this one is called the “gulo gulo”, made by HFB. It’s rare that they use Damascus on a blade with g10 handles but this one paired really well IMO

I agree that they did a beautiful job matching the handle to the pattern. It’s something I frequently try to do. I have found and used a Damascus pattern micarta on a few.

    Another great review for, Ray...

He does outstanding work and will listen to your needs and wants when making custom pieces.

A custom collaboration Ray made for my specific needs and style preferences.

I finished with this little 8” traditional paring knife this morning. 204 layers of diagonal ladder pattern Damascus with tropical hardwood handle. No frills. On the way to a lady in Colorado now…

Well, if you were to look back at the dates I posted knives you might see a long lag, lol.
I accumulated a couple Damascus billets and have now been working on 6 knives at the same time. The Bowie was first. This one, and now the other 4 (2 of which I have heat treated)

    Ok, I need this.
A set would be appropriate, but one would be better, you know, so dinner guest are jealous.

I have learned my lesson about making matched sets, lol. In contrast with mass production, hand crafting duplicates is a pain in the nose! When you do a ‘one off’ it doesn’t have to match anything.

Now I feel both special and a bit pretentious.

I can see it now… you leave a pile of half-dull steak knives on the counter for your guests to use, and then as you sit at the table, you open an ornately carved box with velvet lining and pull out your steak knife.

The one on the right came in today. Love the scout knife. This one is Koa wood with hollow brass pins.

Feeling a little nostalgic today I pulled out the knives to go through the memories. Just about every knife in my collection has a story; I buy knives to remember events - anything from nice vacations to funerals. A few were gifts or just random purchases, but even those have memories tied to them.

Classy and iconic. I love that knife. If Wikipedia had a picture of a folder, the 940 would be it.
