Opinions needed...

I had a 2021 Limited ordered, but I found out tonight that it is highly unlikely that my dealer will get the allocation. He can guarantee a 1794 for about $5k more than the Limited. Should I pull the trigger on the 1794 or just wait on the 2022 models to drop?

This is my first Tundra, so I appreciate any advice from you guys.

 

My only concern about buying a totally redesigned First run….BUGS!
Not saying it’s going to be a bad but keep in mind the changes that are coming. You know your finances and needs…Good Luck on what ever you decide.

 

Full specs for the 2022s is unknown yet so its V8 vs a TTV6 as far as we know.

Depends on how you intend to use the truck and how many modifications you intend to install on your truck. The newer model wont be fully supported with a robust aftermarket for a while.

As far as concerns regarding the 1st year run, from what we know the engine and transmission have been in Lexus vehicles for at least two years. Its not likely the 1st year run will be plagued by issues as seen with other manufacturers. I don't see it as high of a risk with the new Tundra.

 

Appreciate that advice. I'm thinking that I'll go with the 1794, despite the fact that "luxury" trucks sort of goes against what i look for in a truck. Who knows what timeline we are looking at with the 2022's. I never really looked into the diffs between limited and 1794's; I'm not certain there's $5k worth of upgrades there.

 

What are you looking at price wise for the 1794? I ask because I personally would have a hard time paying 55+ for a truck you could have bought a year ago for 47. If that’s the case and its me, I’d wait and get the redesign. I like my 17 Limited but it’s outdated and I’m ready for what looks to be a truck with better suspension, more power and updated features.

No way I’d pay close to 60 thousand for an outdated 1794. Also, what’s this “TOYOGUARD” for 700 dollars? That place is ripping you off with some exterior and interior sealant and trying to make it look like the oil changes are part of that package. Shady IMO.
Again, I believe it would serve you well waiting but if you can’t I’m sure you’ll be happy with this truck. Just make sure you negotiate with these guys. It seems they are already trying to make every penny they can off you.

My concerns about the TTV6 would be how hard those turbos would be working if towing. I understand big diesels do it all day long but did Toyota do this to achieve higher MPG when the truck is used as a daily driver? Another concern would be required octane level. I have a 124 Abarth that requires 91 minimum and the cost does add up.

Most days I only need a truck to haul myself and a lunchbox to work I tow occasionally, but never anything too heavy.

I don't love the idea of a more complex design, but I'm going to wait it out and get a 22 when they come out. They've been testing the prototypes for quite some time now, so hopefully alot of the bugs are worked out.

 

I would tell the dealer to come down 3k and buy the 21 1794. 2022's will be overpriced garbage.
