Continuation from 7433. We had our electrical inspection last Monday, where we covered all of the options, but mainly the electrical. Found a few minor framing details, that would be easily corrected. We did notice they added a header above the two sliding windows. In further discussion, we decided to add additional support wood on that window and two others on the side to facilitate future curtain rods. Also the placement of the hand bar in the master shower and bath 2. We moved the placement of a floor electrical outlet. They did add electrical to the storage, and it looks like they will let it remain. Good. We noticed the siding was stacked outside and caulking inside. On Tuesday our future neighbor sent a photo showing them starting the siding. We had to drive up past the build on Friday for other business, and stopped at the house. The guys said they would be done with the siding. Also the septic system was delivered and installed since the last post. Next is sheet rock after the inspections are done at this point.

Went to visit my son up in WA state, and got worked like a rented mule. Hung a flag over the garage door, built a work bench, hung paddle boards from the garage wall, installed a combo light switch receptacle in a utility closet, replace the lights in the garage with the flat panel led's Costco sells and laid some horse mats in part of the garage for a home gym. Tomorrow over to my other son's house to build a fence in the back yard.93BC4090-DF03-43AF-898E-E58E9FE6C8D6.jpg4D567BDC-9C44-4F85-B53F-35E0D43FAC32.jpg37A45894-AB75-4D07-9D6E-12050B49BAC2.jpg

I completed a solar project in early spring this year. It’s a 7kw system with a 16kwh battery. We are oversized by about 20% currently compared to our usage but we built in some flexibility for growth. We’ve since learned we can “almost” get through an entire night on battery alone with the A/C during peak summer temps. Sun rises and the battery is charged again by 10 A.M. The remainder of the day is sending back to the grid for the most part. While the tax incentives still apply in part, the primary driver for me was energy independence. With all the uncertainty in the world with weather, fluctuating energy prices and the increased practice of rolling black outs in the west(I haven’t experienced this personally but the ideology is spreading eastward) the peace of mind is well worth it to me. In the last 6 months my electric bill has been only the utility connection fee.

I like the system so much I’m considering adding additional panels and a second battery, but I’ll wait another 6 months to make that decision. The Mrs. and I believe we are in our forever home and that factors in to the decision as well. I’ve always wanted to do solar but in this case it really just made sense for us.

Probably going to stop at a lumber yard in Portland and pick up 30 or 40 2X4X8's for a project I a working on at home. 2X4X8's we almost $9 when we left San Diego. They were around $2.89 at the Home Depot in Portland. Plus no Sales Tax and a Military discount...

If you see a white tundra loaded down with 2X4's headed south on the 5....

I am In The process of moving in a couple months. Met my new neighbor who installs solar panels, so I might do it also if the numbers work out. The idea of energy independence sounds good. I will have propane but will add a heat pump for reducing costs. With solar and propane I could go a long time.

You could hang a tennis ball from a string that will hit her windshield or rear window at desired park spot. $1

    Tried that years ago.
She wouldn't stop when she hit the ball.
She has no choice but to stop now.

Besides that I didn't like the ball hanging in the middle of the garage when I'm working out there.
Money really isn't an issue for me, but thanks..

Apparently a 3" ball is more in the way than a 6' rubber stop at the feet , in front of the work bench. Lol

Finally had the roof replaced on the old farm house before winter, before my grandfather passed away he told me to always keep a good roof on the house and barn and that they would last forever.

@PLC721 as someone who is currently dealing with a lack of step flashing on parts of my roof, I appreciate how they added that flashing around the chimney. Also, that's a lot more green than I was expecting for Arizona terrain. Is that farm in another state?

    It's her car, not mine.
She buys and pays for what she wants.

The stop works fine, it isn't in my way..
Not sure why any of you care so much about it..
Hope you can find something better to do with your time..

I do one big project a year, and it's usually one that the better half has lobbied for. This year it was mine; tore out the old workspace, replaced the garage doors and fully insulated.

Formed the concrete countertop in the garage. A few adjustments to the mesh and it’s ready for concrete.

Check the build link in my signature.
Spent the day organizing and cleaning the basement storage and workshop. Not done yet, be we got through a lot. Moved five racks of shelving, loaded a ton of shit into the truck for the recycle/waste center, and chilled at least 30 gallons of old paint that we’ve held onto but no longer have anywhere in the house…

I’ve been wanting to do my three car garage project for years now. I moved everything out of the garage to give my epoxy flooring guys room to grind my floor and install an epoxy flake covered floor. I found a lot of unused space under my stairs and made room for my refrigerator to go under the stair landing.

Since my ceilings are so high I got a scissor lift to make painting and doing the electrical work safer. All of the walls and ceiling were all originally painted a flat beige color.

Here’s my garage after painting the ceilings white , painting the walls gray and installing the high bay led light.

Here is a little project I did in a day and half for a client of mine last week. I installed some old reclaimed long leaf pine and oak boards on their master bedroom coffered ceiling. I used 2”, 5, 6” and 8” wide boards. They were very happy!

I painted the back of the ceiling a dark brown first. I snapped chalk lines for my ceiling rafters. I did this whole install by myself which wasn’t to bad but it took a lot of back and forth walking outside for all my cuts.

I had to fix our pantry door - the screws stripped out of the frame. Bob Villa University to the rescue. I drilled out the holes, glued some 1 inch dowel rods in and then re-screwed.

I've also been spending the last two weekends trimming trees.
