I was polishing my girl and found this fuckery. Is it covered under warranty?

Depending on your truck's mileage I would think.

I had similar thing on my old Audi, it did start to flake after i used polish on damaged clear coat. Or maybe your polish compound is too harsh for your trucks paint. Which brand are you using?

Is it just on that one spot in the pic? Looks like clear coat etching, from bird crap that sat on to long, or another "pollutant". Etching is clear coat damage regardless.

I have the same on front driver side hood and get my car detailed once a year at a reputable body shop. Ugh, will I need to have my entire hood refinished and repainted? Ugh

looks like it. I have the same on my 2018 camry. I'm the only one washing my car and bird poop doesn't take long to etch the clear coat. few days.

What do mean by car detailed? If every year they are using abrasive products to remove swirl marks and contamination they that might be why. The clear coat isn’t that thick and abrasives take a toll on the clear. And a reputable body shop doesn’t mean a reputable car detailer.

I agree and most likely will detail myself moving forward with no buffing for sure.

As a self proclaimed "expert" =) home detailer, I don't polish unless I absolutely must to get rid of a defect. For example, compounding/removing clearcoat over 14"x14" to repair a one inch scratch may not be ideal. Ask me how I learned that the hard way through the years of OCD. Lol

With that said, I've washed my truck once a month for the last 30 months and hardly even have a swirl. I agree, the clearcoat is very thin on these trucks.

To the OP, that definitely is failing clearcoat. Seems too early even at 76k miles to look like that.

I have similar cracks on my 2005 350z on the roof but that's due to overpolishing in my younger years and not knowing better. But I did't notice it until the past few years when I got into detailing more seriously but the difference is that it's a 16 year old car and yours is newer.

I have a 2017 so Toyota will not assist me with the clear coat issue since I am out of warranty. So I am pulling the trigger after getting 4 different independent shop estimates. It will cost me $430 out the door with a new paint job to the hood, since they have to repaint and apply new clear coat. It’s worth it to me on a 4 year old truck that’s paid off now.
