I try to avoid using anymore.

I found I was becoming dependent on it, and I couldn't recall a route in my memory if navigation got me there.

I've gone back to looking at a map/route and committing it to memory, like I used to do before smartphones.

Since my Dad passed you might be?

I really only use it for trips where I dont know the area or route but when I need it I really need it and Nav is hardly one of those apps drivers should not be using!?

Also using my phone is great when it works but worthless when it doesnt and until all of the country lives on my phone I still prefer a Garmin to anything else.

you might be. If I’m going anywhere I haven’t been or just taking long trips I use it. I like seeing turn right in 500 miles. So I can relax and not worry about watching for signs. I’m not good at looking at signs haha

    I can relate to that.
Long trips or a previously unvisited destination in an area in which I am unfamiliar are the only times I use it. Even then, I only turn it on when I start getting close to the parts unknown.

I look things up before I leave and if I get turned around, I'll pull over and check Google maps on my phone. I haven't used turn by turn directions in years. Too many times it's led me into dead ends or off course. I don't trust it. If I can look at a map, I can see multiple routes and contingencies. I dunno. I feel more engaged with my driving and my trip when I have an active hand in deciding which turn to take.

I only use it when going to places I've never been, such as my weekly trips to pick up whatever junk my wife has bought on Facebook Marketplace.

My wife was driving from Edmonton to Jasper and called me in a panic because she couldn't get Maps on her phone to talk to her for some reason.

"Uhh, just keep driving West until you get to the exit for Jasper. How hard can that be?"

Why couldn't they make the front like that on the production Tundra? Thats a considerably smaller grill.

LOL. Yeah, I've done the same. I liked to mess with The Woman when we visited family in rural Sask where google maps are useless.

"So yeah, you need to head up 3 sections until you hit the field where's Ian's tractor burned back in '97. Hook a right and keep going until you see John's barley field. Hang a left, pass the hall where Zach and Lisa were married and you'll know you're there when you see the swimming hole. If you get to where the elevator used to be you've gone too far. Oh, don't forget to stop in at Mrs. Smythe's place for a slice of blueberry pie and her homemade apple cider."

So maybe worth trying them again, things have gotten better in general.

My Dad loved the Dist-O-Map I got him too and I bet they still make them.
He also would not use a Cell Phone ever.

Living in Southern California where construction/traffic/accidents/protests can block off any road, at any time - I religiously use Waze for navigation. I have multiple places I go to for work, and even if I've been there 1000 times, I still fire up the Waze app to get directions just in case I need to take an alternate route due to any of the aforementioned reasons. It's really saved my ass a few times by telling me to get off the highway a couple of stops early, or late - or to take a completely different route because of a closure, or something.

The GR is small compared to the UR, thats like saying gen 2/2.5 need more radiator intake... they dont.

All the talk about managing heat in the Turbo motor and the stupid Mongo grill just seem to go together to me,but just guessing really.

The smaller screen will also have android auto and apple car play available just like all the rest of the Toyotas that have come out in the past couple of years.

Yeah, I just wasn't sure if the small screen would have it or only the big one.

Waze doesn't work very well where I am. That said, your state has more people than my entire country. I can get across town in 10 minutes and the closest city bigger than mine is 4.5 hours away. There's very long, very straight stretches of highway with nothing between here and there. LOL.

DeLorme Gazetteer for me. I can't count how often me family and friends have pulled them out of those things called 'map pockets' on the back of front seats. Not gonna fool around with a teeny screen when we have a huge 60 page paper map to reference.

Nothing like staring at a map while driving dow the highway trying to figure out where you are on it. I’m fine never having to do that again.

Yah, it can easily take me an hour to go 20 miles here - and one issue on the road can add a ton of time to my commute.

I'd go insane. I get antsy when there's 3 vehicles ahead of me on my morning commute, which is about 8 minutes normally.

Haha, must be nice. Now that I think of it - traffic is the only reason I use navigation. I know where I'm going 99% of the time, I just don't know what surprise lie ahead.

That looks much better the the bigger screen, much more seamless design.

I’ve grown to actually adore technology and the advantages. I do a lot of marine navigation with no land in sight. Grew up learning how to calculate courses with compass rose and parallel rulers. Then dropping a float by a fixed marker and timing the direction in which it floats away thus allowing you to calculate any cross currents and wave deviations. This would get you fairly close to destinations but still remember deviations that took us many miles off course. The longer the route the harder it was to be accurate. Today’s GPS chartplotters put me on target to the feet each and every time. Love the advances.

I'd go insane as well. Traffic triggers me. I have a short bikeable commute.

Google maps is critical out here for driving I70 back and forth to the mountains. Trucks, tourists, cops, and traffic, so it's always good to see what's coming up.
