This Tundra is the nail in the coffin for half tons not being focused on working. The domestics made sense since they have HD trucks for those looking for something to use and abuse with tons of weight. Toyota is most likely smart to not play the in between game - sure looks like they went after the person looking for a daily driver that can haul the boat, ATV's and sleds, and entry level travel trailers.

And Toyota would be in much tougher to break into the HD market - HD buyers are far more brand loyal and they're already quite reliable since the half tons do the beta testing then it gets put in the HD trucks. Probably why they've stayed clear of the HD market.

I love the look of the 22. I want a hybrid model. SR5 Offroad or maybe the TRD Pro Won't get one right away but maybe in a couple of years. It needs to fit in my garage though. I will start saving my pennies, got two years to make this happen. We will what the market does then, not paying the insane prices we are seeing today.

Thanks man, you the real MVP! Any idea if those are base engines or hybrid versions? I assume they'd have different capacities.

I tried to start a new thread for this information to those who may be looking for it but the mods lumped it into this 500 page mess... Let's delete the 3rd gen forum and only use one thread full of random bullshit

This is great! I’m interested in the fuel capacity (in the bottom of the pic) if you’re willing and able to share!?

What's the payload on the new Rams with the coil springs? I thought those rode pretty well?

also, I wonder if the pano-sunroof is “standard” on any of these trims? If not… that’s got to be 200-300 deducted, right?

I am interested in the TRD Pro. I have a '21 Pro and am mainly concerned about towing. I will be towing a 5000 lb travel trailer when I go elk hunting in a couple of months so that will be the ultimate test (fairly steep up/down grades on highway and about 3000' climb to where we camp on gravel roads).

I figured the towing capacity of the '22's should be about proportionate to the 21's. If this is true, the Pro should be around 11,000 lbs. tow capacity. If my '21 doesn't perform well towing, that would probably be enough to convince me to trade it for the '22.

Maybe there are other factors I am not thinking of but logically, this sounds correct. Feel free to chime in if I am way off base however!

I have cig lighter adapters that look low profile, I prefer the cig lighter as that standard ain't changing, and you can put all kinds of adapters there

I'd look, but without a VIN of one, Ram is by far the worst manufacturer to look up information. And don't even attempt the Canadian website, I always go to the American one.

Ram 2500's have coils too, so it's not that they can't have good payload, it's all about the tuning. A Ram 2500 rides similarly to a current Tundra. And it's not like leafs can't be soft, the F150 is a prime example. The trick is finding the balance with the progressive springs and proper shock tuning. F150 is soft but so disconnected - Tundra was harsh but very connected. Combo of the 2 is what they're targeting I'm sure - connected but soft

we have a 2017 Ford F-150 Lariat with 5.0 at work that is crew cab short bed. It is a loaded Lariat with sunroof, etc..... it has a payload sticker of 1,560. King Ranch and Platinum is less even newer trucks.

If you get a new PowerBoost in an upper trim you are looking at about 1,350.

There is a thread on the Ford forums about the PowerBoost payload numbers and people posting their stickers when it first came out.

All of the upper trim Fords are 1,500 or less. They tease you with regular cab, 2wd, short bed with max tow package to get that 2,600 pounds they claim.

In the grand scheme of things, Fords payload in comparable trucks to Limited/Platinum/1794 are only about 200 pounds better.

F-150s also have frame choices and axle (not talking about gearing) choices for certain trims.
I was looking at a F-150 and my head was spinning. Basically you need a certain model and add the heavy duty frame to get that really high payload.

And the PB can't be optioned with the heavy duty frame

    Wo let's put 2 and 2 together.....

Toyota currently sell any where between 90k-125k when the Tundra was first released.

So 18k per month just of the base engine equals 216k annually, not counting hybrid variations it sounds.

So Toyota is going to sell about 250k Tundras a year.......

You are correct. And if memory serves it is only in XL or XLT trim with 3.5 ecoboost that you can add the heavy duty package if memory serves. Let me find that package on Fords site, now I am curious again.

Have no clue, I was just quoting the article that said Toyota is basically putting $300 million in an Alabama plant to make 18k of the base engine per month.

Just my humble opinion, but if Toyota manages to sell 75k next year that would be a miracle in this environment.

Max payload for a bare bones 2.5gen SR5 (no upgrade package) 4x4 crewmax is 1560lb, I believe. That's with no bed liner, no steps, no skid plates if your limited has the TRD Off Road package, column shifter and a jump seat (instead of the giant console and shifter), a 26.4 gallon gas tank, bare bones 18" wheels, no leather, different floor mats, seat heaters, etc. and no sunroof. The sunroof itself is pretty heavy. Some of those other things are pretty lightweight, but I think it's all heavier than most people think.

Your door jamb is 320lb less than that max potential. Your extra 11.6 gal of fuel is 70lb by itself, and that doesn't count the weight of the larger tank itself.

All that to say, I think it's perfectly reasonable that whatever other options your Limited has really do add up to that difference. I don't think Toyota fudges those numbers at all, which is why so many of us gripe about it.

I know there are different packages, but how many are barebones and how many have those options like a 38 gallon gas tank and skid plate? By Toyota saying 1520-1730, but in actuality 75% or more of tundras are a few hundred under that, is it any different than Ford removing the spare tire?

I’ve read a lot of people remove their spare tires, esp after getting a lift and bigger tires. I’ve never heard of anyone intentionally keeping their 38 gallon tank at 1/2 full to make sure they have max payload.

The more I think about it, the more it seems exactly the same to me as what Ford and GM did.

I had a 2018 F350 and I couldn't keep that thing out of the dealer. I now have a 2020 F150 that's on the same path. The most annoying being a fist sized hump in on the dash and a really loud rattle on startup. Google F150 warped dash. Here's mine, Ford does nothing. Picture doesn't do it justice, it really draws the eye. Its a nice looking truck though, very buttoned down and simple.
