1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion

Simply lunch table humor on my part....dry humor I reckon. Did not think a texan would miss the joke....my bad !

 

I find the halogen headlights on my 06 DC are perfectly adequate. The 01 tundra and sequoia stock headlights were awful even with brighter bulbs. I may retroift the 06 at some point, but it's not as critical as it was on the other ones.

 

I never thought Texas was that bad for the heat at least in the hill country because of the low humidity. Going out at night is great because its cool and dry. Daytime though, you just want to hang in the shade.

 

I pretty much said that until I messed with projectors. My wife's cars didn't help with this. As soon as I had lighting more reminiscent to my wife's Mercedes I was hooked. The headlights were the only thing I miss from that car. Maybe the gas mileage that was slightly better than the GX that replaced it.
I could really use some decent bumper lights though. I'm liking the newer chinesium options with cleaner cutoff than the regular no name LEDs that just make a circle of light that catches in mid air every particle of dust, rain, fog, and snow.

Yup. Which I honestly wouldn't mind, but when they get to this point, I can't send them back. And it never fails, they always get to this point because people leave their charging cables on their laptops 24/7, whether via dock or direct, so this inevitably starts to happen after 2-4 years of use.

 

Yeah. I don't like creating molten exploding fireballs. Crap like this is why there are battery restrictions on planes now. Battery situations like this have taken dozens of planes down over the last decade.

LEDs for fogs and heads lights not worth it. 9012 bulbs are a plug and play fog upgrade, just trim a tab on the bulbs. ~80% brighter with correct filament location and same power draw.

headlight harness with 100w halogens will destroy leds. But you need to swap a pin on the headlight switch or your fogs will cause issues.

this also effectively makes you fogs work independently from the heads. So they can be on without headlights or even High beam

 

Isn't the harness alone an upgrade?

I bough one but haven't installed it yet. Or the vision+ bulbs I got to go with them.

the harness indeed helps output a bit due to less voltage drop

I run the headlight solutions harness with a stock wattage performance bulb for now. My fog lights are 9012. Combine the light output is pretty damn stellar. High beam performance with the fogs still on is amazing as well

 

The problem is the fog light circuit gets its power from the high beam side of the headlights when the highs are off. When highs are on, the circuit becomes ground.

So if you take the pin from the switch and give it 12v ignition, the problem is solved and the fog lights will not affect the headlights any more

 

Cool. In my case I've already got a fog light mod that is diode isolated and is powered by both low and high beam circuit.

 

Nailed it. It's an iFixit toolkit. I found it forgotten on top of a rack in a datacenter I cleared out last year and the damn thing has been handy as hell. Had I realized how good the iFixit kits were for anything electronics and shop related, I'd have bought one many years ago. Totally worth the money considering what you get.

Yeah, more like 'let the fire out'. Just pulling these out is a dangerous task, you pop the wrapper and you may as well throw the system away because the whole thing is melting down

That's what pisses me off about this design from Apple. Like, you're going to use an uncontained 'slice' battery, that's cool and everything. But you know this thing is eventually going to swell b/c people are going to leave it plugged into the charger 24/7 So why in the hell would you GLUE each of the 6 packs directly into the chassis?

Idiocy. Glue it to a backplate, then use a couple fasteners to hold that into the chassis FFS. the two dowel rods with 20lb test monofilament I've found works really good to see-saw through the glue. Almost like debadging a car.

No concerns of plastic warp, fog, or other from added heat?
