    That’s my first thought, but my wife pointed out that maybe some piece of sorting equipment did the damage and the knife got dropped behind the machine to get found later. They do have ‘lost and found’ so I’ll try to be optimistic

    Wouldn't count on it :mad::(. Pretty sure they scan/image the packages that come thru and its amazing the stories you can find of cool/valuable items "falling" out of shipping packages.

    Sorry but nope, I retired from the Post Office years ago. I will say though that as a carrier I personally would stamp fucked up packages with that received damaged stamp. It's more of a cover your ass thing so they can't blame you (the mailman)
