I’m actually in the same boat, I have offers from carvana and Carmax, and then vroom is $2k over them, I’m going to give the dealer a chance to at least meet the lower two offers and go from there, as with the dealer offer it’ll deduct from the new truck purchase and lower the purchase tax by roughly $2k on top of the trade in value.

I’m literally in the same exact spot. Dealer giving 10k for my Camry while vroom is 12k.

What is your sales tax in your state?

You will come out ahead by selling with that spread. Even if sales tax is 10% you will be ahead selling to Vroom. If they give you $10k trade then you will save another $1k at 10% tax rate or $11k. Vroom is at $12k so I would go that route.

Where is the railyard for you? I'm curious where the "Port" is as well? Where are the accessories installed? I'm sure it's different by region.

rail yards are in Cincinnati, dealer is in Louisville.
I think the "port" is right outside the plant in San Antone.

Ah, so the port installed accessories are put on prior to loading on the railcar? I was just told that my railyard is somewhere upstate NY for the Philly region. Thx.

I think Mike may be correct. My truck had one mile on the odometer when I got it. That doesn't leave much room for dyno testing, driving it to the on site rail loading facility, off loading from the rail car and on to the semi and in and out of the dealers service bay. If it went to another facility for port installed options that mileage may be higher. Just my thoughts on this.

Maybe I got lucky, I didn't have to wait months to get my truck. Ordered, 08/20, got my truck 09/02. Nothing fancy added though, just an SR5 Trail Edition.

You sure did. Mine took 27 days after production to be delivered to the dealer. I'm sure mine had to be handed off to at least one other RR before being offloaded for trucking to the dealership.

oh wow that's crazy! my dealer also told me they have first dibs on all orders in my state. They are pretty big here in Vegas. so maybe that helped?

I'm pretty sure the UP handed my truck off to CSX and they took it to Cincinnati to be put on a semi. CSX still hadn't recovered from the E. Hunter Harrison days. Add to that a shortage of truckers and I'm lucky to have my SR5 in my driveway.

Port is not located in San Antonio…..my truck came through Gulf States Toyota, which is the port located in Houston, Tx. This port services Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. There is a port in Jacksonville, Fl which services the states along the gulf coast from Alabama to Fl….maybe Ga. The only item installed outside of the factory in San Antonio is the factory spray in liner. If your spray in liner has “Tundra” embossed in the front wall, it was installed at the factory, if it does not, it was a port option or the dealer had it installed. I am sure there are other ports throughout the country, these are the two I am familiar with.

Dyno testing? Do you believe that all Tundra's are dyno tested? That would be quite harmful to a brand new not broken in yet engine. They are probably transported via car carrier to the rail yard from the factory. Maybe "the Port" is on site at the factory.

Truck finally made it to the dealership, took about 3 weeks, after a 1 week delay from production, so all around 2.5 months to delivery. Sadly since the bed liner was cut from the factory, I’m having to let them keep it till tomorrow afternoon to do the bed liner add on. But I already settled on a trade in deal for my Tacoma, and filled out all paperwork, so tomorrow I just need to swap keys and leave.

Dyno testing isn't alway balls to the run er till she blows testing.

Dyno was probably a poor choice of words on my part but each car is run on stationary rollers much like the dyno to test overall function prior to leaving the factory.

Yeah now I understand what you mean and probably adds half a mile to the odometer. I recall seeing such a roller device years ago at a Harley Davidson plant tour where at the end of the line each bike would be run thru the gears with light throttle up to about 55mph. Makes sense.
True dyno testing is to apply resistance to determine torque and horsepower. Very tough on engines.
