Video Games

My PC needs a lot of upgrades but, since my friends and I mostly play BF2, I've been putting them off.

 

If you decide to do it or are considering it, I would put in a reservation now as the GPUs are still hard to come by.

My upgrade actually came out of necessity as my ol' GTX 1070 died on me in January. I think Cyberpunk killed it, the card was struggling to get 36-40 FPS at mid-settings. I happened upon a RTX 2060 Super and didn't hesitate as it was normal retail price, and I couldn't find a 3000 series card and AMD didn't have their new GPUs out yet. But I had also put in a reservation for an RTX 3070 and RTX 3080, which a 3070 became available about a month after getting the 2060, which also was normal retail. My son had been wanting a PC gaming rig, so I grabbed the 3070 and passed the 2060 down to him

I had put in several reservations for 3070s and 3080s, and shortly after getting the first 3070 another 3070 became available. I could have bought it and and been an a$$ and sold it for profit and recoup some of the cost, but... I'm not an a$$ so I passed on it. But I never did see a 3080 become available as I would for sure have grabbed one.

Edit: And btw, the reservations I put in for (retailers/manufacturers) shouldn't require anything up front or any kind of commitment since they can't guarantee availability and is first come first serve. And if you don't respond within a given time they move on to the next person.

 

GPU is lower on my list because I actually got a new one when GTA V came out. First priority will be replacing my burnt out sound card.

I'm looking at this build that I did about 10 years ago and wondering why I was such an idiot. Onboard sound? Micro mobo when I have a nice big case?!

State of Decay 1 and 2 are great.

 

GOT is a must, but God of War is even better in my opinion. Spider-Man is outstanding also.
And if you haven’t had a PlayStation in a long time, the Uncharted games and the newer Tomb Raider series are really great.

 

I've been trying to get the new Series X since it came out, and somehow lucked out and snagged one at list last week. The difference between the X and series X is huge, I'm amazed at the difference. I'm playing the new AC Valhalla now, and the graphics are amazing. Now I know why so many use PC's.

 

You all should be able to get PS5 and the Xbox. You just need to research your electronic stores a bit. They have specific dates as to when they get thier shipments in. I've picked up in the past year over a dozen of each platform for friends and family.

 

I haven't played a god of war since the PSP so that is on my list. I've been playing the newer tomb raider games on PC and those are really good. I will have to check out uncharted as well.

 

The new God of War is the only one I’ve ever played. It’s the best I’ve played in the last couple of years. Wish there’d been some dlc for it.

 

Agreed. Not being able to access the other worlds drove me nuts.

It's not too difficult to get one, just have to be constantly monitoring the online store of your choice. I use Best Buy and have bought 2 PS5's and 2 Series X so far. The Series S has been in stock there on and off all day online today.

My first PS5 crashed, so I returned it under the 30 days. Then was able to buy a second one a few weeks later. The second xbox I bought was for a buddy under his account on Best Buy, then I'm currently working on getting a third for another buddy. I rarely play the Xbox though, it just sits there, ha.

 

Yes! GOW us hands down the best in my opinion. Played through it 3 times and I wish there was more. Already excited about the new one dropping soon.

 

Never played any of the God or War games.

 

Only play the ps4 one. There should be a word for games you missed out on and are now outdated. My friend loved all the God of War games and that's why I tried the new one. Loved it but went back to try the others and couldn't make it through a few minutes. In its time it was probably awesome but it did not age well.

 

Haha yeah I did a micro as well with a full size tower, but it serves my purpose. I also gave up on sound cards a while ago and picked up an ASUS Xonar USB sound module that does Dolby Digital Live. That has been a one stop solution for me and has been a much easier to get multi-channel audio versus having to fiddle with multi-channel PCM since my PC is connected to a processor/amp to do all the decoding.

 

I never played 1 & 2 when they released and tried to go through them not too long ago to get caught up for GOW3. I finished 1 and couldn't get through 2. I got enough of the back story I think and will top it off and watch a synopsis when I'm ready for GOW 3.

Edit: And actually I think it was you who told me to just jump into 3, which I'll get to eventually as I'm doing a Res Evil marathon at the moment.

 

I've been playing Borderlands recently, and it is still a great game. I think it came out in 2009?

 

I finally got around to playing 1 & 2, such excellent games and great replay value. I also picked up 3 but haven't gotten to it yet. Steam sales are ridiculous. Games go on sale faster than I can play them lol.

 

Borderlands has kept up for sure. I like going back to them after awhile and remembering all the cool guns.

 

I bought a $10 USB sound card to tide me over but it's a pain in the ass. Audio in my headphones was way too loud and my mic was way too quiet. I've been fiddling with an audio equalizer I downloaded and I got it so I'm not deafened any more but my mic is still way too quiet even at max gain.

@T-Rex266 this is the thread to browse for games to try out. Fair warning, some of the previous posts should have spoiler alerts for some really good games. I'm really careful about reading posts about games I've not played yet.

 

Man, Resident Evil was my favorite series until they went first person. I hate first person. No idea why they had to do that.
My son has a couple of the remakes, but I haven’t gotten around to playing them yet. Are they a huge improvement over the originals?

 

Read this...boy that's a tough call. I'd almost say they're equal. Both of them have excellent endings and the stories are so tight. I remember when GoW first came out, thinking "nice, a pure hack n slash game." I realized very quickly the manufacturers included SO much back story, emotion, etc, that made the game fantastic.

If GoW:R is even 1/2 the game GoW was, I'll be pleased.
