No they arent held on by the bed, the bed is sandwhiched between the bed rail and frame brackets. I am curious if the bed will hold up being the sandwhich....

Unfair representation of the group.. this truck per a very large majority is also considered

    Ugly - Exterior styling
    Ugly- Interior camo seats
    Ugly - @#%#@$% chrome
    Storage - hybrids have none
Bed - no power like the f-150
Payload - unless you get a base 2wd it's not class leading

    And the list goes on...

I am very excited to see the all new Sequoia, but this new truck wouldn't make me sell my 19 for it, and I'd still get a Ram (based on what I know today) if I ever had to replace it.

I totally agree the color matched grill looks so much better. Problem for me is, my ideal Tundra is looking like one with the ugly grill.
So, I'm going to keep that in mind, and see if I can pick a color that is also available on the SR5 TRD Sport, so I can replace the grill with a OEM factory painted part.

I did something similar when I bought my 2007 Titan, that year only had chrome front end, in 2010 Nissan introduced a painted front end, and luckily it was in my color. I did a chrome delete, it looks 1,000x better.

    Its not a bad truck
Not a fan of the grill but that is where everyone is going due to the laws now.

I wont be buying one due to cost and I would only want the pro if I did buy one.
Dont like the battery in it though so I will pass.

I like all the comforts it offers though
The step for me is a plus, at a whopping 5'7 tall I can use all the help I can get.

I didnt see any front tow hooks though. I used mine Sunday to bring a tree down Sunday and would miss them if they were gone

It’s going to be a great truck, and it solves close to every complaint about the 2nd gens. I wish the crewmax had more available payload. It looks like it’ll be around 1500lbs, which is only 200-250lbs higher than the 2nd gens depending on options.

And I really thought numbers on the iForce Max would have been higher. Still, I trust Toyota’s numbers more than, say, Ford’s.

Even though I was a bit underwhelmed about the numbers (especially payload) upon their release last night, I will likely end up with one of these trucks at some point down the road.

I'm undecided on many of the changes, but I had hoped that they would add cooling to the seats like my brother's Lexus. Ventilated is better than nothing, but use cold air from the a/c and it makes a huge difference in the summer.

From specs and pictures, I'm a big fan of the new truck. We'll see what it looks like in real life and how it handles in a couple of months.
I really don't understand all the bitching about how Toyota missed the mark because it doesn't have these giant overinflated payload and towing numbers. Yet the same ones dog the domestics for their numbers saying there's no way a half ton can handle those numbers safely and its just a pissing match.
I can guarantee you load the domestics and this new tundra at the tundras max rating and test them side by side the tundra will handle it better and feel more stable even though the others will have slightly higher ratings.
There's a few things here and there I'm not a fan of but same goes for my 16. You can't make a truck that will make everyone 100% happy all the time.

The non hybrid numbers aren't the greatest out there, but they are still solid. Especially when you compare the torque curve of the 5.7 to the 3.5. Also remember these numbers are 87 octane. The 300 series is listed at 20 more hp and the same torque on high test. Run high test in the tundra and it'll more than likely make 400hp and be closer to 500 torque.
High test in the hybrid will give you 450/600.

Also let's not forget, Toyota is conservative with their numbers as well. The 300 spec'd at 409hp put 370 to the ground on the dyno. That equates to around 430 at the crank.
This truck is going to impress alot of people when it hits the road and the 5.7 won't be missed.

Any word if the Hybrid is only available on CM cabs? I am curious as the DC has a different rear seat area, will Toyota offer hybrid on that can also?

BTW, with the hybrid, where's a homie supposed to put the subwoofers?

LOL, you and I think alike.

I was already thinking I would have to get a platinum in a color that another trim that has color match has so I can swap it, just like last time with my 2016.

not really sold on the hybrid I don't think, it will likely cost you a lot of extra cash, more to go wrong and then the under seat storage is gone and then we are back to no storge anywhere. I guess we can see if they make swing cases for this model but not sure you can bolt those to a composite bed.

I think I could live with the 10 speed improvements coupled with the 80 lbs of torque lower vs my truck I have now and skip the hybrid BS

of course that is all subject to several test drives.

Man. This stings. That’s without the hybrid battery! I was hoping for a truck where I could use the bed and the cab, not just one or the other.

I guess most Tundra drivers who use their trucks for more than commuting will continue to be over payload. Nothing new there. It is what it is, I guess. :notsure:

Maybe my little bit of time in the Army has some how infected me, but I dig the camo seats. Not in the red, but I think it looks cool in the charcoal/gray or whatever. However, there's so much tech in these new trucks that I'm pretty sure I've been officially priced out of a new Tundra unless the demand for a Tundra V-8 skyrockets the value of the older generation.

I think the biggest hold back to the TRD Pro is the price so far. If it's around the $70k mark that's a hard sell against something like the Raptor in that price point.

The pattern is definitely better looking in the black interior. So far the red hasn't photographed well.

Wouldn't it have been easier to have started from the beginning of your post that you are pro electric and anti ICE and this truck does not meet your requirements? Unlike millions of other trucks owners.

I also like electric and Hydrpgen vehicles. But we have a long way to go before the majority of buyers will look at electrict vehicles first. Currently, they are great for commuting and local deliveries service when you can charge them at night.

I like the red. Different if nothing else. I'm thinking TRD PRO fully loaded with either MGM and red interior or the new octane color with black/charcoal interior.

What this does make me excited for is the 2022 Sequoia. We may quickly become an all-Toyota family. I can’t wait to get rid of my wife’s Yukon XL.

Please please please let there be an XL-length Sequoia with cargo room behind the 3rd row that matches a suburban…

I'm thinking it'll be similar to the Ford Powerboost, which is up there with the Raptor?

If I had to sum up the 22 tundra from what's known/shown so far in one word, it would be: Ambivalent.
I'm ambivalent about the looks, the power and payload numbers, as well as the HP numbers.
Neither really for or against the truck as a whole.. yet.
I agree that they're just playing catch up to what the competition has been doing for the better part of a decade, and haven't added anything groundbreaking or new. With that being said, there's only so much auto manufacturers can do with cafe and safety requirements, and all the other governmental bs that is required these days.

So here are the pros and cons as I see them:
    Pros:
-improved torque and HP numbers, everyone needs to keep in mind that modding a TT vehicle for more HP is usually a fairly easy thing to do for modest gains
-Interior improvements, I really like the look of the new interior
-6.5 foot bed included with the CM, FINALLY
-Composite bed, I like that they went away from steel for this, composites are tough as hell and won't look like rusty crap with regular use (mine does)
    -rear locker FINALLY added
    -optional hybrid
-better mileage (though we don't know what, it's gotta be better than the current gen, my lifted tundra gets 12 mpg)
-Seems there will be lots of customization options between trims, which is a good thing

    Cons:
-no v8 option, stinks, but can see why. v6 motors just don't sound nearly as good as a beefy v8
-TRD pro ONLY available as a CM shortbed, and ONLY a hybrid with the battery inside?? WTF?
    - Front grille.. hideous. Hopefully aftermarket manufacturers can take care of that mess
-power specs are a bit disappointing, (was expecting over 400hp) TQ is nice though.
-door height and cabin height seem to be smaller, almost tacoma sized. I noticed everyone had to bend their head to get into the truck in the videos, rear headroom is non existent on the CM models.
-overall truck height, even on the lifted Pro model seems pretty low
-limited with the goofy analog dash and the 4" screen in the middle.. this isn't a highlander.

I'm sure there are more, but that's all that really stands out to me.
Gas mileage estimates will hopefully be well north of 22mpg combined.. otherwise there really doesn't seem to be much benefit to upgrading from a mileage/performance standpoint

I think the red is great, but the camo print is what I mean isn't photographing well. It just seems out of place.
