No navigation?

I have 2014 Tundra TRD off road and I start to belive that I don't have GPS, or I don't know where to find it.
I can see in apps "traffic " but that's something different I believe.

 

Some trim levels with Entune didn't include Nav upgrade.

 

I am pretty sure that unless you have the slot for a Nav Memory Card on the bottom right corner of the radio that you do not have Nav.

How many of you ever used the navi?

 

I do a lot. When I need it. Quite handy at times.

 

I use CarPlay and Google maps. Works great, does yours have CarPlay and do you use an iPhone?

The biggest problem with the car nav systems is the map is static unless you pay for the update. So even a new car might have an outdated map pack. I don’t know what Toyota charges, but Ford wanted something like $125 for the update. If you go with your phone, then the map is more current and gets updates for free.

One benefit of the car nav is it doesn’t need cell service to work. As long as you have a gps signal you’re good to go. But some phone apps allow you to download local maps so it works the same.

 

Yeah, my map is outdated. I can get a "newer" map chip on Amazon for $30/$40 but not the latest. If I want the latest nav map, the dealer does charge a lot. Crazy $. I forgot how often Yota updates the maps. Maybe every 2 years or so.?

 

Not sure how often they are updated. Guess the biggest issue is where you drive and how often the roads change. Here in Seattle they can’t build it right the first time so things are always changing.

 

I have NAV and have never used it once, I have a tablet mounted above the stereo that I use, much more efficient, stock nav is always terrible which is why they now offer Android Auto in 2020+ and the map is provided by your phone rather than out dated maps on the car.

 

I would just get a Gaia maps subscription before I got vehicle based Navi. You can update and cache maps etc etc. Don’t need cel service and works great for trails too
