And....this whole forum is a small % of the buyers that will buy a Tundra.

I'm on the fence about the hybrid. I really don't like the pedestrian alert system in the Ford. Will prob just get the limited. Wish my dealer would let me give the deposit, but apparently I'm at the top of the list. Just waiting for the dealer to get their allocation so we can go forward.

Hopefully they can at least use the computer to calculate the fuel mileage while they are driving them around. Not sure how much they actually get to drive them if it's out on the highway or just on a small test track, but maybe they can get an idea of the mileage.

My current truck gets poor mpgs just like the Tundra.
Years ago I discovered that even if I revved it out to somewhere around 4k rpms in spirited driving, I obtained the same mpgs per tank as if I lugged the truck at low revs.

I hate that argument, just because I have use for a big truck doesn't mean I want to waste money on gas. If the new Tundra gets 5-10 mpgs more than more current truck than that is just extra money in my pocket that I can use. I'm not going to buy a new truck in order to get better gas mileage, but if my next truck gets 25 mpgs instead of the 14 I get now, that would save me an $150-200 a month at times which would be very nice. That would go a long way towards a boat or atv payment.

I'm on the fence too. I'm only interested in the power figures, but a part of me hopes the non-hybrid drives well enough that I can forego it.

Don’t know why so many are getting all bent out of shape over the start/stop feature. It’s a non issue. Toyota has this in their non hybrid Highlanders and it works very smooth. Also, it does not always turn off the motor. If the AC is at a certain level or defroster is on or hybrid batters are less than a certain level, the motor will not shut off. Also, the operator has to push hard on the brake for it to turn off. A normal break stop willl not turn it off, Now hybrids are designed to do exactly this. The ICE does not kick in generally until speed is 5-10 mph. This the nature of hybrids. Toyota has mastered the hybrid concept and know exactly what they are doing.

Definitely not bad guy. Fiscal planning is important and if you can do it, it speaks volumes to your planning skills. How did you put money down if you don't know the price of the truck? That hasn't been released yet.

The batteries are at least warranted for 8 yr/ 100k miles by law so should alleviate some hybrid woes.

I made a $500 (fully refundable) deposit at my local dealer. That holds my place in line to be able to place my order when ordering becomes available. When I place my order that $500 will be applied as a deposit on the order.

I have a boat that I tow 75 - 80 days a year. My gas mileage sucks whether or not I have a tweeted out v6 or an NA v8. If you do "truck" things with your truck you will not get pretty MPG. Nobody can engineer around that fact. The Gen 3 is for mall crawling to get the good MPGs. I can't think of the last time I went through a tank of gas that did not include a fishing trip towing a boat. If I didn't tow a boat I would not own a truck.

I am not making an argument. I'm just stating that for my situation the TTv6 makes no difference. If you buy the toys you mentioned, expect the reality I put up.

Many people daily drive their truck.
I don't, it's only used for "truck" reasons. Current truck only gets 5k/yr, so the mpgs matter very little.

When I do use it to tow, it gets the same mpgs as any new half ton.

Isn't using a 1/2 Ton truck as a daily driver a waste of money?

Just kidding. Must be nice to afford a truck for a daily driver and never do truck stuff.:)

He told him to floor it. If he floored it and it didn't screech the tires, I'd be concerned too.

Evidently they have 4 of them all Crews in an enclosed course to test drive them. 2 TRD-Pro,a Limited and an SR!
No other details really aside from what I said before but he is going to call me back after his turn if he sticks with it through the line which I give even odds on honestly.
He just does not care that much and is only in line for me I think.

    To me, yes.
But some people balk at also owning a more appropriate car for daily driving.

In my case, I like the Limited with TRD, but to save some money I'd choose a SR5 with TRD, and then go buy something like a used Infiniti (good car, low resale) that'd be about the same overall cost as a higher trim truck alone.

I also like having different types of vehicles in my driveway to drive.

I can floor my tundra all I want, its doesn't break shit loose.

I bet with the 479 @ 2,400 (assuming thats right) through the 10-speed, it will dust our 5.7s.

they can really do some things with gearing with that many clogs.

It spun the tires after it was already under way after a full traction start. More impressive than spinning them from a start.

I have owned turbo cars before, if they start spinning tires after a clean start, they usually pull pretty hard while in boost.

My friend at the dealer a salesman just called. Seems Toyota paid to have two people come down and tell them about the new Tundras?? LOL!! He told me the whole sales team was not happy about the presentation! They were told about the tail pipe now will come out on the drivers side, they worked on the inside of the cab and rear window to help prevent dust and stuff coming in when the rear window is down, and just a bunch of blah blah blah!! They were upset because they were not told anything differently than what has been shown on the innerweb. There is no word on prices, no time as to when they can take orders and no time on when the new Tundras will be showing up on the lots!!!! LOL!!!!:)

That video posted of the test drive shows the driver in a limited, another limited/ platinum/ 1794, a SR or SR5 and no pro, but could be out on the course.

I think it was said in videos that Toyota is augmenting the engine sound inside the cab, so we might have to wait for an external recording to determine how good the new engine will sound.
