Also, don't forget to ask if it has a locking diff, a limited slip diff, or can't tell the diff.

If it's exclusive it'll be the Raptor. Other than the snafu a year ago Ford has had them get trucks whenever they want basically.

If they're just saying exclusive to try to bring in viewers than it makes the Tundra possible, but still a very low chance I'd say

You had similar projections, good on you. I like seeing an experienced engineer try to go through what may happen. So far Chao has been spot on and brought much needed clarity to the uninformed.

I can see you position on the points you address, and for a lot of buyers of the 4Runner you are probably right. I still maintain that Toyota should have offered an optional engine and transmission in the 5th Gen 4Runner for those who wanted more power. The 1UR-FE would have been an easy solution.

For those pointing out that offering the same V8 in a 4Runner as the Lexus GX460 may have hurt GX460 sales I agree. Same for the Land Cruiser possibly cutting into LX570 sales. My counter to that is that Toyota/Lexus didn’t do enough to differentiate the Lexus offerings. If Lexus is supposed to be the best Toyota can offer, then the GX and LX should have engines and other technology that reflect that elite status. The GX should have been rolling around with a 4.6L V8 that at a minimum made 360hp and 380lb-ft and used direct injection. The LX should have used a 5.7L with direct injection and been well into the 400+HP range with around 450lb-ft, if not more.

It's very unlikely that Toyota would let a 3rd party reviewer reveal a new very long-awaited new-design truck before the company makes a debut itself. I believe that it would be that week of 19th as the Instagram picture of the phone displayed in the truck it to be and it's on par with Detroit Auto Show /Motor Bella at M1 Concourse, Pontiac, MI schedule. :fingerscrossed:

Whats reveal mean, like never seen before? Or would a review on the maverick, santa cruz, tundra be considered a reveal if they get 1 and can talk about specs/driving characteristics.

i mean really, why would toyota reveal the tundra at detroit auto show when they build the tundra in San Antonio, Texas?

thats like saying lets reveal the new ford F150 in florida instead of detroit.

Makes me wonder if the 9th is the day.

All the press is in town for the 2022 Tundra event now. They’re driving the prototypes, they’re looking at all the engine and transmission cut away displays, they’re taking pictures of the new frame, they’re doing interviews.

Keeping a lid on that for essentially another 2 weeks is going to be tough. Maybe Toyota does so journalist’s have time to edit their articles, and videos for the 19th.

If Chicago Auto Show hadn't been moved I bet that's where the Tundra would have been revealed. That's where Toyota does most of their big reveals. Texas State Fair usually has some truck reveals from the other guys so the Tundra could get overshadowed if Ford brought out a new HD theoretically.

I'm buying a 2022. I think I'm actually the first name on my dealer list. I'm not thrilled about buying the first year, but it is what it is. I'm 37, been dreaming of buying a truck since I was an elementary school aged kid, but the timing was never right. I saved up, and I think I'm paying cash. I think I've been reading a lot of the info that came from this forum but never joined. I wanted one of the GMs with 3.0 Diesel, but after reading of some of the problems they're having, I passed. I liked the Fords, but something just didn't feel right. I've sworn off Chrysler products forever.

Right now, I'm kind of underwhelmed by those leaked photos of the red tundras. I made the decision this was what I wanted when I heard it's the same platform as the Land Cruiser and the same engine as the LS. It seemed like a no brainer at the time. Put that package in conservative Toyota styling, and it should be a decent truck. I don't understand the hoop. I was hoping for something understated and boring, but this is just odd looking. I almost feel like Toyota just overthought it. I don't mind a big grill. I figured it was necessary for cooling and intake of the turbos, but these photos have me second guessing my decision. My problem now is I need a truck in January. If I want the toyota, I'm probably going to have to order it without seeing it in person.

Never drove a 4.6l but I'm with simpleengineer about the 4.7l V8 in the 4Runner. Tows strong because it came from the factory with a ClassIV hitch, aux trans cooler, 130A alternator, Group 27 battery. Toyota did a fine job cramming the 4.7l into the teeny 4Runner.

And that V8 roar. Got 17mpg on my last tank, towing YMMV. I've seen from 8mpg to 12mpg on a tank on the Colorado Plateau hauling a 4k lb trailer on I70.

Well, it's designed in Ann Arbor Michigan. The first hint of a new Tundra was photographed at Ann Arbour and historically Chicago auto show is where tundras get a big reveal however since CAS is cancelled so I am going with the next option there. But hey you could be right Toyota might change up their venues. That video that Kirk Kreifels posted about the GR Corolla strongly suggests that he might get to see the Tundra there however doesn't mention anything for public view. These are the same tactics Toyota is employing from the Sienna reveal. With that said all of these automotive reviewers might have an embargo / and enough head start to be as creative and informative as possible for the reveal day. :notsure:

I narrowed it down to the new Tunny front vs rear war. I'm really liking the new front now that I've seen the dorky looking rear end....

That's true. Even Gen3ers will be at war with each other over the red interior, pano roof, big screen, etc

While they weren't wrong, they did fail to acknowledge that Toyota secured a bunch of these, and are slowing production on every other model, but the forecasted number of 2022 Tundra's was not affected.

Hell.....these 2022 threads are no different than all the various Tundra forums leading up to the 07 reveal. Was madness except we do know in hindsight the 07 did wake up the big 3 back then to some extent. Not sure yet about this go around.....

There are two different trucks there. One is a DC the other is a CM. The DC got normal handles this time around, so you can't use that to identify them.

With the chipped paint in my wheel wells... I wish I had plastic there. Maybe that doesn't matter to a pavement princess mall crawler, but it's a nice feature for those of us that drive dirt/gravel and know how to put a protectant on black plastic.

Man I wish it was going to be the Tundra. But I think GM is releasing the “refreshed” Silverado on the 9th.
