Just a guess but mpg combined is 22mpg on base engine and 28mpg on the hybrid, this is based off of the 2022 land cruiser Which has the same engine and same platform. Base price will be 37,069 and top trims will be in the upper 50k probably breaking the 60k mark.

    Just signed up today! :bananadance:

As a 2018 Tundra Limited owner think I am going to make the plunge. I currently own the Inferno color and I really like the orange in the TRD pro but doubt it will be available in anything else. Hope I am wrong.

I am really wondering about fuel economy. The Lexus LS500 3.5L twin turbo gets like 20 city/30 highway. I know it will be a different beast in the Tundra. Guessing the non hybrid will get around 18 city/23 highway but the hybrid will be around 24-25 combined right around what the Ford Powerboost gets.

all good and dandy but the configuration of the LC and Tundra are completely different. the engine specs are completely different. the LC makes more hp but less torque than the Tundra engine and the transmission is different so it wont be a lateral comparison.

good example is the old tacoma v6 4.0L vs the 4runner 4.0L. same engine but different output and mpg.

    4.0L tacoma v6
    236hp @ 5200 rpm
    266ftlbs @ 4000 rpm
    17/21 mpg

    4.0L 4runner v6
    270hp @ 5600 rpm
    278ftlbs @ 4400 rpm
    17/22 mpg

comparing our 2012 tacoma v6 to my 2014 4runner OUR avg we not close to the specs of mpg

    2012 tacoma
    avg mpg : 14.2 mpg
min mpg : 8.1 mpg (that was pulling a 5x8 uhual to/from Minneapolis)
    max mpg 19.5 mpg

this was over 124 fuel ups

    2014 4runner
    avg mpg : 16.6 mpg
min mpg : 10.7 (that was pulling a 6x12 uhaul trailer from ga, other time was with the tundra)
    max mpg : 24.6 mpg

this was over 271 fuel ups

its a good baseline to speculate from but i wouldnt be surprised the numbers are lower by a few mpg on city and highway.

I wonder how the retractable air dam will affect aftermarket bumpers.

I wonder if that underseat storage bucket thing can be removed. It looks like the seat uses it for support. Would suck if we're stuck with it.
First thing I did in my 16 was rip that stupid plastic box out of there, much more space without it, plus easier to slide things under instead of unbuckling car seats.

Agreed, that's one of my issues with underseat storage as well. I'm not going to take out two car seats just to access it. The only time I take out the car seats is if I am vacuuming the vehicle.

I wonder if the digital mirror will be available as a dealer option if you don't get the platinum. I hope so...

Seems about right. In almost every vehicle I have personally owned and tracked gas mileage I’ve gotten around 1-3 MPG less than what is stated for the EPA ratings.

I was thinking the same. With just looking at the videos, that box seems to be the support for the seat. Not an intelligent design.

Yes. Happened to my nephew who was hauling his power washing rig with a half ton Chevy. Car pulled right into his path and he hit them in the door. Killed driver and passenger. (55mph). Family filed suit and his insurance, State Farm, settled for $50k. Completely not his fault and was considered unavoidable.
Happens to commercial rigs all the time.

actually i am very happy with the 4runner. i am getting within 1 mpg of city 16 vs 17 and normally at or better on highway vs 21 (to/from work is 73 mph). too bad the tundra is horrible, 11 city vs 13 and 14-15 vs 17. think i only hit 17 once in the tundra, have to look at the fuelly logs.

A lot of this depends on fuel blends and driving habits. Some of these city blends (Dallas) knock 3mpg off my average. Around home, I usually best the EPA ratings but I drive "normal".

yeah ND has crap gas, i think ours comes from the canada sands compared to further south. i do know once i get out of ND my mpg goes up. could be a combo of less wind and better gas.

That is how reliability is obtained and maintained, but you have to kinda start over with a new generation vehicle, so pinnacle Tundra reliability is 2021 at the moment. 2022 has to earn its place so to speak, and a couple of years of ironing out little issues found or missed should earn its way back to the top.

Although usually Toyota starts out at a high bar, their manufacturing philosophy kind of says little improvements etc, so as time goes on the product gets better. So I think they will be cranking out some of their most solid tundras about 4-5 years in on this generation, could be earlier, the Tacoma was a little earlier, but they really didn't change as much on the tacoma as the tundra so it may take a couple of more years.

The Grand Wagoneer is back, and with it, the less expensive—yet still luxurious—Wagoneer. For the base trim level, or Series I, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer costs $59,995, and starting prices reach up to $74,995 for Series III trim, the highest trim offered on the Wagoneer. The middle trim, or Series II, costs $69,995.
    \
Their website has the MSRP starting at around 69K which is still kinda online with top line Tahoes/Expo's

The Base series trim is actually a decent price compared to the Tahoe, Expo, even Sequoia. You probably saw the limited edition blah blah they are rolling out that start's over 100K

I really like this new truck but do not see enough of a payload increase to make me want to buy it. If i was not towing i would jump on it but it looks like my next truck will have to come from the big 3.

This powertrain has been in production for some time now and tested before releasing into production. My opinion, but this drivetrain was just pulled from other platforms and engineered to work best in the Tundra.

I really don't think we will see a smoking gun with common failures. That's the domestics department in this segment.

On the auto start/stop feature that is on the left side panel but I swore looking on the hybrid verison the "A" logo button is not there. Am I seeing things? Look at 9:05 of this video of the hybrid

I saw that too, so its either really good news, (no start stop on hybrid), or really bad news, no disable switch

if its there but you cant disable it on the hybrid, that will further push me out of the hybrid along with the no storage, extra costs, etc.

They probably figured they could trim the size of the fuel tank b/c of the increased efficiencies in MPG. I'd agree with their assessment.

I've only been in a hybrid one time and it was a Prius, but it seemed like it shut off the engine anytime it could, but then it was able to instantaneously accelerate because of the electric motor. You don't have to wait the second for the motor to restart in order to start moving. In some cases depending on how hard you are accelerating, the ICE may not even start up until you are going 10 mph or more.
