TBH, I was not looking for an answer as to why the poor choice of styling. Guess Toyota keeps carrying the "ugly but reliable" stigma. Sure someone will find a way to bring the nascar grill into consumer fiberglass. I'll be crossing fingers for those wanting to change it, otherwise its chopping time.

Don't believe that has come out yet. Only information I've heard is non-hybrid should be available by December 2021 and hybrid by March 2022.

Pro has the hybrid and a few other items that'll push it into the mid 60's base. That doesn't include the ADM .

Funny you ask. I just got a call from a Toyota dealer they are expecting 22 models to arrive in November and asked if I wanted to put a deposit on an incoming one lol. By that time line, it should be soon

Anyone else disappointed we did get more than a 400watt inverter? Especially with the new hybrid offering...

I think this is a big miss. They didn't have to go huge like Ford's 7kW system. But from their interviews & articles and talking about making Tacomas and Tundras for a specific outdoor/ enthusiast- a 2kW would have been great. A rear plug is great, but after all this time it feels like a step behind already.

Honestly, it's not a big deal for me. I can think of 2 times in the 5 years I've owned my truck when I could've used it. Some people would use it a lot, but it's not something I need. I had the little one in the Tacoma and I never once used it.

If anyone buys a vehicle with ADM that's on them and their own fault. I expect the Pro to be in the $62-$65K mark MSRP.

Both dealerships in the city I'm in have promised no ADM if I order from them.

That's good, around here people are willingly paying over MSRP. Where I got my 21 they have a list of over 100. My guy said majority are willing to pay at least 5k over with some at 10k.

Jalopnik recently had an article about dealers saying this until the vehicle shows up on the lot. Then they tack on the ADM and say take it or leave it.

Not saying this applies to your situation, just something to be aware of.

Certainly I'm aware of the possibility. If that happens I will gladly walk away and either find a dealer that won't do a markup or just buy a different truck. I have a family member that works for Toyota in corporate. He doesn't know many details of the 22 Tundra but he did tell me that Toyota is planning on putting most of their resources in the next 12 months into the Tundra and he doesn't expect shortages or markups happening like some fear.

This is just more dealers milking it. I highly doubt that many people signed up and indicated a willingness to overpay. If you maintain the mindset that you're going to pay a lot then you are going to pay a lot.

Regarding those Falken Wild Peak tires. They are excellent tires! With a wider rim on the Tundra, they will look awesome.

They feel very planted on the road, pretty damn quite on the highway and handle whatever I need when driving in the sand. I don't mess with mud.

This is not really directed to you (shlunky) just wanted to point this out regarding the tire looking small.

Normally I’d agree. But my guy has been 100% honest on the 22 and the 21 I purchased. They’re a big dealer, I think biggest in the US. They’ll get a lot of allocation but prob not enough to meet their big list. Obviously there comes a point where people will stop after first few or first allocation. But just like the corvette and others, there are folks willing to pay to be the first.

That's a rumor at this point, and a slight delay doesn't necessarily mean a shortage is on the horizon. The chip shortage is already starting to figure itself out and will continue to get better as we get closer to production, especially for the hybrids. My dealership just received a 21 Pro last week and sold it at MSRP.

    Yes

Ford offers 2.4kW option also. I think 1.8kW (standard 15a like a house) would've been nice.

I use my inverter frequently enough that I'd pay extra for the option of more than 400w. Although, I'd be ok with 400w if it didn't require the engine to be running to even turn on.
On the Ford, both PB 7.2kW and non PB 2.4kW the engine will turn off if the load is low, and only restart occasionally to keep the battery charged enough. Toyota requires running engine even if nothing's plugged in.

Heck, the inverter I have on my current truck will automatically shut off to protect the battery, and my remote start system can start my truck automatically if battery discharges too much. My hokey system is more advanced than what Toyota currently offers.....on the Tacoma. Maybe Tundra will be more usable?

Not really. It's 400 watts more than the inverter I don't have on my 2020...

I read that as well, I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't see it go further. Toyota didn't even have production ready trucks for the big press release and reveal.

Agreed. Easy to do at the factory. TFL mentioned the Sienna has 1500W. I haven't had the 400W factory inverter but installed 600W PSW inverters into four Toyotas. We use it constantly for charging laptops, rechargeable batteries for headlamps, jumppack, power tool batteries. Used it to keep a travel trailer 12V going one night when the trailer batts conked out, plugged it into the trailer AC so we could get the furnace and water pump operating.

Aftermarket requires a bit of work beyond the inverter - low-voltage regulator, fuse or circuit breaker, correct AWG wiring, how to mount the hardware and how to run the wiring.

Toyota should have done all that factory with at least 1500W. But apparently market surveys showed their target customers don't care, or are ignorant about the versatility provided. Probably the latter.

lol um my 2016 tacoma used ZERO times. now the cig plug inside the cab was used once on a long trip to run a inverter to power a laptop in the back seat for the kids, granted it only pulled like 90w for the laptop.

or was that the 2012 tacoma. not sure so long ago. before cellphones became the thing on long trips now a days.

or that 95% of the buying public could care less about a 400w plug. i used ours zero times. i was more concerned about usb ports inside or a 110v outlet to run a fast charger to power a cellphone than anything on long trips. no one runs a laptop anymore in vehicle to do stuff. everyone uses a cellphone to anything now a days on trips.

but that was just us on our last family trip from ND to GA. i think the last time i used a laptop inside the cab was our 2012 tacoma before cellphones took over that role.

Anyone know the width of the rim they are using on the TRD Pro? IF they offer the 3 inch lift on the Pro I would love to spec mine out with 35's off the lot. My fear is the rim width/offset will be the limiting factor more so than suspension height.

FWIW the wife has the YUUUGE touchscreen on her Lexus 450 and it sits a bit above the dash. I do not mind it one bit. However what does suck about it is Lexus used a mouse control located on the center console for command inputs which sucks big donkey you know whats.

That mouse control is the worst thing they ever came up with. My wife has the NX and it has a little touch pad, I hate that thing.

They look roughly the same size as the 2021 Pro Rims which are too narrow IMO. I know Toyota is offering a 3 inch lift as a dealer option, but since the Pro already has a lift standard it will be interesting to see if you can add 3 more inches to it or not (I'm thinking no).
