Hopefully that can be disabled if it's fake engine noise...

Maybe its simulated engine noise or maybe its recorded actual engine noise?

    Maybe from the V8!

90% of my driving is daily driving or trips etc with the family, but I also use it for towing a boat and hunting etc. I know towing is going to suck mpgs no matter what but if the 90% of my driving is done at a much lower mpg... saving $100 or more a month in gas would be nice. Not worth buying a commuter car as the insurance, taxes, and maintenance would wipe out any fuel savings.

Email I got from a dealer:

No confirmed date yet on the hybrids all they said is they well be released this coming year we don't even have pricing on them yet unfortunately.

I don't think any of these dealers have any idea when these trucks are shipping.

You are correct, they did not tell them too much at the Dealer Meeting Yesterday at all it seems.

    Many questions remain?

I think the big question here, for some anyway, is whether or not the fancy new Joy Stick mirror controller is backlit or not. Although, now that it's where it should have been all along, it may not be an issue.

I'm guessing it will be a taken directly from the Tacoma.

I" ve heard of this technology been used in luxury brands like BMW but it's really hard to believe that Toyota would use it in a Tundra.

Yea it does sound great for a ttv6 and that acceleration is darn good. Spinning the tires after takeoff probably around 2500rpm looks like we have a torque monster!!

I've always thought that was pretty dumb too. No one buys a full size truck if gas mileage is their main concern, but to say no one with a full size truck cares about gas mileage is asinine.

Considering Toyota's recent experiences with electronic programming issues (Tacoma Transmission) I will be curious to see how much if any Turbo lag the truck has at speed. (nothing you could detect on that lame test drive like the video) Once the media get their hands on it I am sure some of the non beholden to Toyota journalists will let us know if there is any issues there.

As well as any transmission programming issues. Squeaking out MPG's are what caused the issue in the Tacoma, I would be curious if we see that in the Tundra with the new transmission.

Hopefully they have learned a thing or two from the Tacoma experience, those issues really put a beating on that models reputation for a bit.

Maybe, I could be mistaken but I'm certain Ford uses it in their Ecoboost models, the 2nd gen Raptor had it.

Nissan did something similar. They have a corporate 7AT, my Infiniti with this transmission and the NA VQ37 can be annoying at times, the VQ37 wants to rev, but the 7AT wants to lug. Although not as bad as the new Tacoma, I can relate to how some people feel about the Tacoma.

However, that same 7AT in the Titan or TTV6 Q50 and Q60, with torquey engines, drives much better.

Most modern turbo vehicles I've driven have minimal lag, and boost hits hard and early at low revs, I'd be shocked if the new Tundra was laggy once underway. True the 10AT will shift early, but even at low revs the TTV6 should be ready with boost. SHOULD.

Toyota has used it in Lexus products for a while now, I think even the Lexus that has the V35A-FTS in it. Can't remember the model.

I never understood the desire for fake engine sounds. Either soundproof the cab so I don't hear anything, or let me hear what my actual engine is doing.

I had the exact same thought. That and the "million mile Tundras" not that the actual mileage isn't still quite and accomplishment.

while this looks cool on video and paper, it’s always been my opinion that if one cannot back a trailer, they should not be in a truck.

These systems won't prevent all other kinds of bad things from happening, like hitting the boat dock, low hanging branches, pushing trailer into fixed objects.
It's best to really know what you're doing when towing, and being able to back up demonstrates some of the necessary skill needed.

How does one learn to back a trailer if they can't get in a truck?
