well, i wanted a louder horn cause the oem ones sounded quiet, even with the covers removed....

i bought these which are branded Anxingo. a quality sounding brand for sure, i know. but they had good reviews.

Electric Car Horn 12V Universal Vehicle Horn High Tone and Low Tone Metal Twin Horn Kit with Bracket - Add Safety to Drive with 118db(A) of Sound

i was kind of excited in a funny way... it was a silly endeavor, but i was expecting something mildly louder than stock, and expected some very strong eye rolls from the GF who finds my truck mods to be endearing, but generally unnecessary.

instead, i wired them up, hit the horn, and we both laughed. they seemed like the horn that would be on a backhoe that signaled to the dump truck that they were full. cheap, tinny, gets the job done. however... standing in front of the truck they seemed loud...

well, once we were in the truck, and i tested them out while driving around, it was even more disappointing. you could barely hear them from the cab. all in all it was only a waste of $18... and they will be going on my utility sidexside for laughs... but im more bummed that i wasted my time cutting the factory wires, now just to splice them back together. hoping this will help others avoid wasting their time and money. im going back to stock asap. i think the stock horns just sound quiet from the cab.

The price is not that high, I rather get a Hella or PIAA horn to replace the stick ones.

i cant say for sure, but it sure makes sense that they would be louder, and i dont know how they wouldnt be. any obstruction between a sound source and your ear will cause it to be quieter.

as for keeping water out... most vehicles ive seen with similar style horns dont have guards like those. but yeah, im sure there is a chance that toyota put them there because some sort of test was showing water getting in there. if mine ever fail, ill spring for something else.

I have a different opinion than yours. I have these installed and I do agree they are tinny, but also high pitched and louder than stock. I have no regrets. Just my 2 cents. I also have a custom diamond mesh grille which is more open than stock. So, that could be why the horns sound louder to me than you.

just because something looks like the name brand, does not mean its the same quality as the name brand. there are reviews for the knock off that specifically say they dont compare to hella.

im glad it worked out for you. mine are garbage.

On the same token, name brands are often inexpensive makes with a name brand stamped on it. The mind is a funny thing that can assume something is of higher quality just because a name is on it. Too bad yours didn't work well.

If you wanted them to be louder in the cab, why didn’t you mount them inside?

    im not assuming anything.

are some brand name items literally a name slapped on the same garbage? sure. but you cant just assume that is the case here, just like i cant assume it isnt. all i know is i received junk. its possible that there is nothing similar between the 2 brands other than looks. its also completely possible that they are the same, but hella puts the horns through more rigorous qc to make sure less garbage gets through. they also put more money into CS. i actually received these as a gift, so returning via Amazon will be difficult. with hella, its much more likely that i could have them replaced directly. not sure who to reach out to at Anxingo HQ, lol. not that id get anything other than a reply about them being "much sorry".

Actually, I'm not making an assumption either. The sound of the knock-offs I installed is the exact same of the sound clip on the Amazon page for the Hella branded horn.

videos mean absolutely nothing. recording devices sound correct. there is absolutely no way to be sure they are equal in volume/pitch unless you compare them side by side, or take readings on both with an expensive measuring device.

not to mention, video doesnt cover quality, nor does it cover consistency. my horns are garbage. yours worked. congrats on saving $23. but thats where it should have ended. making a baseless claim that they are the same is just that. baseless. i doubt id be in this situation if i bought/asked for/recieved the name brand. and if i was in the situation, it would be easy to get a replacement. im over this conversation.

And your OPINION is baseless since you haven't done a side by side comparison with the Hella horns either. If you can't handle a debate, don't post BS opinion on a forum.

Junkyard Caddy horns FTW. I forgot to cut them off my old truck before I sold it. I think I have another set though somewhere. One day I'll find them lol.

I still have one of the large trumpet horns from a '67 Cadillac I owned long time ago. It only had three horns. Two were the regular high/low note horns and the third one which is the I kept before I sold it. I've had that horn in at least two different cars. Very distinct sounding and loud when added to the stock horns.

BTW, I think I use my middle finger more than a horn. :D
