I like and own a base or SR model. For 2022, any idea if they will include placement of the gear shifting lever on the steering column? I know the shifter is generally in the middle of front seats.

I highly doubt it'll be a column shifter.

I would think no column shifter, but I could be wrong

I saw a video where the guy said he asked someone at Toyota and was told no more column shifters or Bench Seats.

    For what it's worth!

    And Welcome

    I like my SR too!

No column shifter, no bench seat for 22 from a couple different videos I’ve seen
Not even any specs for a SR trim package

Seriously? No 6 passenger Tundra? That's disappointing. I already spoke to my dealer about ordering one. I've got 4 boys and 5 seats ain't gonna fit the whole family. Guess I'll be getting a Ram...

Sorry, should have been more clear. I spoke to my dealer about getting on their list, but they still don't have details on available configurations.

I've been looking through the official press release and can't find anything that says one way or the other. anyone have a link to something more official than a YouTube video? I've also emailed Toyota, but have not heard back...

    Got it.
I just saw it on the video someone else linked here but not sure it is all that credible either.
Sure would not surprise me at all though if they kill those options as they seem to try to move away from anything traditionally associated with trucks that they can it seems?

Makes it easier for me though to not buy one for sure!

Thanks for the welcome!!! And, more thanks for the info! Consensus seems "console shifter ". Fair enough, as I understand Toyota's position on it.

Man I hope not. The SR trim was my last hope for this suv.

One detail that has me concerned about the 6 passenger option is the 4WD selector. On the current generation it is on the dash, but the new truck has it on the console. Seems silly for Toyota to have a drive selector in two different places depending on seat configuration. I may be over thinking it though. We'll see soon enough...

If you have read this thread at all you will see that it is not an issue?

Again, I should have been more clear. What I was alluding to is that the placement of the 4WD drive selector seems to indicate that a 6 passenger 4x4 is not in the cards. Hope I am wrong.

I think most suvs only seat 5 in the first two rows so this works for the new turbo tundra

Which is exactly what I am saying too.
There will be no 6 seater with the bench so it is not an issue which I think is the consensus of this thread or at least what I have heard already and your observation sort of backs this up too.

I'm gunna go on a whim and say no column shifter. for the reasons of all the new tech in these trucks and transmission , would cost to much to redesign for minimal option for a very few. the only way I could really see the column shifter re-appearing is in a super base more than bare bones DC if Toyota was to cater to EVD witch as of this time I dunno of any contracts , I know mountain Rescue uses Tundra's in some of there vehicles but as a contract I doubt they had one.

but lets say for some reason they did get a contract I'm guessing they would use more powerful hybrid engine in a bare bones DC with a Colum shift an 8ft bed. just my thoughts , but maybe some info to look into and see if any thing is out there on whether or not there are any contracts. :notsure:

With 4 kids, no front bench is a deal breaker for me. Bummer. This would have been my fifth Toyota truck, but now it looks like I'll be checking out Ford or Ram.

Did Toyota factor in how many loyal customers they're going to lose when they did the cost comparison of how many bench seat trucks they sell vs. the cost of moving the shifter and 4wd selector?

As someone who previously owned a RAM truck I give you my condolences. Could you send a kid or two off to boarding school instead? It would be less painful.

I specifically bought my current truck as a column shift 6 passenger. It is a rare trim for my truck and rare in general amongst Japanese trucks
We had just bought a boat and wanted 6 seats, means my family and some friends can come along, less vehicles to park on busy boating days.

Fortunately, family has grown out of needing so many seats, sure would be a bummer to be forced into a domestic truck.

Maybe Titan still has 6 seats?

I find the "Bench" to be almost useless really but I can see the utility if that is what you need.
I removed the center section and am a lot happier with mine.
