In recent events, my wife just approved the purchase of 35s for the Tundra....but not until December.
I now have until December to get the chassis/suspension overhaul completed, buy gears F & R, and get them installed.
Fittin' ta start 2022 like a boss.

    Why 4.88’s over 4.56’s?

What about 33s, rear bumper with swing out, sliders, and a camper shell with rack; 90% of my driving is city?

That’s what I’ve heard for the 4speed, wondering if it’s the same for the 5.

It'll be fine. Numerically 4.3's match with 33's but the additional rotational mass (weight) make 4.56's better imo.

Same. O/D gearing is almost identical.

    .705 (a340) vs .716 (a750)

Because I want 35s and I don’t like flooring it to accelerate.
I realize the jump from stock tires to 35s would indicate 4.56…but that doesn’t take into account the extra weight of the tires let alone any armor.

Welp got two new tires and supplies for a trip that was supposed to start this weekend. Got home and caught a strong whiff of gear oil. Crawled underneath to see what's going on and it looks like the front output seal blew. Hopefully I can get the part and tackle it tomorrow - would have sucked had I not caught it.

Do you do Yuma, Havasu, or bullhead?
Weve got the salt river here which is super popular for tubing, I’m a water rat and I’ve never been, I feel kinda ashamed, but it’s also Phoenix so I don’t feel to bad in the end

With this group, we go south of the 10/ Blythe maybe 15 miles. There's usually 3-4 different boats we tie off to on floats or take to sand bars and beaches. I prefer up river towards Bullhead because it's nicer.

I want to replace the battery in the truck for peace of mind since I don't know how old it is and the PO didn't remove the month and year knock-out tabs. So, I stopped into the local Big O Tire because it opens early and they carry Interstate brand. They didn't have the MTP-24F that's the standard 750CCA replacement for our trucks. I call 7 other Interstate battery sellers within a 7 mile radius and none of them have it either (and not one of them even offered to try to get it and make the sale! ). WTF? I went back into the Big O and they'll have it for me later this afternoon.

If you can get a group 31 battery, it's the same width and height, just longer. Holds 33% more electrons too

I thing the battery pan will have to be cut in the middle, spread out a few inches, then both halves bolted back down and maybe a little reinforcement.

When you guys get your new batteries in situ, post a pic of any related shenanigans.
I'm also running a battery of unknown vintage and am always interested in options.

I can't recall which batter I have now, I had to drop a small board of plywood to lift it a bit so the hold-down would work right, like a 3/8ths shim.

Typically I would opt for a larger, more powerful battery but the group 31 is overkill in this case.

im in the boat of a 27F AGM being more than enough for 95% of the tundra owners

and if you did need more, i would just go with a second battery remote mounted somewhere where the extra weight wont cause cracking

Agreed. No plans for extra lighting, audio upgrades or any other energy-consuming upgrades. I rarely even listen to the radio in any vehicle anymore. It's sufficient for the foreseeable future.

You're all not wrong. Group 31 is way overkill, agreed. Width-wise, though, tons o space. Yes it's heavier but if doing a suspension anyway and maybe a front steel bumper and sliders, well, you have to accept some weight. This isn't a racecar.

Winch, compressor, 1000w of amplifiers, starter, halogen lighting (100w bulbs) and towing all will have some load. A 27 would be plenty, that's totally true. But if a 31 fits properly height-wise compared to a 27 then is there a big reason to go 27 over 31? Especially if doing a new 150 amp alternator?

This entire vehicle is overkill as is my Tacoma, my 2013 Prius served me just fine and at 40k miles in 7 years it was nearly flawless in every possible way. I gave my sis one hell of a deal at $4k for it and she made me suffer through hours of paranoia that I was pulling a fast one on her.

This isn't about rational means of deploying capital. I thought any FGT owner accepted that, right?

I would consider a second battery but the costs of 2 batteries and the extra complexity add significant headache. Also, while my Tacoma has a good spot for one, my Tundra really doesn't. Since I have plans to take the Taco to EV in 10-20 years, I kind of don't really care about batteries right now. It's just a child hauler around town. It would be fine as 2wd really. I won't do anything remotely fun with it. Maybe I'll get to park on gravel at the local race once a year.

The issue with weight is the location of the battery. Stock location if you start off-roading the vehicle and have the 31, will eventually lead to the sheet metal cracking due to the extra fatigue on the metal with all that weight

The other option is relocate the main battery and open up a lot of space for a compressor/storage
