Hey folks looking for some input. I have a 2003 tundra, 4.7. One day I went to start it and one click and lost all power to the truck. No light or anything. So hopped in my ford and went to work. Got home, disconnected the battery and reconnected to reset the short. Did it again. And would do that every time I reset the batteries. So my guess was starter was shorting the truck out. So for those who have done it. Starter is located underneath the intake manifold and is a pain to change. So I got it tore apart, changed the starter. And before putting it all back together wanted to test the starter. I put the battery terminals back on, and the truck had power. Turn the key and hear one loud click, then a rapid clicking that sounds like it’s coming from the dash when all the dash lights rapidly flash. Hard to point out where the initial click or if any noises are made in the engine bay since I’m by myself. But does anybody know what the problem could be and why the starter is not running?

Bad battery or battery terminals. Classic symptoms.

The click is your starter solenoid activating. Its not a short, its just pulling so much power it blacks everything else out, the solenoid loses power, opens up, which cuts the power so the battery rebounds, solenoid closes again, cycle repeats...thats the rapid clicking and why your dash lights are flashing. Sorry you did all the work to do the starter but it likely has nothing to do with it and its just the battery or the terminals/cables.

Yea, I really doubt it's the starter. No lights. Battery issue, or bad contact somewhere's.

I'll bet you don't go immediately to that silly-ass assumption again. :D

Check out the easy stuff first.
