lol by that statement, then what was the point in bringing out a new tundra ?

cause every other truck out there was killing tundra in mpg unloaded by at least 7-10 mpg.

Better fuel efficiency is certainly welcomed. The $550-570 more a year is not really a good reference though. You have to look at this as a whole. Consider this truck in 2-3yrs, when/if gas prices skyrocket…that number becomes more prevalent. What if the feds implement an additional gas guzzler tax on V8 powered cars like they do in some European countries? What if the EPA starts taxing on 8 cylinder vehicles? There is a huge benefit to Toyota’s move on going V6TT.

With that said….expect tuning on this motor to be superb!!!

Too many if’s to be worried about MPG and a few bucks. Not to mention the world wants to go all electric, so they might tax all gas vehicles then.

Mine. I actually got 19-20 on my OEM tires. And on a recent trip with BF KO2 33” I got 17-18. This is doing 70-75. Your mileage may vary by terrain, so if your getting bad gas mileage on your 5.7 then don’t expect to get good mileage on the 3.5

spend $3k with @dirtydeeds and get long tube headers and a 3 in true dual exhaust keeping 2 cats and engine #'s improve by 49 hp and 89 tq. 5.7 hp will be 430 and tq will be 490. The improvement is all throughout the entire band as well. You will beat the ttv6 numbers while keeping your 5.7. You are welcome

Shit, thinking I might as well supercharge my '11 at this point. I'm not optimistic the '22 TRD Pro with Fox shocks and 3" lift and the iForce Max engine is gonna get much better mileage by the time most folks put on aftermarket wheels/tires, toppers/campers/etc.

I can tell you from owning a S/C truck that it doesn’t get good mpg when your always in boost.

I really like they way Turbo’s come on the power. I’ve never owned a supercharged vehicle. I think I-Force MAX with hybrid electric below 18 mph would negate any turbo lag off the line and be just epic. I just hope Toyota doesn’t put the batteries on the same side as the gas tank AND the driver.

As a ex-EU resident, people in US have a greater voting powers.

Don't mind the turbos, however all of my turbo engines got turbo-related problems well before they hit 200k miles. Ok, scale it to truck and Toyota's general reputation, and it will make it to 300k may be. But heat is heat, compression is compression, twice more parts is twice more parts.

Those come 600hp from the factory, Toyota is just tipping the hat to the Japanese 276hp gentleman's agreement.

I understand now what you meant. But I was just going by manuf mpg. Granted I am probably sure that in your area other trucks get just as bad mpg, I think. Different elevations, hills, mountains, etc. play a big role in mpg. Luck for me I am at sea level and flat roads. Like I said I get on the hwy 19-20 on OEM tires and 17-18 on 33” BF KO2. MPG on trucks really shouldn’t even be an issue. Your pushing 6k lbs, nothing efficient about that. I remember a time when a certain turbo engine was praised for its mpg and customers complained when they weren’t getting it.

nah its just crap gas and head wind going and coming. once i get out of ND and the dam wind (we always have 15-25 mph winds all the dam time) the mpg goes up from 11-12 avg to 15-17mpg. i notice this everytime i leave ND to go see my mom in GA. i take the same route every time and its 1700 miles 1 way and i do 2-3 mph over the speed limit all the way except SD which they are pretty strict (usually 1-2 mph over).

the speed limit is usually 55-65 except SD (80 i think) its been a while since 2009.

For some perspective, my old VW 1.8T goes from 180hp to 260hp with nothing more than a downpipe and a tune. Toyota has been hard to tune for a while but now that turbos are involved things hopefully will change. Only questionable part is the hybrid, hopefully that doesn't make it harder to upgrade.

I recall on pow-pow-powerwheels you can run the reverse wire to forward and go faster, maybe there's a comparable move for hybrids. :D
