Just confirmed with Toyota that once you opt out of Connected Services, you lose the remote start option on your key fob.

Was annoyed that Leer's cap does not have working dome lights. Yeah, it has one, but is connected to DRL. Means, no light unless the engine is running and DRL is on, which never happens at nights in the wilderness, when bladder calls for a short rendezvous with mother nature.

Had to fix that with a standalone small lead-acid battery, battery charger and reverse flow protection to prevent parasitic battery drain to truck's circuits.

Smoke test. The charging controller fits inside fuse box after minor trimming (not visible from outside).

The cage. Pardon my amateur welds...

    Primed, painted.

    Installed.

Battery was later secured with a zip tie. It is protected from water (cap and rear hatch were additionally sealed), easily removable, sits behind a fuse, can sustain heating to >120F and freezing below 0F, unlike LiPo batteries.

I attempted that, but was on hold for like 15 minutes. That hold music was loud as hell! Is this something different than the connect stuff? I assumed they were one in the same.

Are those big slivers / chunks of metal? Not what I would expect to see... the paste on the magnet is normal. I'd be concerned seeing pieces of metal larger than a grain of sand.
