What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Are you still happy with this tool? I see there are 2 available. Which kit did you buy? Since I bleed my brakes every week I might as well invest in a decent tool.

 

Yeah, when I used it, I bought it out of frustration of one man bleeding even with the fancy bleeder valves.
This made things sooooo much easier. I didn’t fill the bottle with brake fluid, I just filled the resi on the truck as full as possible and then added on their special cap.
I will probably do a fluid swap on the 4runner at some point soon and that’s also why I bought it.

 

What was aggravating about using speed bleeders for a one man bleed? (assuming these are your fancy bleeder valves)

I was meaning to buy some myself next time round.

 

They didn’t seem to work as advertised. Or it was my first time and frustration got the best of me

 

Did you get the Russell speed bleeders or something else? I haven't heard anything bad about those ones but that was years ago.

That would do it. Glad the alternative worked out.

 

I'd do a full HID retrofit. You can use budget projectors but I skimped on the ballast and bulb and ended up replacing it all with better quality parts. Acme super H1 are like $60, an the rest of the kit is $150. All of the major supplier are having a 15% off sale right now. If you can spring for the better projectors, I would. I've done morimoto and acme super and the morimoto was better.

I just ordered the full morimoto D2S kit for my commuter car.

I was very hesitant with my fist retrofit, but it was actually very easy and I wished I had done it years before.

This! I tried lots of bulbs in the stock buckets and no matter what, the light output was pretty weak. I didn't bother with LED because I didn't want to mess with resistors or have other gremlins to chase down, also back then LED wasn't what it is today to be fair.

I saw some conversion kits on friends cars and the cheap ones were hit or miss. So I went with the "cheaper of the mid range". Morimoto 55w ballasts, Morimoto ignitor, Morimoto D2S bulbs and projectors from The Retrofit Source. At the time my full kit was right under $300. I've been running it happily since maybe 2013.

Doing the retrofit was my first time around. The biggest "fear" was getting the butyl goop on my lenses, I was super careful not to do that. Other than that it was pretty easy.

There are other products these days that have proved reliable. I would avoid buying from eBay or Amazon on this, go to a real retailer for peace of mind. They aren't all that expensive. Definitely don't skimp on the electronics, but if you can swing it I wouldn't skimp on anything. To me the risk of disappointment isn't worth the savings on bad projectors or doing the headlight twice.

If full blown retrofits aren’t your thing, check out these mini projectors that fit into an H4 socket. This is my first dip into projectors and I’m completely blown away by how bad ass these are.

They’re basically plug and play. All you need to do is remove the reflector with some needle nose. Be forewarned that unless you bake the lens and pull it out through the front, you’re going to destroy it beyond repair by coming out the bulb hole.

 

If you want to save a couple bucks buy the

$66 power probe ba10 small adapter for toyota

power probe ba10 adapter and make your own with a $4-5 1 gallon sprayer, an ebay psi gauge and hose/fittings from the hardware store. Also won't need tire air, just pump it up.

Got my OME 2885s today. Was a bit nervous cause it looks like it got hulk smashed and then eaten and shit out by a T-Rex but the coils actually don’t have any scratches on them and fared well. Probably install next week or two. Then it’s on to the rear leafs

Nice! Those will see far worse conditions once installed than ol' UPS can ever throw at em.

 

Looks like our UPS carriers might be related; 1/2 my stuff arrives like that. They also didnt double box it like they should.

 

Gave the V6 an 80 mile workout to stretch its legs on the commute to work. Blue devil rad flush in hand now.

No, I went to Clarksville Tennessee first, and then drove up to Hopkinsville Ky. I'll drive another 52 miles back home in the AM when I'm off work

 

Prior to dropping my truck off, there was a slight squeal sound, like a worn out belt. They replaced my timing belt and serpentine belt. Now, no more squeal. Truck sounds great.

 

Many more smiles per gallon to come!

 

Not so sure...my trucks a pavement princess for the most part. I don't NOT go off-road but I don't GO off-road either unless I need to. Also, I just realized I will have owned it for 4 years this December and I've only thrown 18,000miles on her....crazy

 

Maybe not as bad, but here's what FedEx dropped off today. Driver tried to tell me, "Naw, it's just the box messed up" after they sat on it at the warehouse for 3 days, making it 4 days overdue. Let's just say the coffee machine inside didn't fare as well as your springs.

But yeah. You can't ship Alu radiators. Shocked it's not V-shaped. I found this out the hard way about 15 years ago. Sounds like @Tundra2 can probably speak to it too.

 

Yes. When I was doing the job on my V6, I had three radiators sent to my house via FedEx, UPS, and even paid for USPS to deliver. All three were FUBAR. I sent all three back for 100% refund. I finally had a radiator shipped to a store for pickup which was in pristine condition.

Before I paid for the radiator, I spoke with the dude behind the counter. I told him my sob story, and asked if I could open the box (which was damaged) before I paid for the radiator. He agreed. I opened the box, and pulled the whole radiator out. It was pristine. I happily forked over the money, and then went to work to make more money.

I just picked up today from advanced auto parts some blue devil rad flush. I can't find any parts store near me that will ship a radiator to a store and let me come pick it up.

My initial instinct was that was because of the rona, but after picking up small items I guess it's a damage concern for them also. Sucks to be us.

 

FedEx can eat a dick. I had one of their stores package some stuff for me to ship home on a vacation. Told them I didn't care if I had to use more than one box. Dude says no it'll be fine...

Watch it travel the country for 2 weeks and end up at the original store. Then it shows up 4 days later with one thing in pieces and 2 other items missing.

File a claim and they deny it for improper packaging, even though I provided them with the receipt from their store. Finally after 2 months they send a check for 3/4 the value. I'm still pissed about it but at that point I was tired of fighting with them.

BUT they are now $370+! (Sorry but questions) How long have you had yours in? Have you been out in the middle of nowhere with your projectors? How far do they project? How far is your visibility?

 

New lower control arms have arrived. Man these are a lot beefier then they appear installed.


Also got new bearings for the Kings.

FYI if you torque your shocks before putting weight on them, you’ll mess up the bearings in no time like I did.

This weekend is going to be fun. Lower control arms, new bearings for the coilovers AND Headers. I’m fairly well prepared tho… wish me luck
