I had to shoot my last cat earlier this year. His health was failing and he panicked so bad in a carrier that it was kinder to just take him out in the back yard on a blanket. Aside from how it came about, I'm actually enjoying not having a cat. I'll be investing in mouse traps to be sure, but I don't miss the litter box or the BS about going inside or outside, or inside, or outside.

Kudos to you that can give them loving homes, as they certainly deserve it, but I always wind up with the "Don't touch me, slave. You are here to open the door and provide food. Fuck your desire for companionship, peasant" kind of cats.

I’m a total cat lady, but to be honest I’m kinda done with cats right now, maybe in 20 years, but not right now.
All of ours are inside cats, out here they are coyote food if they go outside; it’s nit if, but when. And that’s pretty shitty to hear or then later to find your little buddy, or parts of him in the alley or wash. My big boy Ringo got out for 8 nights 6 years back, I thought he was done for because he’s a stupid inside cat! My brother in law saw him late one night across a big street from our house and called us; I was super drunk and in shambles and I thought I was dreaming or they were messing with me when they brought him back.

Sadly, not kidding. Had to be done for him. Made him as comfortable as possible and he never knew what happened. It was for the best, as he was old and we were fairly sure he ingested poison.

Yeah, I can't be trying to police the entry for a cat. Always had indoor/outdoor cats, and they are happy as hell. Probably plays into their asshat attitudes as well. They are more independent. We have hawks, owls, eagles, coyotes, 'coons, foxes and the rare coyote or cougar that could get a cat, but the biggest danger is the road. Smart cats do well, but the skittish ones that try to bolt at the last minute don't last long where I live.

Nope! Off limits along with the table. Anywhere food will ever be, a cat is not allowed. They are welcome on the furniture as long as they don't claw it up, but the tables and counters are a hell no.
