This. In the first year of my F150 ownership, this is the list of stuff I had to have fixed:

    - valve body TSB
    - seat TSB
    - back glass replaced twice
    - right rear door latch replaced twice (did not resolve issue)

    In my Tundra:

    - a sensor

I could care less about class-leading. I just want to keep up with the competition and do so reliably.

Might be in the minority, but I'd have no problem if Toyota copied some things that have practical value like integrated bumper steps on each side. Not talking about the multi function tailgate or anything, just steps that are always there waiting for use. Seems practical, copied or not. Don't see the harm in copying something with a specific function - especially if it's attached to a truck that may be more reliable.

To not have a slick sided rear corner bumper. It’s like they forgot what the bed of the truck is used for. Easier way to get items out of the bed would have been nice. I guess the aftermarket will figure this one out. Soon, folks on this site will be showing off there new duel sided motorized rear step.

I dunno man, I'm 6'5" and have no problem getting things out of my bed. Maybe you just need to get taller.

yeah the motorized cab steps and rear bed step is great if you are not in a northern tier state. those things always get frozen in a block of ice up here in ND during the winters. hence why we go with the tried and true bolt on and be done with it stuff. running boards are more useful than steps or tube steps since ice buildup is bad also on the gaps.

I've got this (manually operated) step on my truck and it’s a knee saver. Just don’t hit your shin on it :-| I’m watching to see if they somehow link this into that tailgate button. (E.g. double push for step, single push for tailgate)

Not everyone is tall. Just saying, and from the sales perspective women are major purchasers of pickups right now.

I know this has been posted, but it should be every several pages so people can see the engineering behind the 2022 Tundra.

I had a buddy who bought one once they came out. He talked SO much crap.

5 months later he sold it and got a Jeep.

About 7 months later he sold THAT and got something import - I forget what. LOL

I had the reverse of you, my 17' Tundra had multiple issues and my buddies 17' f150 did not....does that mean now that all Tundras are not reliable? Plus we have no idea what this new truck will bring to the table in terms of reliability, everyone is focused on perceived reliability which is how Toyota sells people less capable and not class leading vehicles. I'm guilty of buying into that as well i just have not seen it with my two Toyota truck purchases yet, and two of my issues were well known issues that Toyota let plague on for years so i don't have this confidence that they are the QDR champs. If they were they would fix these long term issues...instead they persist. All manufacturers have there strengths and weaknesses and Toyota is not exempt.

Toyota isn't perfect and you're right that we don't know then next gen yet.

But the Tundra as a whole is the most reliable 1/2 ton. There's a lot of empirical data to back that claim up. What's even more impressive is Toyota is a top manufacturer and their most reliable models are scattered. Usually a manufacturer ranks in the top because they can build small cars or small SUV's. But Toyota has class leading cars, small luxury suv's, minivans, and 1/2 ton

If you look at Ford’s 3.5 turbo eco boost the gas mileage isn’t anything outstanding. If you have that thing you’re gonna want it in the boost instead of the eco. :mudding:

Re. the missing tow hooks, do you guys think the flip down active air dam is the reason?

Also, just watched a lunar rock SR5 TRD sport overview and I really like that it comes with color matched grill surround, fender flares, mirrors, bumper and door handles. I am really liking the look of that one. I wonder if all SR5s will have the color match or just the sport.

I think it will answer a bunch of questions. I understand the no tow hooks now with the air damper that drops down at highway speeds.

I will agree with you that's what you hear about, I just have personally not seen it on either of my two Toyota truck purchases. This new truck has a lot of areas that i could see as failure points like the motorized rear step and the motorized air dam for example,so we will see how it holds up and if it stays inline with the data that they claim.

I guess it's Toyota that told Sweers he's not allowed to have a diesel?

A responsive gas pedal would be a nice change from the current gen.

Yeah, Sweers has said in the past Toyota will not move forward with a diesel for north america because of the emissions which cause reliability issues.

My guess on first TSB is transmission flash or jerkiness reports. Maybe some car play and infotainment bugs too given the jump in tech.

I hear you, my 21 TRD Pro is mechanically flawless but I have a few spots in the paint where debris got trapped so it's some rough bumps. Hardly noticeable but annoying. But I've purchased 15 cars with 12 of them being brand new and i've had an issue with every single one, but this Tundra has been the one with the fewest- so far.
