I assume the sound is down inside the door card? Almost sounds like the gears are slipping a tooth because of too much force? Can't you reset the auto windows (yours has that right?) by holding the button down a few seconds after the window is all the way down and then holding it up after the window is all the way up times 5times...

 

I put my ear on the door card. Sound is definitely coming from above my head, somewhere at the level of the rear view mirror upward. Doesn't sound like it's inside the door itself.

The way I described it to one of my local Toyota friends was "it's almost like the window gearing skipped a tooth and is trying to roll up the window one notch too far".

I also don't think it's a smash waiting to happen, but if so ... problem solved?

 

exactly what I thought and that's why I talked about 'resetting' the regulator. Still very weird though. I wonder if something is on the track that the window slide has to jump over now to get all the way up? May be a good idea to take the card off and have an peek at the track if possible

 

I looked up a couple of videos about resetting the regulator and followed the actions, no change. I couldn't see any realistic feedback you got from the process of resetting, though.

Yeah. I've watched virtually every 'highlander noise' video on YT at this point with zero joy, including that one. I think I just need to break down and spend a couple hours pulling the door card and dicking around inside the door, but I really hoped someone would see this and be like, "oh yeah, that's just the doohickey making the thingamabob jibberjam, and you need to tighten the doohickey on the whatchamacallit, then have a beer for an hour and lie about how difficult it was"

 

I was under my truck and noticed 2 of the 3 nuts holding the cats to the exhaust manifold were partway backed off (one was 1-2 threads, the other was 4-5). When I went to tighten them the studs snapped off.

They weren't even really rusty or anything. Still no exhaust leak. Gonna have to fix it eventually tho.

Headphones maybe help. The sound is almost like a mix between slapping a flat plastic ruler on a stone countertop and cracking a leather belt. If you mixed those two sounds, you basically have it in a nutshell.

 

no pics, but last night I got my second set of BD squadron sports installed.

the wife and I are headed down to Franklin TN for a wedding a 3 weeks, and are going to tag a little "overlanding" trip to the back end of it. It will be our first time wit this style of setup.

Any tips and tricks from the seasoned veterans?
Any must-have gear that isn't so obvious?

 

Dang son, 900 mile trip? I like it. Middle TN doesn't seem to have a ton of off-road trails but I'm sure you can find some. I was going to suggest that creepy tunnel I've posted but it's 3 hours east in Wartburg, TN. It looks like you will be passing through Land Between the Lakes(LBL) which is a popular destination in that area for wheeling and exploring. Let me know if you are wanting to stay close to Nashville or not and I can try to make recommendations.

Are you camping in the truck or just out exploring? I would make sure you have some recovery gear but I'm 99% certain you won't need it. First aid kit has been something I was glad I had more than once. Air compressor not a bad idea either.

 

yep, about 920 miles to Franklin. I was planning to head a little further east and hit the Cherokee National forest and snag a dispersed camp site. there seems to be a ton of stuff there. We'll be camping out of the truck, but we'll bring a tent in case that gets too tight. I have a first aid kit and portable air compressor.

I'll have a tow strap and shackles, and a come-along for recovery gear, as well as a high-lift jack, shovel, and other camping tools. Not looking to get too crazy as I'll need to make it 1000 miles home after this adventure.

 

That's exactly where I was going to recommend. That area or Big South Fork are our favorites. Almost all my pictures are from the Tellico area. Witt Rd has 5-6 water crossings if that's something you want to do. You can do it all in 2WD if you wanted to. Conasauga Falls is off that road and worth seeing. Bald River Falls is nice but very popular so may be crowded. Citico Creek is where we typically camp. Message me if you want more suggestions.

Wally-world has nice 6-gallon Igloo water jugs with two handles for $15. I picked me up two and stick one behind each front seat.

a game changer for me for camping has been buying wet wipes. For cleaning dishes and yourself. Oh and I use a pee bucket so I dont have to get out of the truck in the middle of the night, haha

 

I need to make a product called Easy Pee-Z or something. You can slap it on your dong and run a hose out side, then just lay there and pee or something. But then again, people lazy enough to use that may also be too lazy to spend the money on it, or even too lazy to make the money to spend the money on it.

How do you take a leak when you're desert racing? Drill a hole in the floorboard and run a condom cath out of your pants and down.

Yes it's a thing and I wasn't the only one that used one either. It still feels like you piss yourself though because the tube runs down your leg. And it's weird to be hitting bumps and taking hard corners while trying to pee.

Got my shock mounts cut. Looks like I won't get the shocks on this weekend so oh well...one of these days. That's what I've been saying for 2 years now.

 

About 24 hours lol. I wasn't going to do it this soon but an appointment didn't show, so I figured why not.



I also have no idea if the remains of the studs will snap again whenever I try to remove these. But it'll hold for now and I feel better that it's not being held by only one stud.

 

How does the Rust-Oleum holding up? Any sun fade, peeling, or chipping?

 

It's only been 6 or so months but no issues yet. Keep in mind my truck is garage kept. That said, I've used that same paint to touch up my bumper and sliders and it holds up very well. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

 

You would contribute to truly lazy people who would wear that under their pants with the hose coming through their pant leg and just pee any time any place, even while walking.

Maybe they aren't lazy, maybe they're super productive and don't have time to stop and use a restroom.
