17" wheels won't balance

So I've recently purchased 17x8.5 Method Double Standard with 0 offset with Corsa All Terrain XL 285/70/17 tires. Tires are cheap about $120 a tire, truck is an 07 Limited CM leveled. Been to Discount Tire 3 times and they say they are balanced but at highway speeds between 55 and 60 the steering wheel shakes bad. I suspect it's the tires, can anyone chime in with suggestions?

 

Just put 35s on my 18s from discount and basically the same thing. I am going to try and a find a shop that has road force balancing.

 

Are those Method wheels hub centric, or do you have hub centric rings in them?

Lug centric

 

Switch the front pair to the rear and see if you can isolate. If the problem goes away, bring one tire to the front at a time and see which tire is the culprit.

If you switch the front pair and the problem does not go away, you might have some other problem.

If you can isolate to one particular tire, make discount work on it until its fixed.

You said the tire is cheap... thats your first problem

And yea they switched front to back and the vibration got better but still there. At that time they said one tire was way off on weight. I might just go with BFG KO2s they have a few in stock.

 

I'm sure they know the tires won't balance and they are just trying to shove you out the door. Try the KO2s. I've been happy with them

 

you usually (if not always) get what you pay for.

Yea at $120 a tire, plus I can't find any reviews on those Corsa tires anywhere. Was trying to stay budget friendly.

Got toyo AT's but still wanted to save money, so I went the budget route on my lift (RC 3" spacer). Bad move! LOL

After that, I realized it's best to do it right the first time. Why can't these things ever be cheap and good quality?? Dang it!

 

Its probably not balancing on the machine, but really close so they just try to shove you out the door.

Or, they don't know what they are doing.

Or its not a true road force balancing and they are just telling you it is.

Tire shops do not always hire the most qualified employees.

Honestly, at this point I would get a full refund and go somewhere else.

I put new tires and wheels on a Silverado that I had. When I got up to 70-75, the truck would vibrate and felt bouncy. It started in the front, then they switched it and did the same thing on the back. 70-75, would just bounce like crazy. I did BFG Ko2's, and must have had them put 4 new tires on them, still did it. They finally said the wheels I went with are not hub centric and they can order me new wheels. At that point I was done. I made them return it all, credit me and put my original wheels back on with new tires. Everything went back to normal.

So I just assume it was a bad wheel, or because it wasn't the hub centric.

 

BFG KO2s didn't work
They can't figure out why they won't balance.
On the 17" wheel with the caliper grind down the heat the brakes produce was melting off the glue so the weights kept falling off. They did a dynamic balance and still no go. They put my factory 20" wheels and no vibrations what so ever.

They refunded me my $$ so now I'm in the market for 18" wheels

 

Go with hub-centric wheels. Lug-centric wheels are more likely to have vibration problems.

From what I've read, the hub centric for a Tundra is 110 Bore. Maybe someone can confirm that?

Method and Icon have 110mm hub centric wheels in 17"

I dont know why the OP would have problem with the weights on a 17" wheel. I run 17s and 35" KO2s with out issues.

 

good tires, good wheels, good shop: if you have Methods and BFG KO2, I would try a 4x4 shop specialized in suspension/alignment see if they can get it dialed in.

 

DT is telling me these Methods I have are lug centric, so try hub rings then? I don't get it either I know guys running this set up with no issues. FRUSTRATED!!!

Method are hub centric. But some wheels are 116mm and some are 110mm. Tundra has a 110mm hub. 116mm wheel will work if you get an adapter.

First you need to figure out the hub bore on the wheels you are trying to fit

If not 110mm look for the correct adapter, ie 116mm to 110mm adapter
