Thanks. I'm hoping for a TRD Pro hybrid... I think it's probably going to end up being a "mild hybrid" rather than true hybrid, but I hope I am wrong.

I don't know if you've seen the leaked order shots, but the TRD Pro isn't available for dealer order.

    It's looking a spring 22 arrival.

I must have missed those. How are they able to have leaked order shots if dealer ordering isn't open yet?

The deposits don't mean squat, and even I still have on a 22. It doesn't mean squat because if you're hoping for a TRD pro, their allocation will go to who will pay the most for it. The dealer I have a deposit on and the dealer I bought my 21 from all have lists, and all are not "selling" above MSRP. But both of them already have folks offering over MSRP for the TRD Pro.

Dealer inventory optioning is open. Order for customers is not. We'll find out in 3 days but I'd be shocked if the TRD pro is up for immediate release. I feel like it's got the same timeline as the 22 Silverado.

I have never heard of a dealer agreeing to a price with a preorder deposit.
In USA, the dealer only needs to return your deposit if things don't work out.
A recent post on this thread stated they only received a cc receipt for their deposit, and that is usually how it goes. The dealer has every right to call you and say "hey that Tundra you placed a deposit on is in, if you want it come on in and bring $5k ADM and it's all yours, or we can give your deposit back"

Ford, the actual company, did get involved, somehow, with the Bronco preorders, and Ford, not the dealerships, even locked the pricing for it's customers. I don't know how that works, but it's rare to happen, and Ford made it happen for the Bronco

This is what will happen. The dealer will either mark it up or another person will willingly pay more. Over at the Ford Forum, there are a few deposits that had signed purchased orders that once they arrived the dealer added a markup. Like I said before deposits don't really mean anything. It's really just the dealer keeping count of how many are interested.

If by "preorder deposit" you mean putting a deposit down before pricing is released to hold your place in line then, I agree. I have heard of people negotiating based on MSRP of the current model year, but that's usually for vehicles that aren't expected to change much in the next model year and even then it's rare.

    Yep... that was me.

I think we might be talking about two different things. There is a difference between putting down a deposit and saying "let me have first right of refusal when you get one in" and actually placing an order with the specific trim, color, and options you want. When you place an actual order you have the opportunity to agree on the price up front and get it in writing. Later you will receive a VIN number once one has been allocated for your order.

It all depends if you have a good relationship with your dealer.
I put a deposit ($500) on an Acura MDX in June and it came in August. they could have sold it 4-5 times over. They even got offers over MSRP. They kept their word with me and I got it under MSRP. not much like $1500. But this was the 3rd Acua from them in the last 10 years.
I'm in sales and regardless what people say, relationships still matter.

They can and do still markup even after this process. Ford dealers are doing it because Ford stopped dealer orders and only allowed custom orders so they would get a customer to order and jack the price up.

The easiest way to avoid getting scalped by a Toyota dealer on a new Tundra is wait a year or two before you buy one. The current automotive market for new or used cars is just bananas right now, and best avoided if possible.

Incorrect, but I understand the confusion. AFAIK, the Sequoia is the only Toyota that has 2WD combined with the Torsen full-time 4WD with CDL, and 4LO. Look at this Used 2019 Toyota Sequoia TRD Sport for sale in Centennial, CO 80112: Sport Utility Details - 601737412 - Autotrader ad picture 17, you can see the drive selector is 2WD-4H-4L and the CDL button next to the Tow/Haul button. Even base SR5's get three drive modes, four drive modes if you count CDL locked. It's the same Torsen center diff/transfer case as the Runner Limited and Land Cruiser.

You're right the Runner Limited has only 4HI-4LO. 4th Gen Runner V8's are the same. I hope the next gen Seq will retain three modes + CDL, and seems a good move to give it to the new Tundra.
Yes. Toyota calls their Torsen center diff/transfer case "Full-time 4WD" Chevy and Ford calls theirs "Auto 4WD". Best to keep those two separate from "AWD" like an Audi because it does not have a transfer case and therefore no 4LO.
It's full-time 4WD. A current gen Sequoia can stay in 4HI 365 days a year on any surface with the CDL unlocked.

I think it is a great idea to make it available in all of the new BOF lines. It's proven for millions of miles in the BOF SUV lines, never understood why the Tacoma and Tundra didn't get it. Dimension-wise, if you crawl underneath it looks exactly like a part-time transfer case. Same fill/drain plugs, same actuators, same driveshafts, same front/rear differentials.

Back in the day you could get a kit to turn a Ranger into AWD, I wonder what it'd take to do the same to a Tundra.

Also, as for white trucks, I've had a few trucks, the white showed the least dirt. I swear I washed it once a year.

I've heard of people putting the sequoia's transfer case into the Tundra to do that.

If it has a 2WD mode, I would say it's not full time 4wd. My dad's Suzuki Grand Vitara is full time 4wd because it has only 4Hi, 4Hi Locked and 4Lo.

I'm not in the car industry, but I'm not convinced the markups will be as high as people think. I called my local ford dealer earlier this week to ask what their lead time is on F150s (8-14 weeks btw). They're selling ordered trucks at MSRP, or so they say.

If the Ram and GM factories have been closed and the dealers aren't getting new trucks, and my choice is between paying MSRP for a Ford or a $5k markup for a Tundra, I'm buying the Ford. If the Toyota is more reliable and costs $5k more (everything else being equal), it doesn't matter.

To me, this looks like the perfect opportunity for Toyota to steal market share and say they outsold Detroit. Crank out all the new Tundras as you can, sell them at MSRP, and tell the world you sold more than GM and RAM combined. Most people won't be smart enough to see through the BS.

Toyota doesn't sell the cars, dealers sell the cars. Dealers don't care about Toyota's market share percentage.

Edit: To add the KC Ford Plant is closed, and closed through October from what I've read. I ordered my F150 in June. It hasn't even been scheduled for production yet.

Fair enough. How long are dealers going to be ok with selling a product for $5k more than their closest competitor, when that very truck was used to benchmark their product? Couple weeks?

Ford's at MSRP are marked up 10-15% compared to normal. Last time I checked a loaded up XLT F150 was in the $67k CAD range, a TRD Off Road Premium Tundra was $52k CAD. Pretty significant gap for similarly equipped trucks. That was advertised prices, normally that XLT F150 would be ~50k range advertised.

In that scenario where the Ford is $15k more, you're still buying the Toyota with a markup of $5k. I think when the new Toyota comes out though, theres not going to be a $15k gap.

I'm in a jam. My wife's lease is up in January (same time our first child is coming), and I'm giving her my Acura. I think we may have to buy out her lease until we can get either a new tundra or F150.

My lease was up in January too but I just sold it for more than my cap cost was. I ordered an F150 in June and it keeps getting delayed. My build date is for November now. So I bought a 21 TRD Pro. I love it so far.

As long as they honor the Cap Cost, we should make $9k on it, so I'm not opposed to doing that.

Same. First on the list for Northern Nevada. Going to switch it up this time and get a lunar rock with boulder interior, then throw on some machined wheels.

I guarantee the current gen Sequoia has a full-time 4HI Torsen center diff with CDL, 2WD and 4LO. I had to do a lot of research to confirm that before I bought it, so I understand the skepticism.

Look at the Autotrader link I provided. The CDL button next to the Tow/Haul button shows it's a Torsen full-time 4WD. You'll never see that CDL button in any Toyota unless it has the Torsen full-time transfer case. Same Autotrader link shows the Seq has 2WD also.

Hopefully the next gen Yotas have all three modes available. It's not difficult to accomplish, already been Beta tested in the Sequoia.

Having said that, Runners and Land Cruisers with only full-time 4HI and 4LO has worked fine for many years and many miles. Very reliable system.
