I think no one is disputing naturally aspirated V8 is MORE reliable. This doesn't mean V6TT is NOT reliable.

I had a 1987 Buick Grand National Turbo. Fast and fun but nothing like my 1970 Chevelle 396 V8. It was like a Hoover vacuum vs. Old School immediate seat of the pants torque when you hit it. Before buying the 21 Tundra V8 I test drove all the other turbo 6 versions from GM, Ford etc. Glad I settled on the V8!

I wonder why Toyota decided not to offer the V8 as an option. GM, Ford and Ram all offer a V8 as an option and GM offers two V8’s.

Honestly surprised this discussion is still unlocked. One side wants to have a pity party, but the other side wants to piss on them and call it rain. Toyota owners are a loyal group for many various reasons. I'm old enough to remember my 97 4Runner going 0-60 in 14 seconds. The 5.7 Tundra is a different beast all together but still has the historical Toyota quality.
I don't think ANY Toyota loyalist would complain if the 2022 Tundra came with a refreshed 2JZ-GTTE

I have seen no complaints on it, mine is tight as a drum but it's new.

You can't judge the reliability of something that hasn't even been released yet... lol

I think the mileage difference under load is not that different.
    You can't change physics.
It takes X amount of fuel / air mixture to make X amount of HP.
It comes down to reliability under load

But honestly... if you really have that much load, you should be stepping up to a bigger truck. 1/2 ton is called "light duty" for a reason.

I think you misunderstood me, we were talking about the V8 and the expected life of 400k miles. That's huge in a world where the big project a 200k mile life span.

Actually you can come quite close using historical data but, I think the V 6 ers are going to baby there blown minis for sometime.
I'm interested to see if any firm buys fleet quantities of these V6 ers.

But you touted that as a reason to pay the extra fuel cost over the TTV6 of the new generation. That implies that you believe that the V8 will have a much greater reliability then the TTV6. And maybe you're right, but we won't know until we have empirical evidence to back it up. That's all I'm saying

The fuel savings will not be as big as you think they are. The Ecoboost for example doesn't get anywhere near the advertised mileage unless you're doing 55mph and gently nursing the throttle. Toyota may be similar.

And that's possible... History is not in your favor because Toyota doesn't tend to exaggerate their numbers like Ford and others, but time will tell.

But, knowing people like my 68 years on earth have shown me, they will and pick ups get abused specially in other countries.

I’m in the mood to nurse the fire…

All these folks out here upset about how they are going to lose the Tundra reliability with the new V6…
…but they are currently on their way back from the dealership after having the cam tower seals replaced…
