Garage Dooer Opener/Trouble

I've read the manual and the truck doesn't seem to want to take the garage door when I try to pair them. Any suggestions or anyone experience anything else like this and got a fix? I'm not sure if they all do, but my truck has the buttons on the rearview mirror. 2016 Tundra SR5 (Canadian truck; I read somewhere we had different options than USA).

 

Mine has it but haven’t tried to pair them yet. I’m sure someone here has.

 

I think Toyota uses homelink. I ended up following the homelink website instructions. Go to their website and follow their instructions for the correct model of garage opener.

 

I had the same issue a few years back and had to replace my opener. My original (Wayne Dalton) garage opener was "Home link" compatible originally but due to it being fifteen years old it was no longer compatible with newer Home link devices. Once opener was replaced I had no further problems and all work as designed.

 

I have this app called MyQ, its all on my phone I'm not even sure if I have a garage button in my truck.

 

I think it’s something like this, going off memory here so it may not be exact
1. Push and hold outer two homelink buttons until led blinking changes, slow to fast or fast to slow I don’t remember (this erases all learner codes on the truck)
2. Get your current garage door opener remote and hold about 3 inches away from mirror. Push opener remote button and the button on mirror you want to open garage. Hold them both until led blinking changes.
3. press the “learn” button on your actual garage door opener. This is usually behind the light lens near the wire hook ups. You have about 30 seconds to run to your truck and push the mirror button you programmed. You may have to push it multiple times. I usually do 1-2 second pushes with a 1-2 second pause in between. This usually gets it done.
If not like other poster said it may be your garage door opener isn’t compatible or you may need another interface like my wife’s Infiniti. Her vehicle needed a separate module that I had to program to the garage and then program that to the car.

this will be the 99% rule for all garage door manufacturers. this is the procedure i use on a door system that is from the late 90's. the homelink instructions are vague on this process (in the tundra manual and on the homelink website). it kinda tells you to do either step 2 or step 3 above, but in reality you have to do BOTH step 2 and 3 in that order

and on step 3, do the push sequence in short bursts as stated or if that doesnt work, just hold it down. on my 2014 4runner i had to hold it down, on the 2018 tundra i had to do short bursts.

 

In my experience, Home Link is very hit or miss. I've had 4 vehicles with it along with 3 different houses using recent model garage doors (from the years 2010, 2012, and 2015), and my Tundra is the first and only vehicle I've ever been able to pair with Home Link. All I can recommend is to follow the instructions to a T, start over if you mess up, but don't make yourself crazy over it because I think the system is flakey overall.

I will say, if you are successful, the range is really good. My door opens from much further away than with the clicker, even with a fresh battery.

When pushing the “learn” button on the garage door opener, does that add the homelink code and Not delete my remote unit’s functionality? In other words, I want both my remote unit and the truck’s mirror/homelink to work. Thanks

 

Depends on the model, but usually yes, you add remotes without affecting the old ones that were already programmed. Just don’t clear all learned devices when you do it and you should be fine.

 

It’s a very old opener. I’ll have to see if i can find a manual to make sure it won’t clear the memory.

 

I got the 2016 Tundra, as well and have set several openers with it. I was going to tell you about the learn mode on opener but someone already has and could tell you how to program it but there are so many different models out there it would be a waste. I would suggest viewing your opener's instructions and pairing with however the truck tells you. I drove my truck in front of opener to be closer.
