry but thats about it

But did you read? There's like one recent post from Stecky who got a discount on a new Tundra which is rare these days. All that was said was when these get to ordering expect ADM or dealer added options on top of MSRP. Which is the norm.

I'm tempted but I think my wife would kill me. We still need a washer/drier yet this year.

It just comes off that way on this forum, when in fact Toyota's have there issues to and some are very long plaguing that Toyota never fixes...but somehow everyone just seems to give it a pass. I have owned two Toyota trucks my 2012 tacoma and my 2017 tundra both purchased new and both had the most issues out of any vehcile i have owned. I am now onto my 3rd Toyota truck my wifes T4R so maybe it will be different this go around.

    2012 Tacoma
*Rear brake squealing- replaced under Warranty with updated parts under TSB
    *Battery @ 2yrs old-replaced under warranty
*Rear leafs causing drivetrain shudder and driveline vibration-TSB under warrantty for new parts
*AIR valve failed stuck closed @ 29k Toyota reset ecm and sent me on my way
Pinging under acceleration- ECM update, still pinged so i run 93 in it and problem solved
*AIR valve failure stuck open @50k, limp mode- Toyota again would not replace told me to pack sand and tried to charge me $100 diagnostic fee since i wasn't under 36k warranty anymore. Valve assembly for them was obscene amount fought toyota corporate for emission coverage and that part is exempt or some bs. I bought the valves for $500 and installed...toyota 2yrs later made good with special service campaign and refunded me my money.
*Front brakes twice due to warping, finally went to ebc set at 60k and no issues since and just pads when needed

I'm at 94k now with this truck.

    2017 Tundra
*Brake controller reprogram because its crap and doesn't work, still not great after TSB reflash, warranty
*cam tower leak passenger side, so bad smoking off manifold@21k fixed under warranty
*Battery failure @ 3yrs, no coverage
*Alternator failure @55k, Toyota wouldn't cover wanted like $800. Bought a used one from LKQ with 10k miles on it and boy its not fun installing one of those on these trucks.
*Front brakes once due to warping, Toyota replaced under warranty with oem, 20k later it was the same so i went to EBC after the Same issue with Tacoma and problem solved.

In between the taco and the tundra i had a 2014 Silvy that i put 60k on before i traded it on the tundra and It had nothing done to it but oil changes. I ran that truck hard to for my business and it was wonderful.

I'M only at 2,700miles with the 4runner now so we shall see. Maybe the 2022 Tundra could be better but i doubt its going to be problem free from the start and will have growing pains.

No one is talking about accepting it. All that's said is expect it to be added on. The norm is for it to be on there. Now if you're like Stecky or myself who would drive (in my case fly) obviously it can be avoided.

I sure hope my T4R follows that path as well, it seems to be a great platform.

I've got pinging with my 2011 Limited 4Runner and it only goes away with 93 octane, same 1GR-FE that Toyota issued the TSB for in the Tacoma. Granted they're tuned differently, but there's another example of Toyota being weird with what they fix.

Are you saying that if a customer special orders a truck, some dealers will insist on dealer add-ons even for customer ordered?

Sales manager said if it was any other model it would never happen in this market, but he happens to have too many Tundras. He said everything else has ADM on it and he has very little inventory... zero RAV4's for example

No question... this will happen. Especially since Toyota lets them add some of the dealer addons to the factory sticker

Maybe when trucks start becoming available we can keep track of the dealerships and their tactics.

You'd think if it's ordered by a customer they could request no add-ons.
I haven't run into that problem in my region, but I've only recently bought 2 new cars in the last 5 years.

I know it happens to cars on lot, if I see that on the window sticker, I usually ask if they can get me one fresh off the truck, or I leave. Pre pandemic of course

Actually it's been my experience that here in Texas not as many people care about having a 4x4 as you might think. I think a lot of that has to do with how rarely we have winter weather that requires it

1000%. Northside ford here in SATX, upfront and honest. Custom orders get the $2495 customer care and protection package. Pricing was MSRP + this. Thus why I ordered mine out of state for $8500 below MSRP .

I was surprised by it too, but basically if you refuse the add-ons they will just give you your deposit back and move on to the next person on the list. They do this because they know the next person will pay it.

I have a fully refundable deposit. If the dealer I have a deposit with insists on charging above MSRP then I will take my deposit back and walk away

So you went there and inventoried the Tundras at this dealership?
