Y'all must go to really shitty dealerships then. Mine tells me the exact price of everything before the order is placed.

I think he is referring to the scenario where you build it exactly like you want on toyota.com, but when you get to the dealership to place the order you find out that they have a bunch of useless garbage addons that are just profit centers for the dealership and are "required"

Exactly. The ones around here all add something anyway. I can only imagine when the orders open up.

Go to a different dealership then. Most dealerships will tell you their add-ons before you come close to ever ordering the vehicle if you just ask them. People on here are so worried about getting screwed by the dealership yet they can't just do the research beforehand and put in the time to find one that you like and trust.

Yes, and Toyota has gotten sneaky about it by allowing the dealerships to add them as "factory options" so that they can't be removed and show up as part of the monroney label. Not sure if other manufactures do that or not, but most I have dealt with before have been done through "addendum" stickers once the vehicle arrives at the dealership

We aren't worried about whether they will tell us, but rather that it will be forced on us... I don't want to spend $5k on useless crap or "market adjustments" just because the market is crazy and they can get away with it. So it's not a matter of disclosure it's a matter of not being able to negotiate it. I don't know what it is like where you live, but around here all dealerships do it. Even the so-called "reputable" ones.

Then start looking in other cities close by. If you are willing to travel a little you can save a lot of money. Not every dealership does that crap, I promise. The 2 in my city are up front with any dealer add-ons and they make sure I am aware of them before I order anything. Neither have ADMs either.

Dude... I just drove four hours one-way yesterday to save money on a truck so I get it. 95% of people aren't willing to do that so here in the Dallas area all of them are taking advantage of the market and are either adding market adjustments or a bunch of dealer addons... Again... they are totally up front about it just like you are talking about... that's not the problem.

The problem is when ALL dealers in a reasonable area pull the same shit.
I bought my wife a new Toyota recently, I visited 4 dealers, I eventually figured out that 3 of those dealerships are owned by the same group, hence why I was strangely realizing those 3 dealers were all not budging at the same price as each other. And they all stood firm on their add-ons.

The 4th dealer I went to was awesome, and I just found out it was sold to new owners, so they may not be as good as before.

I'm willing to go out of state at this point. Dealers in my area suck.

When was the last time you tried to negotiate a vehicle purchase? I have plenty of negotiating skills, but this market is different

Exactly. I live in the greater Seattle area and I wont buy a vehicle from here period. My last couple rigs have either from from ID, OR, and even went to SoCal. Couple hours of travels to save thousands is absolutely worth it. It was nearly a $10k difference to get a BMW X3 for my wife from OR than it was to buy locally in Seattle, it's pretty ridiculous. I haven't seen a TRD nothing on our lots here in nearly 2yrs now.

Right now the dealers are doing what the hell they want and getting away with it because the BUYERS buy the vehicles, don’t buy from them be willing to travel. Ive bought lots of new Toyota’s from 4 different dealers around me… if they don’t play my game I don’t pay and go to a different dealer. Don’t be sloppy with your money!!!

I live in the same area. We had excellent experience with Magic Toyota in Edmonds. They just sold to a new owner. I'll give them a try, but not expecting much.
All the other dealers in the metro area were horrible.

I'll have to keep them in mind, I dealt with the Toyota just north of them in Everett. Wasn't impressed to say the least.

This whole situation is tough. Many folks that need a vehicle that are limited in their ability to walk away and folks with more dollars than sense will pay whatever because it’s convenient. Supply is limited, and I’m hopeful that won’t be the case with the 22’s, but I’m not hanging my hat on that fact.

I agree on not giving a poor dealership your business and would be willing to go out of state to get the right one for the right. Frankly, I’d rather fly somewhere to get a fair price than pay the exact same total amount in town because of a markup. I also know that my situation is different than many others.

Just because everyone is adding decent generators to their trucks, doesn't mean Toyota has to...:boink:

Mike Sweers is just so down to earth and the 'overbuilt' Tundra continuing on is awesome ! I really wanted to not like (and still wish v8 was an option) the 6cyl but after hearing more about it, I know it will be a winner. I could tell Mike was bummed to see his baby, the triple tech c frame go by the wayside, but loved his resolve with the new frame.

That new interior is awesome, especially the Platinum seats $$ and love the new bold exterior lines !

IMO Toyota just does it right with a special group lead by someone like MS, while the big 3 just seem like corporate hodgepodge.

Down for a 2023 TRD Pro in MGM !

It was interesting to read Mike’s response on the engine in that link from earlier in this thread. Effectively, the engine (and everything else) has been tested for 6 years to operate as advertised, not with the potential to operate as advertised. It’s an important difference.

You're really going to put stock in an article that lists only 3 trucks, including a 2015 silverado? Show me a 2015 silverado with 300k+ miles on it, i say to the author. It's all just speculation for clicks. We all know what brands regularly top the most reliable long term lists.

Look at the model years on those. Nanny bits are the new norm. Although, with some exceptions, we continue to benefit from cars becoming ever more reliable.

I actually know a few contractors that have Silverado and Sierra’s. No major issued and they have close to 300k mileage.

I think GM is actually worse but at least when you use their online build and price tool it tells you what you have to remove to add something else. Ford's website is a pain in the ass (but still not as bad as Dodge's).

That's easy to do, this notion that only a tundra can go up to 300k without issue is crazy. My neighbors 2013 Sierra has 285k on it with no major issues, my 2017 tundra had 2 pretty big issues before 50k. So what's that say, tundras are junk? No, but they all have there quirks and the 22' tundra will not be exempt either.
