I drive 80 on gravel roads and so far haven't found anything that would cause me trouble. As long as it stows itself when I'm pulling into our lake lot.

Looks great in person , I really like the 1794 edition. The grill on prototype is not chrome. Second thing I found out date of availability has been changed from dec to Jan 2022 during yesterday press conference. Hybrid will be available during spring 2022 , more likely in summer of 2022.

Bug eye was ugly, and we didn’t get an STI in that flavor. The Hawkeye was probably the best looking aside from your blobeye.

The new wrx is horrendous… I’ve owned several WRX and STIs and while none were handsome none repulsed me like those Rav4 fender flares on the sedan. They are angular and flat and weird and they didn't even commit to the style. Fender flares should be big and brash and body colored on a car like that, and go all the way around the fender without that awkward pinch inward on the bottom.

I mean the least they could have done was just dropped the drivetrain in the crosstek… at least that was commuted to the 90’s outback style of ugly.

I think the 2022 WRX looks great (although, realistically no WRX looks great), coming from someone that still owns a Bugeye. In my opinion the GC up to the 05 was the last of the rally look with the 'tacked-on' body panels, wings, and large foglights. It started to be more smooth and streamlined starting in 06.

The 2022 although do not have the large fog lights, I like that it's going back to the rugged tacked-on rally look rather than the street look that have become.

I would bet it’s only at highway speed. Sweers basically said they designed it to be retractable so it wouldn’t affect off road capability, so if it came down at a low speed it would defeat the purpose.

Too many bright colors for me. But you’re the one driving it. Get whatever color makes you happy. No point in having a new truck and regretting the color later on.

    I mean no disrespect.

Toyota just comes out with the first completely new Tundra in like 14 years. It has a new and dramatically different engine, a new transmission, and a coil spring rear suspension; in my mind this is pretty revolutionary stuff and I want to learn as much about these things a possible.

Yet, at least on this website, I predominantly only hear about fender flares and the shape of the front grille.

There have been a lot of discussions on the drivetrain and suspension. I think that’s it’s just there is alot still unknown, like gas mileage.

You just not be following all the threads. I think the biggest discussions have been about the hybrid, mpg, and what the shuffle of trims with options and can and bed configurations people would like to see.

I'm liking that blueprint platinum front grill, and other features. I wonder if you can get TRD off road with that package? I was looking at the list of features from the NL (Newfoundland-Labrador - Canada ) Western dealer but is that all options for Canada? I'm thinking it is. Can't wait to use the online configuration tool...

We have a MGM 4Runner and a MGM Tundra, and the wife's car is the same color (but it's not a Toyota). If you like a color, you like a color! Get it and be happy.

As near as I can tell from what I’ve seen the TRD Off-road package won’t be available on the Platinum. I’m disappointed about that.

I was looking at all the videos for the 2022's, and the trucks, and think they should find a better crew to do their detailing prep pre-show. (and I understand, this show was mostly just to get the product out there for everyone to see) Lots of what looked like liquid wax left in the hood flares, and spiderwebbing all over the place. I know there's going to be tons of fingerprints from all the people all over them, and some of these are pre-production units, but a fast RO over them and then a quick spray detailer would really make these pop! Love all the metal flake colors. Especially that blueprint. But, even the 1794 Mesquite brown and the SR5 I think it was with the gray metal flake on the front grill. Great color options.

I'm following another vehicle that was fully revealed this month, and that one also got pushed out from "early Spring" to "late Spring"...I expect it'll get pushed out again a few more times, wouldn't be surprised if this happens to the Tundra a few more times also.

Was reading an automotive industry article, they are saying manufacturers like Mercedes are fed up with their Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers (these are the companies that procure supplies for auto manufacturing, these companies actually are the ones who determine/predict how many chips, connectors, wires, etc to order and they stock and resell to OEMs) and they are going to significantly bypass the Tier 1/Tier 2 companies in the future and work more directly with manufacturers. They are also considering to begin designing and making their own chips. They specifically mentioned conflict with China and/or global warming as serious on the horizon issues (lack of water in Taiwan has slowed chip production, and China wants to attack Taiwan). The article concluded that industry experts are confident the issues will last at least until 2023, and even longer depending on how the pandemic evolves.

Much of the plastic trim on these pre-production parts are high quality 3D printed or pre-production moldings. So much stuff with no grain, Toyota did say that the trucks being shown have unfinished plastics in many areas. The engine covers and door panels are all obviously not production-quality parts.

Im pretty positive nothing in there is 3d printed. The molds just had not been grained yet at that time.

True. Which is why domestics - who love airdams - remove them from their "offroad" versions. Get rid of it beforehand or the road will remove it. Same goes with stiff mudflaps. I love having mudflaps but I convert to flexible flaps if the truck comes with stiff plastic ones.

I just read a comment on a video that I don't think anyone has brought up here or elsewhere:
"Mpg is gonna be highest in the class. Most engine torque and lowest tow rating means its gotta have tall gearing. Tall gearing is for mpg. Im betting on 26 combined." - Henry Jones

Wind tunnel testing to reduce drag by 20%. Deployable air dam and airflow strakes. Weight reduction with aluminum body panels and composite bed. Ten speed transmission. Hybrid powertrain. That's a lot of engineering to come in second place.

Even though Sweers said in interviews that the powertrain is tuned for torque and not efficiency, I think he's lowering expectations from the rumors of 30 mpg. But it will still be class leading. Definitely the hybrid, and probably even the non-hybrid base V6tt.

Another good interview with Mike Sweers. They have worked on this truck for 6 years so there should be no comcern buying the first year model. Intersting that they did entertain the diesel and how Mike really does like diesels, that ought to mean the v6tt really pulls. Also addresses the huge grill, it does have a purpose! There global standard for engine compartment temps are different then there competitors so they need to keep the temps down.

I kinda was thinking this same thing. Though they are not known for chasing numbers or being class leading, I really don't think the mpg numbers are going to be disappointing by any means. Maybe they will really surprise us on the highway mpg with all the aero work they did.

With TSS being standard across all trims, hopefully the grill swap possibilities won't be limited.

Agreed! I’m interested in seeing how TSS will be affected by aftermarket winch bumpers. I think the Tacoma has had TSS for a while and lots of folks have been putting off road bumpers on their tacos. I’m not sure if that means they are disabling that system altogether or if there is a way to just remount the system onto an aftermarket bumper. Seems there would likely be some complicated recalibration involved. I’ll have to head over to tacomaworld to do some research.

edit: looks like it’s possible on 4runners anyway https://youtu.be/Gsy-ndVWVNQ

Anyone come up with any ideas for where to put the dog in the rear seat area? I was hoping to keep the dog off the seats but dang not a lot of options. I'm aware this is probably one of the least concerning issues but my dog is life ahaha
