Lie flat front seats would be pretty sweet as well, but again probably not a big selling point

For sure, it's all a gimmick, but to the uneducated, it looks way more impressive than towing a trailer up the Ike Gauntlet.

Doesn't the new hybrid sienna have a better system? I know it's output isn't as much as the ford but already it's a step up. So Toyota already has the tech, how they think a minivan owner needs it but not a truck owner is beyond me. The dropped the ball on that aspect and I hope owners who do purchase make it known to them and maybe it will be added later on.

100% agree. Toyota has a 1500w system for the Sienna, why not Tundra

Likely because you can fit 24 kids and their devices in a Sienna. LOL

If I have to go get me a truck right now, I wouldn't be concerned about getting the "old" model. I would track down the transmission cooler parts and get them installed again though.

Good thing the new tundra has the air suspension option to negate the sag

I have seen that but will it be available on every model or just the upper trims? Hopefully they give the lower trims that option as well for people who will be hauling and towing. that's the issue with coils, they ride good but then you have to band-aid them with air so they can carry weight and now we are introducing another component that can have issues down the road.

Bingo. I have certain alerts and notifications set up to go directly to my phone just so I DON'T have to sit in front of a laptop during off hours. Now when real PTO hits I am a ghost. As it should be. But my Type A personality still has me checking in in-between beach beers :D

Jesus Christ... if they wait till December to release basic info/specs after their big "reveal" buildup, they'll be losing me for sure. I want to at the very least, know if this truck will work for me in terms of MPG/pricing before continuing to wait. Been anticipating this for 17 months just to see some pictures and towing ratings.

I have a Mercedes GLE550e which is a plug in hybrid, and similar (from what I understand) to the new hybrid Tundra setup. The power is 436hp with 479 torque and the hybrid seems to be more designed for power than fuel efficiency. The delivery is smooth, the takeoff transition from electric to gas is quite unnoticeable, and when you stomp on it - well honestly a lot of the reason why I bought it had to do with what happened when I floored it getting on the freeway. Long story short, I think everyone should give it a chance.

I don't think it will be as easy as "give it a chance" if the hybrid starts at $70k. Amazing motor or not, if they start them that high, it's going to put a lot of people out of the market.

Why would you even say that? The most educated predictors mostly say they will start around 55-60k

I'm commenting more on the setup of the motor and how it functions/feels. But I just don't think Toyota would consider an increase like that (dealerships, on the other hand, probably wouldn't have a problem with that number), it would be too hard to compete.

Considering there are already 2021's on lots selling for 65k+ I don't think it's an unreasonable number. Maybe once the chip shortage cools off we'll see some numbers come back down to MSRP. Anyway the point was IF it comes in high, its not a just give it a shot scenario. It's a give it a shot scenario IF you have the money. Not trying to ruffle any feathers here.

As crazy as it sounds, people will gladly pay $70k and the market is there.

If you think the demand is crazy for a Tundra, then you should look at the demand for GMC AT4 and Denali trim vehicles. There are lists a lot longer than Tundras lining up to pay $65k - $100k for them.....

This whole "Covid" and "chip" shortage has completely changed the way auto makers and dealers are going to do business for the foreseeable future......

You use to be able to walk into a GM, Ford, Dodge dealer and order whatever you wanted if they did not have it is stock. That has completely changed with GM at least.....

I was sitting at the dealer with him yesterday and going through the ordering system. GMC is determining how many units will be built during a week. They are then determining which dealers will get allocation or the opportunity to put in a build. No more putting in orders and they build it.

For example, during the week of October 25, they are building 21 Yukon AT4's. Next line down it gives you your allocation number that you can order. This is determined by GMC based on sales volume now. If you are lucky you will be allocated one. Then they limit the number of packages on that vehicle. So even though there were 21 available, there were only 6 available with second row Captain's seats instead of bench.

There were11 people who submitted builds to dealer for an AT4 Yukon with about 2 coming available per month..... At least 6 months wait for one is what the estimate is.

Toyota is in the business to make money and they are better at it than anyone else. Why would I sell my upper trim truck for $56k when Ford and GM are selling no problem and have waiting lists for the same truck priced $70k plus?

The new Tundra will finally be on par as far as tech and features as the domestics and the price will unfortunately reflect that.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but "chip shortage" is an excuse for everything in every day life now......

I mean if you look at the market for 65-70k come launch time what is there? People saying it's insane to pay 70k for an F150 Lariat but it's happening. People are paying 70k for a Ram Laramie loaded or Limited base. Lots of 70k AT4s going out. It'll still sell at 70k.

Plenty of people will, not everyone can.
Completely agree on all points here. I can't imagine the pro with an Iforce Max Hybrid coming in below 65k, but I'm no educated predictor. Unless Toyota's new business model is to undercut the competition to sell more.
You'd be hard pressed to say the chip shortage isn't still at the core of this issue. Whether the makers like the new way or not, Its still an issue and a driving force for inventory issues, and huge ADM's from the dealerships.

    It's not just chip shortages.

It's shortages of all commodities at various times.

Y'all should research the current steel crisis, and imagine being an automaker now. The steel crisis will likely outlast the chip shortages.

Then there's issues procuring paint, tires, plastics, connectors, etc.

What I don't understand is the labor shortage. Its kind of compounding all the other shortages. It's like where did all the people go that filled these jobs before and how are they paying their bills with inflation housing costs 70k pickups etc. I'm not smart enough to understand how in the he'll that works lol

One would think that at some point (and I see it happening now, but not on a large scale), manufacturers and others would take steps to avoid this sort of issue in the future - and I do realize that something like this would require nothing less than shifting rare earth mining to different countries, building local plants, etc.

I mean, the excuse (and it was somewhat of a valid one) for having stuff outsourced was "Well, it's saving us money." Now it's sort of....not.

I'm hopeful the hybrid Tundra will cost like $2k more than the non-hybrid like they do with the Corolla but I realize I may as well wish for a one-ton Tundra with a manual transmission while I'm at it.

Well there are some of us that work remote and its nice when you can work on a mountainside somewhere in the Rockies using nothing but your truck to kick a little charge in your computer and phone. Sure you can fire up a generator or use a goal zero, but its nice when you have the truck as a back up.
