So I had bought some kicker coaxial speakers for my front doors and upon testing them they did nothing. I had connected everything correctly and everything has a good connection but I can't hear anything coming from them. I'm very confused

Welcome to the forum. If you can provide us a few less details, that would be awesome. It opens the immense possibilities and everyone loves punching at the air, right?

But seriously, it's tough to help when too little info is given and we don't have a good understanding of how much you personally know about car audio. A lot of newbies just hack stuff up without researching or asking questions thinking "how hard can it be?"

Let me ask you some questions that may help someone help you.

Did you try the most basic troubleshooting step of plugging the old speakers back in?

There are three types of stereos for the Gen1 trucks: (1) JBL w/factory amp, (2) non-JBL w/factory amp, and (3) non-JBL and no factory amp ... which is yours? I ask because if you didn't bother to do your research and bypassed the amp, of course you'll be getting no sound to your door speakers :p

Are you using the factory stereo or an aftermarket stereo? (If aftermarket, please confirm you didn't do the dumbass move of cutting the factory harness)

Is your truck, an access cab, regular cab, or double cab?

Does it have the 4, 6 or 8 speaker setup?

Answers to these should provide ample details for us to try to guide you to an answer.

Did your old speakers work fine, if so, then there is a wiring error. I just replaces all 4 speakers on my 1st Gen, but before I did I took a 100Ω resistor and clipped it to the leads that were going to the speaker. I pulled both connectors from the amp unit, and checked that all 4 pairs of speaker wires noted within the 100Ω range. Thankfully all my wiring was OK.
Considering that I had no sound at all before I put the new Head unit in, I needed to verify the wiring.

So I know my truck came with a jbl sound system I don't know if it came with an amp or not

Also my old speakers only the small one did anything on both front doors. It's a double cab

There's also tweeters at the top by the window and there's the 6.75" speakers and the other tweeters at the bottom

Yep, that's what I had. You have an amp, it's a 6 spkr system, 2 tweeters, 4 6.5 speakers. I put a set of JBL 2 tweeters and 2 6.5 speakers in the front doors. Then a set of JL Audio combined tweets & 6.5's in the rear doors. These plugged into a Sony Head Unit.
Did you use a wiring harness adapter. I had the Metra set, they plugged into the cables from outputs of the amp perfectly. 1 plug had the back doors and the other covered the fronts.

No I didn't, I cut the wires that went to the tweeter at the bottom and electrical taped them then kept the 2 wires going to the midrange speaker and plugged it in to try it out

OK, sounds like a problem there, what makes and models of all speakers did you use, this could be a simple fix, I just need some details to work this out!

If you have the JBL system, then you have a factory amp. You absolutely need to bypass the factory amp if you installed an aftermarket head unit.

Solid chance the reason you're getting no sound is because you failed to use the correct harnesses and adapters to address the factory amp bypass situation.

I recommend to back up and tell everyone here what you've done. I'd start with answering the questions in my 1st reply. All 5 of them, in one reply so it's easy for everyone to read.

Just to make sure….your rears still work ?

As for your fronts, speaking of both left and right….did you put wire that came off + post of speaker to + of new speaker and other wire to neg. If one speaker is wired correctly and one not, there will be a noticeable problem...Bass hits harder when polarity is correct. It can distort when reversed.

Proper speaker wiring hookup from 2005 EWD if it helps....

My backs work, although I never changed them my fronts worked but not the midrange speakers so I'm trying to go to coaxial. Also no I haven't tried that but I'm also unsure as to how I'm supposed to do that

Ok, color me confused then. You didn't answer all those questions, but that's cool.

Back up a sec - I may be misreading what you're saying above because grammar is important when communicating on the internet.

Am I reading correctly above that:

"my old speakers only the small one did anything on both front doors"
    and
"I had bought some kicker coaxial speakers for my front doors and upon testing them they did nothing."

So, basically, the 6" drivers in the front door didn't work before and after?

If so, a channel on your factory amp is likely blown.

Try running wires directly from the head unit to the speakers. Don't use the the wiring at all. There is another option but it's more complicated and I wish I had just done what I'm suggesting. Plus you remove bunch of variables that can cause issues.

Well, your dead give away is this: If your front door mids weren't working before and after your install, then chances are the factory amp isn't seeing output in the front channels for those speakers. I don't remember if the double cab amp has that tweeter + mid wire separately or together (in series or parallel to create the right load)

You say you installed an aftermarket head unit. I've seen a jillion stories of people losing the ability to fade/balance their speakers or not get them all working because they didn't install an amp bypass cable on their JBL sound system, or they tried to reverse-engineer the factory amp wiring, or they cut factory harnesses and cables trying to save money.

Easiest way to diagnose whether you can test wiring? If your front tweets are working but not the front mids, get a small 3-4' run of cheap speaker wire and split it in half. To avoid causing too high a load on the factory amp, you'd run a series circuit to your new Kicker coaxial from the nearest front tweet.

In plain English, run a single wire from the negative (-) terminal of your door tweeter to the positive (+) terminal of the mid. Then run from the negative of the mid (-) back to the positive (+) of the tweeter. Do you get sound?

If it works, it may sound sound funny because of how your coax mids are cap'd off, but if you're getting sound that way one channel is getting sound, the other isn't. Or you did something stupid, like cutting the wrong thing in the door because you didn't realize the tweeter and mid are actually part of the same wiring circuit.

Did you consult with anyone before starting this, like going to Crutchfield and making sure you had all the correct harnesses, adapters, and compatible equipment?! They give you all that for free and provide free tech support!
