    Hello Tundraheads!
I have a 2018 Tundra with 40,000 miles on it. I bought it brand new. My last oil change showed it to be 1/2 quart low in oil. I have noticed the exhaust leaving black residue on the body, which is white, by the exhaust pipe for the past 3-5,000 miles. And, the exhaust does smell a little oily.
What could be causing the engine to burn oil already? So young for this. No check engine light or any messages come up on the dash. I guess this would be covered under my 60,000 mile powertrain warranty, right?
I'm calling the dealership tomorrow, but I'd like any insight that other consumers can lend me.
    Thank you!

You need to carefully test oil consumption.

    Park on totally flat surface.

    let sit for 10 minutes.
    Pull and check dipstick.
Fill oil up to upper dimple/bump.

    drive normally for a week.

check oil level again on flat surface with 10 min drain down.

measure amount of oil needed to get back up to original fill point.

Ideally, park in same place and check after a certain time lapse such a three minutes. Different intervals would deliver different results, so to do it correctly time would be critical.

Could be a bad valve seal or similar. Possible that a head gasket is defective.

I typically have to add about a half a quart per 5000 miles.Been that way since new. Actually I think the consumption has gone down as my motor is more broken in now. I’m at 38K

My 2020 does not have any oil burning issues. However, a co-worker with a 2019 consumes a little bit of oil.

    Tastefully enhanced...
No oil burn on my oil burner...70k miles of which 57k have been boosted...start learning about lemon laws...if it bothers you enough, might be worth some reading up...oil is cheap IMHO and this is a mechanical beast...oil consumption can be a bi-product...

I had the same issue with 2 previous vehicles, they were not trucks but the dealer nor another mechanic could find any leaks or anything wrong. I did try a few oils and one did cut down the oil consumption. Instead of burning a quart every 2-3 months, it was burning maybe 1/4 to 1/5 of a quart every 2-3 months. That was an improvement. Some engines just burn up oil, would get it checked out though.

If you want to try the oil, you can look it up here (it's up to you)
