i would highly doubt Toyota would post numbers above actual mileage. Seems it would be a first for Toyota if they did anyway. 20mpg highway would be good to me. Anything less will be a little disappointing but not a deal breaker.

As long as you're not towing anything that's great, but while towing the mileage is likely going to drop significantly just like the Ecoboost experiences.......

I am assuming the same thing. I assume this because why would a certain model be held up but the powertrain is available in December.

It must be the TRD Pro lightbar holding it up . :monocle:

Not sure why you obsess over blank switches. They can and are used for additional accessories. My GX has 3 blanks and I have used them for auxiliary lights and air compressor. Beats the shit out of blank panels or having to cut holes.

I love your optimism— sorry to say, not a chance. If they engineered it to only operate when it’s absolutely convenient to the driver, why do they give you the switch?

It will operate unless you toggle it off. Driving for hours with it toggled off? You stop to get gas, start up the truck and will have to toggle it off *again*

Here’s when it’s really annoying— you pull into the driveway, come to a stop and before you can shift to park it shuts off. It will restart the engine just to shift to park.

It’s has been really interesting (as a member of the middle 80%) to see the two ends of the spectrum come alive on the forum. (This is not directed at you Jerry, I just don’t want to do multiple posts) on the one side are people who HATE the new truck so much they are picking it apart bit by bit, and on the other are those so enamored with the new truck they are already making excuses and wild a$$ assumptions (“oh they’ll fix [insert major shortcoming here] before it goes to production”… in two months?? Materials? Yes they’ll upgrade here and there— major features? No way, pal…keep wishing)

I’m a little bummed and I can admit it. I was expecting a world beater, that’s what they promised. This is a world “tie’er” in my humble opinion. Maybe it’s the American in me, a tie just isn’t satisfying.

I LOVE some of the features, and yeah I’m going to be jealous when I see a new Tundra pull up with a pano-sunroof but I don’t really buy sunroofs with a truck attached… the moves they made to boost MPG aren’t worth the trade off to me. (And here’s the dirty little secret, those gains are going to disappear as soon as people modify their trucks)

I’m not mad at Toyota, I was hopeful they would make me regret buying a ‘21 and build a truck that offered the increase in capability and delivered the world beater title we were promised. (realistically theres nothing stopping me from upgrading if they did so, folks on here acting like “oh look at all these dumb bastards that are stuck with their ‘21’s.. bet they’re salty because they picked the wrong life-long truck” I’d be thrilled to park a world beater from Toyota right next to my ‘21 in the driveway)

The one in my GMC doesn't stop the engine if you have the AC on high enough... so yes... there is a chance.

I think some stock blanks like the F150 Tremor upfitter switches would have been sweet.

I really like the look of the new Tundra with these small changes to the front grille and the rear tail lights. What do you guys think??? Video starts right after he makes the edits @09:42.

I can see that, there’s scenarios where ours are disabled automatically e.g. the engine hasn’t been running long enough, a heavy draw on the battery, etc.

From your experience, do you find that the programming that disables the auto off during max AC stops you from disabling the auto off? (Using the switch)

Im not a big MPG guy, I would have rather they went with a 6.2 I-Force V8.

that said, if I buy a new tundra and got real world 18-19 that would be a HUGE improvement, I get 12-13 city and maybe 15 highway so that would be a big leap

lets not even talk about winter blend and my 5.7 lol.

Also, are you moving to the new Tundra from the GMC? It’s looking like my next truck will be a a GMC HD (probably) however if you’re dumping the diesel GMC for the ‘22 tundra might change my perceived performance/value of those trucks.

I use the switch anyway when I start up the vehicle (unless I forget) due to it being a diesel and from what I have read it is not good to stop and start a diesel , I always wondered why GM would put it on a diesel.

With my Toyota hybrids they start on electric power and then the engine just fires. Sort of like the old roll/pop start on a manual transmission. The starter does not engage. It’s very seemless. I’ve been in vehicles with auto start and stop and it does indeed seem annoying.

Agreed. I was hoping they’d go with a bigger 6.2L and then tune it to get higher mileage, or steal that 5.0L from Lexus and do what’s necessary to make it suitable. Hell, I know of a few guys that drive 6.2L GMC’s and get 20-22 MPG. I think the twin turbo route is partly a marketing move to stay in the conversation with Ford.

In the video he specifically said 4 hours at max load so 12,000 lbs towing.

Someone else was asking about the GMC 3.0 Diesel in a private message... below is what I replied to him with. I don't think GM is having as many issues with the big boy duramax, it seems to be mainly the baby duramax the 5.3 and the 6.2. (Gassers with the lifters failing).

    ========================================================================================
The engine is good, I have not towed anything with it yet, but everyone says that the towing ability is understated by GM. The fuel mileage is great too, traveling from Alabama to Arkansas I got about 35 MPG.

There are a few things that I don't like. There is a widespread issue where when you press the start button (either in the truck, from key fob, or app) the engine will crank and crank for 30+ seconds and not start. It is very random and no telling when it will happen to you. GM has not officially admitted to it happening, but they have released some service bulletins that hint at the issue. One of them is removing the entire cab of the truck to access the back of the engine to replace something that might be coming in contact with the timing chain... they state that this will be a minimum of 50 hours of labor. Several people have had their trucks in the shop for 30+ days due to this. A LOT of people have had to contact a lemon law lawyer to get GM to purchase the truck back. I just broke 7K miles on my truck, this issue has happened to me 3 times (first one was with about 300 miles on the truck). Several people on the GM forums say it happens weekly with them.

My transmission is starting to act up, it is shifting very harsh from first to second, and second to third. I baby the truck too so I know it is not due to abuse.

There are panel gaps everywhere (body and interior) which makes me wonder about the quality especially on a $68K truck (MSRP of my truck).

When I got the truck the bolts inside the fuse box in the engine bay were way out of spec, they are supposed to be 53 in-lb and mine were less than 30 (this was discovered as a possible solution for the long crank no start, which wound up not being the solution). But this makes me wonder what else might not be in spec.

I was always waiting for the new Tundra but I got impatient and had to get out of my Lexus sedan, and at the time this truck was the only thing available in my area. So even without these issues I would have been getting the new Tundra.

For the tundra I’m about in the same boat. I’m around 11-12 on my daily commute and I’m the 15-16 range on highway trips.

The only real complaint I have with my current Titan XD is the 26-gallon fuel tank.....

ya I was really hoping they went with a 6.2 iforce, maybe 425hp, 475 lbs. 15-16 city, 19-20 highway.

Then throw a borla on that and hear it PHUCKIN rumble.

now I get a high power sewer machine, lol. I guess thats the way it is.

although, I still have not taken the 6.2 AT4 off the list with the updated interior to be released in first quarter if this tundra drives and sounds lame.

Yep I’ve noticed around a 1-2 MPG drop in winter time. Otherwise it doesn’t seem to matter where I get my gas or what kind it is I always am around the same MPG. My old Subaru STI did much better on 91 octane non ethanol and that’s about the only car I’ve ever noticed a difference in

Yep 8-10 MPG for gas...big block V8 or TT V6, it doesn't really matter when towing as far as fuel mileage is concerned.

I must have really lucked up in mine.
My computer fuel mileage number is really close Everytime I check it. +/- .3 mpg

When the truck idles a good bit,my tank averages are around 14. When I don't idle I easily get 15.5 - 17 average for the tank.

The truck has been on a few road trips, the longest of which was from TN to FL and back, about 1800 miles in total. Got over 18 for the whole trip on new tires (33" instead of factory 31.9").

I watch the TFL gauntlet towing tests, and often the normal V8s, even the ones that guzzle gas unloaded (Nissan Titan is a good example) get slightly better towing mpgs than the Ford TTV6 and EB trucks. However, those TTV6 trucks are far calmer and tow far more confidently than any of the V8s, I'd take that over the slight mpg advantage of the V8s.

It surprised me that the V8s do slightly better considering how much they struggle!
