That depends on the standard. Is the standard for a 65 MPH pull at that weight? Is that weight a bunch of rebar on a flatbed or is it a box trailer that faces wind as well? These are the things that may or may not be covered in the standards and would 100% affect the outcome of the tow. What if the standard is based off a 45 MPH pull on a mild course because it's old as shit and the old vehicles wouldn't be able to tow faster than that? And now that they can the standard has lagged behind the tech, and do you really believe that a marketing firm/department wouldn't test to the minimum and advertise to the maximum? They already do!
    Marketing:
"F150 can tow 13,300 lbs of whatever you want!" with a pick of a fully loaded Lariat/King Ranch pulling a horse trailer/camper.
    Reality:
A stripped down, basic, 2wd, smallest cab possible F150 can barely pass the standards for towing 13,300 lbs of low heavy materials on a flatbed trailer.

Right, but HAS the standard changed? The DOT helmet standard hasn't. It's pitifully outdated and has been for ages, but they haven't changed it. Technology has advanced tremendously and the DOT standard is the same as it ever was. Are the towing standards as outdated as the DOT helmet ones? Do they account for the variables mentioned above?

Looking at a tow rating and only looking at the weight is very one dimensional, and it's not a stretch to think that the standards won't change until there is a public demand for it. That usually requires some sort of catastrophe or tragedy. Even then, the standards may stagnate as the helmet ones have, but other standards may become available like the ECE and SNELL ratings.

My overall point is that blindly trusting bureaucrats to update standards to account for evolving technology is giving over way too much personal responsibility to organizations that are not going to cover your liability, injuries, or expenses when things go wrong. Especially when marketing is the art of lying as carefully as possible to not be able to be held liable.

Well we can discuss semantics all night long. I’m too tired to decipher a wall of text and I’m about to get ready to watch Tom Brady. So I’ll say 50 Buc(k)s, 7 Cowboys.

Not arguing semantics. Asking questions and verifying my points that you have misconstrued/misinterpreted. Purely trying to clarify my thinking rather than allowing someone else to define what I am saying.

    Nothing misconstrued/misinterpreted.

Except where I said discuss and you said argue. I’m not trying to argue with anyone or say what you are thinking. Just discussing different opinions.

And Chevy debuts the Silverado ZR2 in the NFL season opener . . . . .

Looks like it will be a hit. Looks good, good offroad specs, V8. Kind of took the wind out of Tundra's sails, will be difficult to top that.

I am EXTREMELY attracted to the new Chevy's and GMC's but I got bit pretty hard with my wife's Tahoe. Leading up to 160k I have replaced both cooling fans, transmission, condenser, shortly after the condenser replacement the compressor blew up, both sides of rear air suspension, and of all things.... the dang driver seatbelt buckle stopped latching. I will state that I bought the new gen when they first started trickling on the lots for the 2015 model (won't do that again) but after this experience, I'm not sure I will ever buy a GM product again (just my experience). My 07 Tacoma just hit 250k last week and is making me more biased as the ticker ticks up as I've only done regular maintenance, replaced the tensioner bearing, windshield washer fluid pump, and done the compass/temp display repair. I joined this board ~ 2016 because I switched professions where I could afford moving into a Tundra but decided to patiently wait for the new gen. No matter how biased I am, I won't be the guy doing a pre-order and will "probably" wait to jump in late 2022.

I am trying to like the new Tundra. All I see is a big taco with an ugly front end. Something about it just looks off. like the front end is lower or something. I can't put my finger on it.

The interior in the new Chevy looks great. Bad timing for our Tundra. It will look dated sooner than later unfortunately.

Agreed, like they just upsized the taco. Taco Grande. After a test drive or two of in the new Tundra I could be looking at a new Silverado!

Is that a 6th seat in chevy’s new top off-road trim? And a column shifter?! This is the first thing I would change about my truck. To me, a truck needs a front bench. I still think my console and shifter are weird.

Toyota, are you paying attention to this?! Probably not. I’m guessing I’m in the minority on this one.

The first images of the Chevy refresh looks really good. I own a 2020 Tundra out right but I’d be lying if I wasn’t interested in what I see there. Nice looking interior, 6.2, a bed that’s easy to get into, and not as much chrome on the higher end trims. I’m intrigued to say the least.

I too am in the minority, at least on this forum, on shifter. Get rid of the shifter sticking out of the middle console for a column shifter or something else. It opens up the space for easier placement of drinks, phone, storage, or just having an open center console area for more leg room (tall guy here, i hate how all cars have giant center consoles right where my knee rests into).

the women in my family prefer the trims with center consoles that go all the way up to the dash. I'm not saying those are sissy trucks but I wouldn't want to drive one myself.

When I was still considering a GM, I was annoyed that they dropped bucket seats from the SLE/LT, forcing folks into the Elevation/RST to get them, even though I like the look of those trims better.

So when I got my Chevy 2500 HD in LT trim, the center console is the only option it did not come with. It has the bench seat and column shifter....

However, the center console is quite large and has all the same storage and usefulness as my Tundra. I also can flip it up and let my son or daughter ride beside me in the neighborhood and they love it! The way it is designed even though it is a bench, the driver and passenger are still built up bucket seats. I am also rather tall, so instead of my right leg resting up against the center console in the Tundra, I have an open area and it is actually much more comfortable. After owning it, I much prefer it and the steering wheel shifter over the console shifter.

Talked about earlier, but Chevy does a nice job with the HD radio. You can control AC by the screen, or the dials and I love it!53817E07-9F0A-4C8F-B02D-49F78D82CAA1.jpg

The new ZR2 interior looks awesome! It has a large screen but much more integrated and natural looking when compared to the new Tundra with it sticking up in the air.

Agreed. Hoping the tundra interior shots are just shitty pics. Not into the screen popping up into the stratosphere. Lot of manufacturers are doing it now though, so not holdin’ my breath.

Chevy has the trims listed and the ZR2 falls just under the HC. HC starts around $65k so I put base ZR2 probably around $62k. TRD pro will prob be similar.

Toyota better have something special with the new TRDpro. From the looks of it, that new Silverado ZR2 has castrated it.

I'd have to agree. About the only knock would be the leaf spring setup, potential lifter issues in the 6.2, and interior quality and comfort. GM seats are some of the worse in the segment.

Thats a lot of things to worry about after the warranty runs out. You are comparing the top of the line lifted ZR2 professionally photographed and touched up with a base model non lifted standard Tundra with a photo taken by a cheap phone camera taken through a windshield at an awkward moment and angle. Let them unveil the Pro in a week or two and then compare the designs and specs. This is an example took it off line and a (bad photoshop job) I example to say the least of what is possible. But it gives an idea for now. Do u like this perhaps? I do….

I’d probably never own another GM, but at least they positively improved it, upgraded it, and release it without this slow rolling bs.

I have owned 2 GM products that I bought myself, and my first car was a GM product.

The 1984 Chevy Cavalier was what my brother and I learned to drive on. Car refused to die, God knows we abused it.

Next was a 1994 Z28 with the 5.7L and 6 speed manual. Cheap plastics everywhere you looked, but I didn’t care because it was at the time a fast car. Generally pretty reliable.

Currently we have a 2015 Chevrolet SS, for those unfamiliar this is a Holden Commodore (VF model) in its home market of Australia. Four doors, rear drive, 6.2L LS3, mag ride, Brembo brakes, etc. For the price a pretty nice car, pretty quick, great road car. Devours highways, and lots of fun on twisty two lanes. Of course being a cool fun car that can fit actual adults and luggage, GM only imported 10,000 or so over 4 years and didn’t advertise them at all. It’s only had a steering rack replaced under a TSB, and a lower driver seat cushion adjusted under a TSB. So far, knock on wood, the Elizabeth AU plant put it together right.

Check out this awesome crinkle in the body fender panel, does this look positively improved and upgraded? Looks like a bad fiberglass job. Yes I agree they made mistakes with this slow rolling bs, it’s very unfortunate. Check out what’s happening with the Bronco roll out. These things take time and we are in a world of “I want it now” shipping instant by Amazon.

I do wish that the Tundra had the new Land Cruiser interior design. I need to see better photos of the new Tundra to make a call on the new interior looks. Perhaps the Pro gets a better interior???, all I know is that I still get smiles, nods and comments from people looking at my 1st gen with 300k miles. Not quite sure a 20 year old Silverado has the same attraction or following out there not even going to mention trouble free for 22 years?

The wife's 2017 Suburban has been flawless over 4 years and 60k miles. I do oil changes every 7,500 miles and we just replaced the tires on it at 55k miles. We have the 5.3L with the cylinder deactivation paired with the 6 speed. Lifetime average is 19.8mpg. We see 24mpg on flat highways. We love it

I would jump over to the Silverado if it wasn't for the 2019+ lifter/valve spring issue. Seems like the 2021s are still randomly seeing failures. There's a 2021 Trail Boss with the 6.2L 10 speed sitting on the local lot for $55k right now. It's tempting. We've outgrown my 2018 Tacoma.
