This. There are *TONS* of features I've seen forum members ask for - AND GET. Let's not forget wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, underseat storage, easy bed release if hands are full (THAT is awesome), more easily accessible cupholders (rear of center console), and so on.....

....and everyone hates it before they own it.

I used to own a 2013 F150 SuperCab; it had 3.31 gears, with 365HP/385TQ. I remember walking up to get into the Tundra just prior to the test drive, thinking "It's only got 20HP/16TQ more....it can't feel that much more different/powerful.

THEN I drove it, with Tow/Haul on/off mode. The combination of 4.30 gears, a tighter ride, and all that makes it feel like a COMPLETELY different truck. Faster, too (by about .7 seconds), despite being heaver and a CrewMax.

I mean yeah, there are some styling cues that made me go "WTH" but everyone hated the first gen....and the second gen...and so on....until they actually came out, were driven, etc. All of this talk won't mean sh*t until we actually get to drive them.

You all are a weird bunch...

This truck looks great. I hope the interior feels more like the brand new Camry I just rented than the 2013 Tacoma I used to have. Even a brand new Tundra feels so old and dated inside and out.

I’m thinking the hybrid/10 speed will do very good in the fuel economy department.

Having watched all the videos...props to TFL truck and TRD Jon. I’m thinking about buying 3 options
    1) TRD PRO double cab. Hybrid
    2) 1794 with 6.5ft bed + 4x4 Hybrid
    3) DC 4x4 Limited + 8ft bed. Hybrid

Really curious to see if a Platinum or 1794 trim in a DC config is gonna be available.

Here’s a shocker, I have a ‘21 and I actually like the ‘22– however, it’s not enough of a “wow” factor to make me want to upgrade any time soon, nor (to the chagrin of many, apparently, on the forum) does it make me regret my purchase. I do sense a bit schadenfreude of some of the non-‘21 Tundra owners on the forum with respect to some perceived “butt hurt” among the ‘21 owners. Am I the only one?

Anyway, the looks will grow on me (aside from the camo… it’s likely a $70k truck and for who? Teenagers? 15 year old Kevin would have loved that shit… ).

I love the infotainment setup, I love the 360 camera, love the moonroof (the kids would love it anyway), don’t like the composite bed, don’t like the auto-off, definitely don’t like the hybrid battery IN the cab. I’ll bet they figure out a way to get that out of the truck over the next 3-5 years.

Payload (at least with the information that’s available today) doesn’t look to be significantly increased, the increased torque will definitely have me grinning. The towing figures look great on the info-graphics but are meaningless (for my use case anyway, i.e. I’m never going to tow 12k lbs in the tundra, probably wouldn’t ever use 75% of that).

I understand the approach to rolling the product out— Toyota can’t/won’t give us EVERYTHING this year because that steals sales/staff accomplishments from next year. This is a good base from which they will grow the Tundra of the future.

I think that won't exist. TRD PRO is only offered in crew max for 2022.

Exactly, our lightly loaded trailer has a GVWR of 5,692 lbs. We scale at 4,600 lbs with a 660 lb tongue weight. Before changing to LiFePO4 batteries and moving them to the back of the trailer our tongue weight scaled at 725 lbs. Add another 100 lbs for the hitch and you're going to be left with about 700 lbs of available payload best case for occupants and cargo......

And a 5th wheel? Even a "1/2-ton towable" 5th wheel's pin weight is going to consume that payload in a hurry.

This truck will be perfect for a small single axle 3,500 lb max travel trailer or a decent size boat in my opinion.

I hope that everyone celebrating the 1,940 lb advertised payload realizes that that will be for the lightest truck - a 2WD, DC, 5.5' bed SR with no options. The average weight of a pano roof in the F-150's and Titan's is in the 250-300 lbs range alone.....

Few things from my smallish brain:

Strip all the bull$hit away and it boils down to Tundra fans valuing reliability over everything else. I come to this conclusion b/c anybody who has bought a Tundra 2014-2021 could have arguably gotten more truck from the other manufacturers but stuck with Toyota instead. Anybody who bought 2007-2014 and still have it are obvious reliability fans - they just want a truck that works and never stops. Or maybe they just can't afford to upgrade.

Because we've all had to live with the 2nd gen for literally 15 years it's like a quality pair of boots that fit like nothing else and now the stark changes of the 2022 aren't at all attractive. Comments like it's hiddeous or ugly are completely subjective and, IMO once the shock wears off even those people will come to love the looks. Especially when people start lifting/modding and sharing photos.

I'll never understand those that are dissapointed that it can't tow 15,000 pounds and carry 2,500 pounds. If this is you, you aren't looking for a 1/2 ton truck and the other brands make what you need.

If looks are truly your #1 priority...well...to each his own, and I appreciate you b/c when I go to buy next March maybe demand won't be through the roof and I can get a good deal.

Tempting to not go TRD Pro this time although I do tow so not my best option. Curious how those tires will wear for highway driving and if they will hum after 20,000 miles. Easy enough to swap out, regardless. We off-road in our built Land Cruiser in Colorado and Utah but we could hit the lighter trails in the TRD Pro for giggles. My dealer will mark up the TRD Pro to $70,000 minimum. He has used TRD Pro's listed for $65,000 and they are selling. Once the prices come on down, I'll be selling my '16 and upgrading (I always sell outright--dealers are evil). I refuse to buy any other vehicle than Toyotas for my daily driver so I'll get used to the grilles, like we all will with time. I've had all the domestics. They break. My Tundra just runs and is never in the shop nor are any of my older Land Cruisers.

When I finally quit doing the rock crawling stuff and most likely not living in high elevation areas I could totally see myself owning a truck like this.

I thought the rear seat head room with the panoramic moon roof was a little disappointing in the TFL video with Yakov Smirnov sitting back there.

Yeah that was disappointing to see. If you get the TRD Pro with the pano roof it's a double cut with the battery adding seat height and the pano reducing roof height. It may not be so bad in non-hybrid models.

My only disappointment is the nickel battery in the hybrid. Then again, I'm wondering how hard battery replacement could be. I think I'll be ordering either a limited, platinum, or 1794 depending on pricing.

I think a lot of current SR5 owners will move up to the Limited, Platinum for the hybrid. A bit of a shame that it can't be had on the SR5 at least, but I also realize they need to have cheaper entry level options for the masses.

It looks like they addressed most of the issues that needed improving on the old generation. I have a 2016 and will probably upgrade about 2024, I'm not going to jump out of the gate and pay more, plus I want to see if they need to tweak anything after it's been out a year or so. So far I haven't heard fuel mileage numbers, that's my biggest complaint about my 2016. If it comes in a little better than the ford ecoboost I'll be happy. I don't care about the V8 being gone, I expect this engine to tow much better because of the turbos. Turbos move the power band into the lower rpm range and make it broader, it should pull easier than the 5.7 without having to rev it so much. Add in the 10 speed transmission and I expect it to drive a lot nicer towing or not.

I think the truck looks fine, I don't really get why so many are so particular about styling in a pickup. It's not your girlfriend. I'm also not at all interested in a hybrid or panoramic roof, I don't see any use for that stuff on a pickup. I'm glad they offer it for those that want it, but for someone that just wants a truck it's just wasted money.

That's actually exactly why I originally bought a Tundra. I needed:

    - powerful V8
    - ability to tow a small trailer
    - and reliability

The current truck has that in spades. Now we'll have at least as much HP/TQ (and more), more TQ available down low, ability to tow more, a ton of creature and other comforts upgrades,, better MPG, *plus* reliability.

For me, that's awesome. If one *needs* to do more than what this truck can handle, honestly, they need a 3/4 ton.

No we won't - at least not anytime soon. As much as it'd be nice to have even more HP/TQ, I'm not going to pay the premium it'd require.

Besides....the new engine has twin turbos. This will, ultimately, mean flashing the truck will gain one quite a bit more HP than flashing an NA truck. :)

Been waiting for this launch for over a year. Still not sold on that massive grill, but I think it looks worse due to the 32.5" tires on such a big truck. Would love to see what it looks like with the factory 3" lift and 35's.

Sweers said in one of the interviews that they offer it as an aftermarket lift installed by Toyota, and that a lot of the OEM components get replaced, so maybe real suspension lift and not just added spacer.

Looks like the payload is bad. the fully optioned out 1794 with 6.5 bed only has 1270lb of payload. worse than my current crewmax.
I was looking at a 5th wheel and that is not going to happen with the new Tundra.

If you want a 5th wheel you shouldn't be looking at 1/2 ton trucks, no matter the manufacturer.

Or they're following the GM model of trying to force everyone into the top trims.

The 3rd gen will be better than your 2021 in just about every aspect, but as long as you like your truck, that is all that matters.

Sweers mentioned there's challenges with seatbelt anchors and cab crush structure as why other manufacturers don't have it. Guessing they're trying to be cheaper with the DC and not deal with the same issues.

The problem with such a slow roll out is that the truck has been built up soo much. Then to come out with hp and tq numbers that just barely beat out Ford's. I guess I am underwhelmed, maybe the mpg will be the world beater?
I feel like this truck is a world catcher. I watched the Toyota Jeff series on you tube, and he kept saying that some of the stuff is still the prototype. Actual production trucks might be different. How have they been slow rolling this thing for so long and still can't get the actual product to the reveal. The center console sounded like the cheapest thinnest plastic. Maybe that will change on the production model.
So the waiting continues, what is the price? What are the mpg's? What will the real payload be?

Agreed, pretty weak that after all this time they can't release the full specs.
