I’m tapped out. I need to finish the 1998 ,01 and 02 tacos. And this mr2. Not to mention a VERY incomplete fj40 and a ancient Mercedes

 

I’ve only seen one (mine) early 1st gen with grey interior. It’s a PITA honestly, no matter how much better they look.

 

Most are brown?

Mine is grey. It could use some additional cleaning, that's for sure. My buddy wasn't overly delicate with it. I didn't realize it was less common, my 2000 Tacoma was the same interior color.

I kind of prefer darker plastic really.

My carpet looks a lot better after the detail though. I'm excited to see how the seats look if my katzkin ever shows up...

 

I just can’t stand the old man tan, it really clashes with the cement grey. The black stuff isn’t holding up

 

Have you ever thought about just dyeing your current upholstery?

Camshaft sensor package is delayed. Lol

Need to go through this thread, and update the directory. Make another directory for pics and then another directory for repairs.

Thoughts?

 

I keep wondering when the sensor will show up, but still delayed. Going through my reinstall in my brain step by step, I keep coming back up to the same problem...

When we called it quits we pretty much shoved everything in the cab of the truck. Bolts are probably scattered by now, and will require help or reverse thought experiments to find correct homes.

 

Zip lock bags and sharpies are pretty cheap ya know lol.

 

Keep a beer box to doodle patterns if a part has different length bolts or a wonky order of reassembly.

I'll definitely remember this lesson in the future. See if I can rewatch the removal videos and ascertain what looks like what. Think the dude says bolt head sizes as he takes everything apart. Can use that as Identification sorta...

Looks like the white clip has to come out some how. It acts like a retainer I'm guessing.

 

Exactly and a jeweler screw driver works wonders. Once you get a conductor out, you'll see the catch you are attempting to release.

 

Thanks for this. I Fiddled with the old one, and finally got it on the 4th tool try. My braided wire shield was too narrow for the pins to slide through so I wrapped the new one up like a mummy of self vulc tape.

Installed the new one, and then attempted instal of the new timing belt.

Started in the drivers side cam. Went down to the crank at the bottom. Removed the tensioner pulley to help get the belt on the pass side cam. While tugging on the belt, the driver side cam went 25% around the circle towards the inside of the engine. Timing mark on cam facing immediate left.

Tried to spin it back by hand, but no love. Grabbed a 17mm. Slowly moved it back to the timing mark, and then it jumped the other 25% towards the outside of the engine. Timing mark on cam facing immediate right.

Slowly got it spun back to the timing mark again, and it stayed that time.

Proceeded with belt install. This is where it ended up. Couldn't see the timing mark on the crank till after I took the picture. My heart sank that it wasn't dead on.

I may have the belt on backwards. I'm tired. Work was brutal last night.

2003 Tundra 4.7 timing belt gone wrong

 

One trick I use a lot is to zip tie the belt to the pulley as I go around. I set the passenger side cam to TDC, install the belt and zip tie it in place. Do the same on the drivers side, being sure all of the slack is out of the belt. When its snug and the marks line up, zip tie that one as well. Pull the belt tight and get it on the crankshaft. Slipping it over the tensioner is the last stop. It will be really tight but you will be able to squeeze it on. Pull the pin on the tensioner and remember to snip the zip ties before you rotate the engine to check your work. You can't do the zip tie trick on a 2005-2006 because the VVT cam pulleys are solid, but you should be able to on yours. As you go around with the belt, be sure the slack builds up on the tensioner side so you don't wind up a tooth off somewhere. You'll get it.

 

The white plastic part is called a TPA which stands for terminal position assurance. Its job is to lock the tabs in place so the terminal does not release when plugged in.
