It may just be me, but after spending the last 3 days binge watching/reading everything there is about the soon to arrive 2022 Tundra, it does appear to me that I may be able to convert my current Gen 2.5 Tundra to the Gen 3 (2022+) Tundra. Especially, so from an external perspective!

it doesn’t seem as if Toyota has revised the new 2022 model externally, where it will be totally impossible for me the convert my Gen 2.5 external components to that of the upcoming Gen 3. Plus, I believe that I may also be able to get some of the internal cab features converted as well. .

    What are your thoughts?

I'm just waiting to see if someone is going to try and take the new 6 lug wheel hubs and put them on the older models.

I highly doubt that anything externally is interchangeable between the 2.

I think the OE rear locker will be a hot commodity if the diff is same as current 10.5

It’s not that you fully know everything about the truck. But, comparing parts and looking at both trucks, your imagination strays to run.

That’s what people said about the Gen 2 and Gen 2.5. But, people were able to convert the two models eventually.

Toyota doesn’t believe in reinventing the wheel, as much as, they believe in improving it. So, I would be surprised if many of the parts weren’t interchangeable. In addition, I’m sure the aftermarket guys will go buck wild with conversion parts and interchangeable parts for the two.

On this topic, it would be interesting to see if bed dimensions changed too much for moving a Diamondback or other such bedcover over to the new Generation

I’m planning on buying this truck as soon as it is available. So, there are many things like the bedcover that you have mentioned, that I hope will be transferable.

By the time I upgrade, the Gen 4s will probably be out, but I’d hate to be that guy that’s upgrading and have to ditch the Diamondback due to a 1/2”

:rofl:I wouldn’t worry about the Gen 4 coming any time soon. Toyota doesn’t roll like that. The Gen 4 will probably come out 20+ years from now. Unlike my neighbor across the street who bought a brand new F150 a little over a year ago. Then Ford revised the truck the following month and his truck looks dated.:rofl:

That's because they're mechanically identical. The 3rd gen doesn't appear to share anything with the 2nd gen, and the fact they all have the 5 marker lights designating the truck as being wider than normal most likely means the body is physically wider than the gen 2, and obviously everything drivetrain and chassis wise is completely different. I doubt anything will swap over.

That maybe true. But, are you willing to bet your money on your statement?

Several years ago while station at Fort Hood Texas, while driving from base on the interstate state, a dude drove by me in a Yugo with Lexus badges and taillights. I almost shit myself laughing. So, nothing is impossible where automobiles are concerned.

You're not wrong, plenty of exotic sports cars that share parts from buses or other weird brands and components, so more weird part swaps have been done lol

I agree. I’ve seen the fake Bugatti made from a kit that was installed on a Mercury. Anything is possible.

There is not one single body panel that is even remotely the same. The bed is a composite bed and completely different. I would hate to know how much a new bed cost now? Every single light, mirror, windshield is completely different. You also have completely different frame so not way Gen 2.5 will even line up or mount without heavy modification.

Then there is drive line. Different engine, transmission brings on completely different wiring harnesses. Even the steering wheel is different.

The only thing I see possibly transferring over is 7, 9, 10, 12, 15, and 17mm bolts where used. Possibly wheel studs but you will be 4 short since new Tundra is 6-lug.

Rear axle does look really similar. With different mounting brackets welded on for the link suspension.

It literally would take you an appoint with Dave Kindig at Kindig-it design and about $300k (he is expensive) to take on a project like that. 3-4 year waiting list and $100k deposit required.....

I kid a lot, but I do not see much of anything that would translate over. Every body panel, bumper, lights have a completely different design to them. Your idea is basically same as taking a T100 and convert it to a 2021 TRD Pro.....

Not in this case. No way in hell. Total redesign. Radiator cap might be the same but prolly not. The 5.7L came with a 1.1 Kg/cm squared. The TRD cap is a 1.3 Kg/ cm squared. I recently put on the 1.3.

That’s what makes the anticipation for the new Tundra so exciting. Oh, and by the way, look at this kit made by McNeil. I guarantee you that they will be one of the first to make conversion kits for the 2022+.

And I ask you the same question that I’ve asked others in this thread, “are you willing to bet your money that no one will ever be able to make a conversion kit for the 2022+ model?

You stated to convert "the two models" . A huge difference from modifying a 2.0 to a 2.5. Seriously? And quite frankly McNeil's "kit" would be a joke here in Colorado. We aren't into the mall crawler look that would be worthless here...:thumbsup:We have mountains here. The only mountains in FL are overpasses. Everything else is flat...
