I'm with you, I use paper maps/ Atlas and plan my trip ahead of time. To me all the navigations to is place you on the major highways and you end up sitting in traffic, at all least around here that's how it is. I do my own routing and I have a nice easy drive.

I didn't say I was staring at a map driving down the highway. Passengers do that. Gazetteer is mainly for trip planning and in camp for the next day's adventure. I can remember simple things like "FS road 210 intersection is five miles from SR4." There's this thing called inches-to-miles scale right there on the map to figure it out with your brain. Have you ever used a Gazetteer?

I go to the CSP website to check realtime traffic conditions on the passes, any road actually. So, yeah, having realtime info available via a cellphone/laptop is a good thing.

Grid lock is what happens when those 3 other trucks and I have to stop because a moose has decided that the road is easier to walk down than the field.

No wonder some of you hate the new Tundra so much. Some of you are still plotting your routes using a sextant. JFC

Toyota misread their customer base. They should have dropped the 1794 and added a Lewis & Clark Edition .

I have GPS navigation on my boat, I use it when fishing/crabbing/shrimping to drop flags for hot spots. Flags are color coded to the activity, so I can come back next year and try again. Very helpful with crab and shrimp

Mostly, it's nice to know when traffic is about to go from blue to red around the bend. Especially during ski season.

"I plan my route using a paper map so I can avoid highways"

All the time they save by avoiding highways used up by manually planning the route LOL

Not to mention all modern GPS systems have "avoid highway" options....

I think he's referring more to the airflow needs of a twin turbo motor rather than size.

I'm in norcal and mostly use google maps. I feel that every time google offers an alternate route to save time, it ends up taking wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy effin longer. Thinking about switching apps. Does Waze ever do that?

It doesn't take that long to plan a route, follow your gps over my way going north.. It will only take you through the hrbt tunnel to 95 and you will be hating life wishing you would of planned something different before you left.

Waze is a lot more aggressive than google maps at alternate routes, Waze will take you thru a subdivision and across thru the back of a warehouse complex if it thinks it can save you time.

Not sure about this. Google usually shows me two or three routes and I'll just pick the one I want. But if I don't pick the one it thinks is fastest, it will tell me it's switching to that route unless I select something on my phone to tell it not to - while I'm driving!

    Complete with:

    - Buffalo hide covered seats
    - Beaver skin lined steering wheel
    - Dedicated storage for your flint and steel
    - Storage under the rear seat for your flintlock rifle
    - Compass holder on the dash
    - OEM roof rack for your canoe.

    10/10, would buy.

Last week, due to all the roadwork on the Garden State Parkway/Jersey turnpike, we got an unrequested tour of western Jersey - beautiful country, but ... added an hr or so to our ride from VT to SWFL in the '11 Tundra....

Mike sweers said it is for cooling. Since this is a global platform they have a global standard for engine bay temperatures, mostly for safety reasons, that needed to be met and the grill helps with that.

Decided to make a more further in depth photoshop expanding on my last post. I think overall even with just the 3 inch lift and 35's it'd look crisp.

Every time I think I'm smarter than Waze, I end up stuck in traffic. Sometimes it takes me on weird routes through neighborhoods and back roads - but it's never really let me down. Usually when it has me take a weird route, it feels like it's taking longer, until I look up the traffic and see my main route was dead stop.

That said, Google owns WAZE. I still think the WAZE algorithm is unique, but who knows.

If Toyota would just colormatch the lower part of the grill/bumper like you have on the left pic, all the complaints on the grill would go away. Maybe they will since these are pre production trucks and it seems like 95% of the complaints are on the huge grill. I don’t think it’s all big, it’s just the way they keep the bottom piece black, that makes it appear a lot bigger than what it is. To me, the black grills, doer handles, mirrors, make the truck look cheap, it reminds me of the plain Jane fleet trucks with the black plastic trim.

Toyota dealerships will probably color match for the customer after it gets delivered.

I'm curious why there's been no talk of the new Michelin-specific tire Sweers mentioned? From one of the release event photos someone got a closeup of the sidewall and I read, "Defender LTX Trail". Can't seem to find anything from a quick google search...

Those were the old tires on the TRD OR packages. They are now using the Falken Wilkdpeak's.

EDIT: Sorry about that. I misread what you wrote thus misunderstood what you meant.
