    Good afternoon!

I am currently waiting on getting my truck by the end of April / start of May, so i'm in the market for a bed cover.

I hadn't seen much on the Toyota OEM Bed cover. Does anybody have any experience with one? Does anybody have any pictures? How low profile is it?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!

    -Thanks

I just picked up my Crew on Friday and am in the same boat. Toyota dealer was straight with me and said the OEM trifold is like $1500, but the same one (same manufacturer) withiut the Toyota emblem is $799. I am not sure what the actual brand is though. Do you know?

Bought a craigslist Llund Tri-Fold yesterday. 3 months old, perfect condition, doesn't lock or anything - just accomplishes my goal of appearance and covering. I'm fiscally conservative and paid 75 for it.

IMG_1905.jpg There another member here that can get you a nice discount off a bakflip brand tonneau cover. I picked up a bakflip mx4 myself, easy transaction and delivered to your doorstep.

It's great, install was easy. The cover fits nicely, I like the low profile look.

No, the rails needed to the taken off. There is a bracket kit that reinstalls it a couple of inches lower.

I have been looking into the Toyota OEM tonneau cover too. There is a YouTube video from Hilltop Toyota from 2014. In that video the OEM looks identical to the Extang Encore but it includes brackets to lower the deck rails. I called hilltop and they no longer sell it. Toyota now sells a a OME hard trifold tonneau (part number PU100-3415R-01 , This part number is for the 6.5 bed, diff part number other beds, see link)) that looks like the Encore but lacks the handle on top of the cab side panel. It looks like you can fold the cab side panel back like the Encore but it appears only from grasping the cable underneath. I found a link which contains the dealer installation instruction which shos a lot of detail (https://cad.external.toyota.com/aro...on/dio/my16 Tundra tonneau cover-dio issb.pdf). I also found the parts diagram online ( www.toyotapartsdeal.com/installation/Toyota-tundra-parts-3415r.pdf ). I am thinking of buying the Extang Encore and then ordering the brackets ( part number pu100 34121 23) from Toyota that would allow me to lower the deck rails. I'm pretty sure this will work. Unfortunately every time I get close to pulling the trigger I start reading about the Fold a cover G4 Elite and the Backflip mx4. I am losing my mind over this decision .

I will say I ordered the OEM Toyota Tonneau Cover and it resembles the Extang Solid Fold 2.0 and I have spoken with a Toyota parts specialist and she told me this.

    Toyota Parts Specialist:
"They are branded Toyota and built to Toyota specifications but Toyota does source them out to another manufacturer to produce them. There isn’t any way of knowing what that brand might be."

But under further review (Google searching just now) here is the exact tonneau that toyota sells.

Hope this helps =) I do like mine so far! only had it a week tho so ask me later =P

I was in the same boat - tough decision. The OEM is definitely an Extang or Extang knock-off. Ultimately for me it came down to the insane deal SuperSilver (on here) got me or the BAK MX4. Delivered to my door in like 2 days - insane. Easy install - can still use rails (I painted the ugly silver lowering brackets hammered black before installing though). Happy with the BAK so far.

This is great info, as I'm currently trying to decide on which hard folding tonneau cover to buy... how do you know that the Rugged
Premium is the exact brand Toyota is using?
    Thanks for the info!

Just got mine yesterday. I can confirm it is the rugged pro 2. It keeps water out very well but I'm not crazy about the handles to lock it down.

Agreed! The handles suck... If your not paying attention your actually loosening the clamps when you open and close the cover... Oh well I'm stuck with it now... But when I need to get another one better belive I'm gonna vet that out lol

Update - my BAK is rusting at the rivets and screws already - after only 3 months! Also, despite several adjustments, it leaks pretty bad. Much more than I thought it would. BAK is junk in my book.

Oh man that stinks! My Rugged Cover II leaks a LITTLE right at where one of the seems are because the foam doesn't sit all the way down on the truck bed due to the design on the plastic. I will say I am not a fan of the latch down system it has because its basically a screw. You have to turn it one way when you unlatch it and turn it again to latch it... well the problem comes when you turn the latch to lock it back down and don't remember the way you turned it before your basically unscrewing or over tightening your cover. Yes its a tad bit more secure cause there is no draw string that can be pulled while the bed is closed but its just annoying... My next cover assuming ill need another ill have to do a bit more research lol

No way Toyota OEM is going to allow Rugged2 logo. Dealer may have sold the cover but definitely not OEM. The Toyota cover on KnuckleHD 's truck is the same as mine bought in Richmond Va. I have to say.. I loved that cover. Easy on and off. The water catch drain rails truly worked well. Sadly, had the top off and had a tree branch fall into truck damaging the side mounting rail. Now I am searching for a replacement rail. Toyota parts doesn't show a replacement. So not going to buy a whole new unit. Searching for OEM provider. Looked hard at Extang, BAK and close but no cigar.... The search goes on.

Southeast Toyota sells the Rugged 2, with Rugged 2 logo, as their OEM. I still have the Toyota instructions that came with it.

Edit: I do like the built in LEDs that came with the Rugged.
