    Ok 2015 cm trd pro here. What's the difference between the 7200 lbs and the 10k towing capacity? I am assuming the only difference is the hitch. Class 3 vs Class 5? Anyone have any info?

    Reason I am asking I have a 28 ft enclosed at about 8000 to 8500 lbs.

    Look in your owner's manual. Find your truck Model code and engine size and you'll have what you're looking for. Just be sure and watch all the fine print and foot notes.

    Yea i read that. I guess my question is what's the difference between the 7,200lbs and the 10,000lbs. Is it the hitch because everything else is the same.

    De Badged / Decaled, Firestone Ride Rite Air Bags w/ Daystar Cups, 17" Rims, Big Brake kit w/ slotted & drilled rotors, plus lots of work related stuff.
    Not sure what they do on the Tundras...on the Tacos (3500# vs 6400#) the difference is a Class 4 hitch, 7 pin connector, wiring for a brake controller, tranny cooler, engine oil cooler, and some computer controlled sway control stuff. Look in the specs and see what is listed on the Tundra in the Factory Tow package...could be quite a bit. Usually the lower rating is simply a Port installed hitch and a trailer plug. I assume the Pro comes with the 5.7? My 1st gen has a 4.7 and it has a 7400# rating with factory tow package.

    One thing to consider is that the 5.7L Tow package option also includes rear leafs with increased spring rates over stock setup and 4.3:1 diff giving it the higher tow rating

    My TRD Pro has a REDUCED leaf spring rate. Payload is reduced by 55 lbs.
    Payload is now 1185 lbs. Tow capacity is 9,200. If I towed a 9000 lb. TT, with a 900 lb tongue weight (10%), my remaining payload would only be 285 lbs. I weigh 208, so now I can only put 77 lbs. of stuff in the bed! So technically, you can be rated to pull a trailer that weighs x amount of pounds, but with hitch weight, fuel, camping items, and people, your tow vehicle could be overloaded.

    Be a cold day in hell before I ever go back to LA LA land. I wasted 17 yrs there in aerospace calibration. I'm not compatible with CA anymore. I'm into freedom and the 2nd amendment and the EPA, CA cafe stds keeping me from doing anything realistic with my truck or property. :oldglory:

    I wouldn't worry too much. A Tundra can pull 12,000-13,000 lbs reliably, so if you're over the GVWR by 500-1000, eh.

    Hell is cold...Actually, I do go back to SOCAL every summer. Most of my brothers and sister, mom still live in the Anaheim Hills and Irvine area. I like to visit and check out my Dodgers, but I could never live in Nanniefornia again. No freakin way.

    Let's keep in mind that GVWR, GCWR, and max tow capacity are designed as maximums. The ratings are determined by engine output, axle ratios, vehicle structure and weight, chassis design, suspension design, hitch class, tire ratings & load capacity, cooling capability, brakes, etc. It's not arbitrary and the values set are to keep you, passengers, and surroundings safe.

    Some people thing "heck I added a supercharger, now I can haul more." It's not just power output. In fact, if you have a s/c installed by the dealer, they add a sticker to the door jam stating that GVWR is REDUCED by 13 pounds due to the extra weight of the s/c and components.

    GVWR specifically is based on federal restrictions. The vehicle has to meet federal stopping requirements. Max tow capacity is founded on the SAE JS807 standard. Think of these as semi torture-tests that include handing performance (under/over steer, trailer sway), braking performance (stopping distance as well as parking brake hold on an incline), structural performance on the hitch, acceleration and braking performance on a level road and 12% grade, cooling capacity in the middle of a fucking desert. Again...not arbitrary. Be smart, tow safe.
