I am also glad I got mine when I did.

the 22 TRD Pro is by far the best looking. The chrome and/or silver grill surround make the sr5 and up look goofy. I like the new tech and the idea of better mpg, but no buyers remorse purchasing mine two weeks ago.

Yeah this is the real reason I will most likely keep my 20 for a while. As much as I love my 20, I also really like what i'm seeing with the 22. But with the way the car market is right now I'm not paying over MSRP for a vehicle unless mine gets totaled and i have no choice.

I think you misread his post. He's talking about the comments on the reviews. Not the reviews themselves.

I though he was talking about the comment section. There are people paid to make positive comments on articles, movie reviews, and whatever else. Happens all the time on imdb also for movies and tv shows.

So is this a new 3.5L V6 or did they just turbo the old 3.5L that's been used in other Toyota vehicles?

Toyota, for better or worse, took a look at what 99% (intentionally exaggerating) of 1500 drivers use their trucks for, rather that what they dream their trucks where and designed a truck that meets the needs with updates to the MAJOR complaints.

    Working contractors/farmers drive base model 2500/3500 trucks…/end.

1500 drivers tow 6000 lbs or less and don’t use their full payload. Other than the all RV, no truck, on the cheap crowd, they don’t get close to max on anything. They also don’t rock climb or run the DAKAR Rally. They want the features so they can say..”I could”, when talking to other brand owners, but they don’t use them. BroDozers exists because…bro.

In reality they tow 30’ and under boats, small RVs and toy haulers. They drive on dirt roads going to and from some outdoor hobby. They use 4WD in the snow. Their payloads are big screen TVs, a trip twice a year to the home and garden center for dirt and moving the kids once a year during college.

They want loud stereos and a huge iPad type screen.

Mostly they want 24+ city MPG.

Like it or lump it, Toyota designed the new truck in a normal Japanese thought process. They targeted what they feel the best of Ford and Ram offer. They paid no attention to Chevy or Nissan, unless you like their body styling.

They took the LS500 power plant and tweeted it. Expect a tad less MPG and about the same performance. Expect the Platinum/1794 to be 2K over today’s prices. Expect the hybrid TRD to be 4-7K over that. Expect the hybrid city to be 19/20 and highway to be 28/29 w/combined being 23. Expect those numbers to be bullshit. I expect real world 17 city. (3 over what I get now…OHHH my estimated 90ish more miles per tank and $4 savings @ $416 per year). But I’ll be green. I’ll also be like Ford

The rear suspension will be like a Ram…that’s a good thing.

The interior keep it’s boxy feel with a nod to Ram/Ford tech. For some reason they feel a massive sun roof attracts????

The launch sample interior plastics look cheap and noisy. I hope that’s a pre-production thing.

A little oil on the truck bed and I’ll be able to ditch the Blackstone for camping pancake breakfasts.

The Ni-Cd battery (WTF) under the rear seat (double WTF) is an odd choice but I guess they are easy to get, won’t get hot and won’t ever reach full discharge so I guess they know what they are doing. But, really under the rear seat?

I’ll wait for a variety of reasons, but mostly because I don’t trust major new releases w/COVID issues/rushed tech. I’ll let others adopt and watch the recalls play out. The prices will settle and the reviews will let us know it twin turbo hybrid trucks are where it’s at.

All and all I’ll stay with the brand unless they are a problematic or another brand really ups the anti. Toyota did not set the industry on its ear with this one. They did pull even and ahead in a few areas. Japanese gonna Japanese.

Honestly it feels like Toyota needs as many v6 twin turbo hybrids in vehicles to keep costs down, move the tech forward and increase their profits. That’s the man behind your 14” dash TV.

I don't think a 5th wheel hitch ever gets mounted to the bed of any truck. It gets mounted to the frame through the bed, so the bed material is irrelative.

I for one am glad to see so many saying they will keep their V8's. I'd like the resale on mine to hold up in case I buy the 3rd gen in a year or two.

Kinda disappointed I'm not seeing much about the DC. I really want to get back to a regular size bed. The short bed just doesn't cut it and I want the additional PL you get with the DC.

Toyota people are an interesting group aren’t we?

“We want XXX and should have had it years ago dammit!”

    Toyota:

    Class leading power and torque
New interior with a lot to offer
Rear limited slip and electronic locker
    Power in bed
    360* camera view
Better ride due to redesigned suspension
    More towing and payload
    More efficient
    Boxed frame
    And the list goes on….

Toyota owners “Ah screw this &@:( , I’m keeping my 2.5 Gen and continue to complain about it daily!”

    All-righty then.

I doubt it, but a very legit question. Do you have rails that go to the frame of your current truck? Or do you have the GN setup that hooks in that way with the 5th wheel hitch?

This 3.5 came from the Lexus LS. I don't believe it's the same engine the Taco has but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct, it is not the same 3.5 as the Tacoma.

Amen. I suspect many of those bitching will come around and these will sell like crazy. This forum also doesn't really represent the average guy that buys a truck and only uses the bed to haul his kid's bicycle a few times per year. Many regular Joes will line up to buy this new Tundra if the MPG is close to the competition.

Is it the same block as the Taco? and did Toyota design a new head from the Lexus application for truck usage?

I like the improvements and especially the loud and thirsty V8 gone. Never thought it was a great motor anyway...well, not for 10 years at least. I'm looking forward to real world mileage numbers from the V6 and the Hybrid (especially the hybrid). I hope the hybrid give it more range. Too bad the electric motor can't work on its own like a small generator, nor stay on above 18 MPH.

It will be the new V35-FTS engine thats been in the Lexus LS 500 since 2017. The current N/A V6 used in Camry/Highlander/Avalon/Tacoma are all GR engines. So even though it's the same displacement it is not the same engine as the Tacoma and Camry

That's really a big miss. They've known what Ford did with their hybrid and didn't add any of the additional features that make it stand out. 400w in the bed just isn't cutting it to be competitive, especially when they lost all that under seat storage. You take away something, you better give me a lot in return.

I sure hope your right man. It seems that the color match grill is the key to making this thing look ok. The chrome or other colors just look so odd.

I hope the platinum grill can be swapped out for total color match from another model.

Im not much of a Pro person but the fact that the camo is forced and not an option is a deal killer for me, I'm not a younger dude who thinks a camo truck it cool, I like sleek color matched kinda low profile type deal. They should have had just a plain black option for the trim pieces and interior for the Pro so not everyone has to get camo.

I could probably deal with it in some places but it's on a lot of noticeable trim and didn't photograph well on the red interior.
