TRD Dual Exhaust help

One of my local dealerships service department quoted me 4 hours labor……$500
How ridiculous/outrageous is that since every YouTube video I watched of guys doing this install for the very first time in their DRIVEWAY. And the majority said it took under 2 hours. No shop lift and No prior experience.

 

I know , this is crazy. With all of the tools they have , how will take 4hrs ? Can’t get it . I’ve used 2 sockets and ratchet, one floor jack and 2 cans of the heat paint and went way easier than expected . I could go without jack as well , only the heat shield might be tight to reach , but everything else was easy !

I purchased the 2021 Tundra TRD Pro two weeks ago with that dual exhaust system. I sounds great mated to the six speed and the 5.7 V-8. While there may be no specific numbers out on this, our old school thinking always was that with dual exhausts there was less back pressure. And with less back pressure, we might squeeze out a few more horsepower.

 

The Trd system gains 3-10hp and 10-20tq to the rear wheels over stock. But not because it’s dual versus single. It’s because it’s free flowing muffler versus stock restriction muffler.

that said, when using stock exhaust manifolds you have way better low end torque with a proper, free flowing single exhaust which exits thru the stock single tailpipe, than you do with a dual exhaust of any diameter.

That is correct. I felt my truck ran better before the dual TRD exhaust was added on.

Sorry I never responded back. Took about an hour and a half. It was super easy!

I do love the sound. Much better. Can’t say anything else since the truck had probably around 20 miles on it when i did the install.

How has the paint held up after all this time?

 

I also installed the Dual TRD exhaust and painted with black exhaust paint before install which was extremely easy. 50K miles and 4 years and it’s held up perfect. Actually much better than I was expecting. For reference I do live in the Phoenix area so no salt or gravel.

 

Did you do any prep work? Sanding, primer, probably at least clean it with alcohol or similar paint prep fluid.

 

It was new so used a couple bottles of rubbing alcohol to make sure no oil or any other gunk. No primer. Just went straight with the exhaust paint. Think I used VHT. Only extra I did was did 2-3 coats trying to give it some extra toughness but again it’s held up amazingly well considering it’s environment.

 

To be honest it still looks pretty good . I haven’t wash it really good underneath to make a good observation . I’m in the salt belt and probably will have some rust . I’ll wash it and update !!!
